I think you could argue that a prep school moving in could be a good thing for plans that had been in the works. That was an existing prep school so it did not take any of the funding or people who were kicking about a new prep school idea. Having one in town actually helps because now you have two for the price of one when other prep schools travel to town. Most areas in the country that have a strong prep presence benefit from having multiple schools in close proximity. You do not want a prep school to be on an island where travel to play them is expensive. Now you can play both when you come to Louisville. Besides, the prep school coming into town or a new one being formed are not going to be fighting over Louisville kids. To be successful there may be as few a only a couple kids from Louisville or KY on their roster. THe roster will be full of out of state kids with the hopes of those kids being Top 50 kids in the country.

One lesson is that the more schools you go to in high school, the harder it is to get NCAA certified. David was at one school for 2.5 years and then touched 3 different schools in 1.5 years. The more schools, the more difficult it gets with getting through the Clearinghouse and then JUCO becomes the only option left. He will be playing D1 ball when he finishes up there. Also choose your prep schools carefully if you go that route, find one that has had some longevity.

Told tonight the former HC is taking the AD position at the West End Boys School in Louisville which is a private boarding school for kids up to the 8th grade. Not sure if they plan to expand or not, but that is the reason he left Seneca is what I was told.

I agree he is a wing, but from what I saw of several games the team played a point and a center with 3 wings. It is true Romeo is a dominant wing player who has earned his stripes so to speak. The rest of the team has some good players that need to earn their playing time with their production and ability to make others better. I don't feel he should take a backseat to anyone, but guys like Faulkner and Kunkel would not be taking backseats to him either. The coach should be playing the wings who rebound, defend and are productive offensively.

I am going to suggest that many kids who have: A) played on their HS team or even been on an AAU team where they are no question "The Man" status and... B) where they are rarely taken out of a game they sometimes have a difficult transition to being on a team with several if not the entire team of players who equally are as talented or perhaps even better. That is just not Allen, but many kids. It is a situation that I believe is more prevalent here in KY where the D1 talent depth on many teams in HS ball is very scarce. So the kids who have that all of a sudden never adjust to fitting in with a team chock full of those same type guys. Getting on a solid circuit team that offers that opportunity to find a way to fit in to be a key piece of the team is a challenge that some prefer to not take so they look for the situation where they can be that dominant player on a team. Nothing wrong with either approach, but sooner or later you reach a level of basketball that you simply are not going to be the only great player on a team unless you are a "Lebron" type talent. To prepare for college I like to see kids learn to play in various roles and fight for minutes as well as make the coach keep you on the floor. It gets kids out of their comfort zone and helps them with the mental challenges they will face in their future.

CJ is a sharpshooter from 3 point land. To hit over 50% of your three point shots after the first two weekends in the Adidas Gold division in front of college coaches will serve him well. Despite Indy Elite only winning one game in each session, CJ will be just fine hitting 3's at a clip like that. I feel he projects as a really good shooting guard at the next level and it will be interesting to see where he chooses to further his career. The Louisville Magic 17 U program represented KY very well as they were one of four teams in the 50+ Gold division competition that went undefeated at 8-0 over both weekends.

I think he is a great fit, he could slide right in and replace Lavone Holland delivering a very similar value. I am just a big Trevon fan and it would not surprise me if he gets some Power 5 conference offers.

NKU loves him, not sure if that is the best fit for him but they sure are high on him.

What all of those programs have is strong funding as well. Trust me....the amount of expenses a family pays for their son to play all over the country and in many cases attend with him is significant. Many well funded programs cover every dollar a player incurs and often helps the parents out as well. That is a big reason in addition to the other things you mention, but don't kid yourself that $$$ come into play as it relates to covering travel expenses. Few if any programs in KY come close to the funding of these out of state programs.

KY All Star staff needs to go back to selecting the team and not having a tryout. The tryout this year was essentially for show. Having kids who did not attend the tryout make the team doesn't make sense. Either go with a draft or go with a true tryout. There were some selections that are questionable given some of the players that were not selected. This event is not about putting the best players on the floor to get a chance to win, but I suspect Indiana selection may have the same issues.

He camped at Samford last year. Yes, this young man could really arrive this Spring. A true combo guard and probably a better 2 than 1 at this point. If he grew to 6'4" and added the strength mentioned he could be a Power 5 conference player and still may be anyway. Great kid as well.

Happy for Coop. He is a very hard working young player and I believe his best basketball is ahead of him. It was a rough senior season. I still feel he should have been able to play at the beginning given some of the other transfer immediate eligible situations with other kids.

