  1. It’s a long shot and a lot of pending factors and I’m not saying they can beat anyone but possibly be competitive with the Big Boys is Ballard. Talented with size but a long shot!
  2. X will have to find some offense and it may take time to adjust but there defense should be better this year and I look for X to give my Rocks a stiff challenge this year.
  3. I forgot to give the other kid on Boyle props upfront on there dline. I liked the Hatter kid also a lot, I believe that’s his name. That’s why Boyle can play straight up and not have to worry about bringing pressure with those 2 upfront.
  4. Coach Morton will have his hands full in this one but I expect it to be closer than some of the scores I read. Ballard is 300 plus on both sides of the ball and is one of the bigger teams you will see upfront. I’m going 21-7 Boyle. I believe the key to both teams will be how there Qb’s handle pressure and getting hit,Carr and Lanter from what I’ve seen in the past are not fast enough to escape pressure and scramble, both are pocket passers, they will have to step up in the pocket to throw and take the hit. This will be big boy football. This may not be a good game to be the quarterback in. I know Coach Morton and I would almost guarantee you Ballard will blitz from somewhere every play, which could bite them on giving up a big play. Boyle doesn’t have to Blitz because you got a D1 lineman in Kelly in the middle. I look for both defenses to be better than the offenses.
  5. I watched Boyle multiple times last year and was impressed with Roller and his instincts and he plays downhill. He has been over shadowed by Smith,Kelly, and Bartleson getting the press. I see on these forums D1 mentioned all the time. I coached a long time and worked a lot of camps including the Nike Opening this year in Ohio where I seen Kelly, Smith and Bartleson (Kelly and Smith were impressive) I feel Boyle has those 3 kids for sure and-also Roller who will play at the D1 level. It takes a special athlete to play at the D1 level (size, speed, strength, quick feet and good hips)and those 4 have it, and I have heard thru other Coaches,Smith seems to think the baseball star Hotchkiss has that potential to play at that level at receiver also. I think Boyle’s qb and multiple other players will also play at some level in college. Just an old coaches opinion. In closing Roller is the real deal at linebacker.
  6. The star system is very overrated and if you fail to attend an Rivals event it’s hard to ever get any stars but it also what’s lot of uninformed (media)people go by. I would give the star system about a C- on getting it right. I’ve been around a long time and the recruiting game these days is 95 percent players getting hyped up and measurables height, speed, weight, strength and not who can flat out just play the game with pads on. I’ll take a football guy (game film)over a Combine guy any day but college coaches won’t always agree with that.
  7. I seen Boyle several time last year but I know this year there knowing there starting 3 D1 kids on defense with Bartleson,Kelly,Smith and possibly the Hatter kid may end up being D1 along with multiple others that will play in college at some level. That's impressive for any team especially a 3A team, a coaching friend of mine said Chuck Smith stated the will be overall the fastest team he has ever coached. The defense should be outstanding working with the personnel he has.
  8. I have talked to coaches about the re classification across the board not specifically on Boyle but in general there are a lot of unknown factors from as far as Coaches are Friends with Coaches to we don’t want to play that team that sometimes go in the decision. A lot of folks think Boyle the next 2 years will be the second most talented team in the State behind Trinity and this year will be as good or better than last,so I doubt Smith is avoiding games. I have even heard up here in Louisville that Boyle has tried to get Trinity on the schedule for 2019.
  9. I feel Trinity will be very good again and the top team in Ky but maybe not quite as solid as last year.
  10. Trinity will be just as good the next couple of years and I believe the in State Competition will regress the next year couple of years especially next year. There is a couple of schools in State that could give them a good game but will not be on the schedule.