The best rankings are the ones that are from those giving the $$$, not taking them. No matter what anyone says, when college coaches are handing out scholarships those rankings are the ones that matter. Those that take $$$ in and produce rankings may tell you coaches pay for their opinions or rankings, but very few hold much weight. Those rankings are more for the kids, parents, and fans. I always warn kids to not chase rankings, I have seen many who get caught up in lieu of just falling in love with the process of getting better.

Which or what All State team are you referring too? The Lexington Herald came out a bit ago. Is there another one which just came out that you are noting?

Not going to happen in 6th or 7th region very often either. On top of that in the 6th or 7th there is more depth of athletic players who may not be skilled offensively, but they are capable of playing defense if they have a coach putting emphasis on "D". It is a lot easier to score in some regions due to the players you are playing against. Not saying the best defenses are always in metro Louisville, but there are more individual players with a combination of length & quickness that make it more difficult to score against.

I believe he signed LOI in November. He will be a very good player for them as he can play the 3 with his outside shooting or he can play a stretch four as he rebounds well. Great player and a super nice young man who you are happy to see good things happen for him.

Wrong on Darius Garland, he is still expected to play on NIKE EYBL St. Louis Eagles 17U team. Rumor was out there, but to my knowledge that is all it ever was.

Doss beat Taylor County 94-41 (53 point loss) about a month ago. Ballard beat them good, but TC just does not have a team that would cause much concern with many of the 6th & 7th region better teams. To the credit of TC, they played the very best teams of the 6th & 7th this year...Trinity, Fern Creek, Doss, and now Ballard. The closest margin was a 26 point loss to Fern Creek at the Clem Haskins Invitational at Taylor County. The thing Ballard does best is the worst possible match up for Taylor County. Great season though after losing so much talent from the past couple of seasons.

So true and Ballard did the same to Trinity when Ray Spaulding was a senior with a starting lineup that all had D1 offers. It is odd they do that to each other. I have watched both teams and there is not any scenario that I can see Taylor County pulling this one out. It is a very bad match-up for Taylor County. The pressure from Ballard will really cause problems with a Taylor County team that when I saw them struggled with pressure. Great run by Taylor County to get to State once again, tough kids.

Us June, July (me), and early August guys are about the only one who just turned 5 before kindergarten starts and the other kids with birthdays in the other nine months turn 18 during their senior year of high school. So we are actually the untypical kids. Vast majority hit 18 in senior year and thus hit 15 in freshman year.

Those of you from Lexington, any front runner for this job at Tates Creek? From an outsider it looks to be a job that is difficult to win in recent years but maybe in the past had success. Shawnee comes to mind here in Jefferson County as a similar history and currently just cannot seem to be a winning program no matter who takes over.

Then you were either like me and had a birthday that fell after graduation day (summer birthday) or you entered kindergarten as a 4 year old. Those are the only two ways you can graduate at 17. The law of numbers apply here, most kids enter kindergarten at 5 and turn 18 their senior year of high school. Or you could have been so smart they moved you ahead a grade or skipped a grade.

In the world where kids enter kindergarten at the age of 5, that has them turning 15 in their freshman year of school, so that means Zion at one time reclassified during his school age years. That is not unlike many kids playing high school basketball, I bet the percentage would shock most of us and is close to 10% or more. With that in mind, his age does nothing to change the fact he is a true young phenom in this sport. I am glad we were able to have him part of KY HS basketball and wish him the best where ever his future takes him.

15 is typically a freshman and depending on when you turn 16 could be a normal sophomore age. I know a junior who was not held back or sent to school early and he played his entire junior season at 16. Typically freshmen turn 15 during the school year, sophomores turn 16, and juniors turn 17 if they have not been held back. If you connect the dots Zion made it out to TN through the AAU program,We All Can Go, who is based out of Nashville. NCAA rules for the recruiting tournaments require kids to live in the state of their AAU program or a border state(3 player limit). Several BG players also played for WACG and there are some family ties between BGHS and WACG so it was not unnatural he ended up at BGHS. Playing in the NIKE EYBL 17 year old league he was the talk of the league because nobody his age ever accomplished what he was able to do. He is beyond very good. Since WACG no longer has a spot in the 17U NIKE EYBL this year, it will be interesting to see where he ends up playing in the NIKE EYBL and how long he continues to be in BG. Regardless, he is very special and I am glad he had at least one season playing in KY HS basketball. It may be a long time before we see another like him that is so good so young.