  11. After watching all the games here is my top 12 from the weekend for fun. They all would be great games by rankings. Trinity/cov cath,Boyle/X,etc. Just my thoughts. 1.Trinity 2.Cov Catholic 3.Boyle County 4.St Xavier 5. Franklin Simpson 6. Danville 7. Beechwood 8. Corbin 9. Johnson Central 10. Mayfield 11. Madison Southern 12. Raceland
  12. Great game Rocks! Moore in my eyes best player in the State!
  13. Boyle’s skilled kids were great that game but the offensive line was blocking at the second level they were Great. Lineman are forgotten at times don’t forget the Sophomore Dlineman they have coming back in Kelly who is a D1 prospect and set the tone up front in stopping the run. There middle Backer Roller a Sophomore is really good also.
  14. Congrats Coach Preston. Great game plan and execution, especially on defense. Great win.
  15. I’m not a Danville or Mayfield fan,but agree with the above statement. Danville’s QB was my MVP. If he would have stayed out when he went down early,I feel Danville would have lost that game,Danville fell apart on offense the one series he was out. He created and extended several plays on 3rd down with his legs. He also played well on defense.
  16. I’ve watched all the games to this point:Disappointing...to say the least.I did feel the 1A crew was ok,but that’s a easy game to call. Stadium is equipped with replay at these stadiums, bring that on board for the championship game only and make only Td’s reviewable. Too much on the line for offficials to blow calls in the end zone.
  17. Boyle dominated Corbin upfront on both sides of the ball. Boyle clearly the superior and more physical football team. Congrats to Boyle.
  18. Red hound I watched you all play Mayfield earlier this year and was impressed how Corbin closed out on the ball on defense. It will be a good one. Good luck to both teams!
  19. St X played well to get the w. Scott put up a fight and those turnovers killed them. X has improved a lot since I watched them play Trinity earlier.
  20. I feel Trinity will run away with this game and win big. I’m going 42-17 but there is also a part of me over the years that tells me anything can happen especially with 14–18 year old young men playing. I’m a big Trinity fan and respect the St X program and know we have to come out and play and not assume anything while playing for the title!
  21. Boyle will be the visitor...I think Boyle matches up better with Corbin than a team like Etown or Central as does Corbin matches up better with Boyle than they did Central. I talked to someone in the Etown program and they said They couldn’t block Kelly and Paycheck up front to establish any kind of run game,Coach Brown even talked about it in his interview. Corbin will also have difficulty,it will be the best defense they have played against. For that reason I’m picking Boyle 24–14 in a close one.
  22. Collins does have a large o line and the qb is a dual threat guy. I'm going Collins 28-24.
  23. I've seen all 4 teams play in person this year, I live here in Louisville and know the Central Coach ,but feel Corbin will win over Central,Sizemore is a winner and the run /pass option will hurt Central and I also like Boyle to beat Etown,Etown just doesn't match up well with Boyle. I'm picking Boyle over Corbin in Lexington.Boyle has got a really good lines on both sides of the ball.If you haven't seen Boyles Dline they are fun to watch. You have probably 6"3 300lb nose with the other tackle probably 5"11 250 and 2- 6"4,6"5 D-ends. All of them are athletic and can move, that's why nobody has ran the ball on them. If your defense shuts down Jarius Brent's,Wondale Robinson and demaurie van cleave your defense is legit. They will see another back as good as the ones mentioned but doesn't get a lot of attention in Becherer,he can break one at anytime. A while back I had him on my top 10 players in 3a,he is fun to watch. It's fun to talk about these games but everyone knows anything can happen, especially when 15,16,17,18 year old kids are playing.
  24. Trinity should get a running clock early in this one. Coach hopefully gets the clock moving and protects players in the 2 half for the big game in Lexington! Trinity 56-7.
  25. I coached for a long time stats doesn’t matter in a big game, it may tell you what a team likes to do the most is about it. It’s about match ups. I’ve watched both teams in person, Etown will struggle because of the size and skill of Boyle’s o and d lines. Etown just doesn’t have the size to match up in the trenches, Boyle’s line is massive and can move on both sides of the ball. To me that will be the difference. Etown is really good, but I feel Boyle wins this one. 42-21
