I agree. Friday night lights should be reserved for high school football.

Pikeville graduated some key players last year plus as others have mentioned has lost a really good quarterback. Still, I'm going with the Pikeville Panthers in this one.

Greenup County did their camp on their campus.

I saw on twitter Pikeville had a midnight practice.

Just out of curiosity how are all these transfers from other states landing at Mayfield? I'm not familiar with the town? Is the economy there good? Are families moving there for jobs?

I played right guard and defensive tackle through grade school and until my senior year in high school when I was moved to center. Luckily, I never suffered one.

I dislike the Sunday game too. I dislike it because it is being played on Sunday.

I liked Pikeville's plain, solid white helmets. I think they wore them in 1987 when they won their first of 3 state championships.

These are probably my favorite helmets in all of KHSAA football.

David Jones has really changed the image of Phelps in a short amount of time. For the last few years I think it could be argued that Phelps, Jenkins, and South Floyd were the three worst teams on the eastern side of the state. David Jones has changed this for Phelps. I have no ties with Phelps yet I'm excited to see what lies in store for that program in 2017.

Will they update these rankings before the season starts? I mean South Floyd is ranked, and they don't even exist as a high school anymore.

I'm assuming this is the son of Greg Couch who was the qb at EKU in the mid 90's.

From all the off the field turmoil that seems to be taking place in Prestonsburg and the county in general, I'm not looking for them to have that great of a year. Like ATLcat said though, they do play in a very winnable district.

Eastern Kentucky University is host a 7 on 7 camp on July 25.

Greenup County is hosting their 1st annual Air Raid By The River on July 15. I'm not sure what teams are participating.

I read the Haywood book when it was first released and absolutely loved it. I read the Friday Night Lights book before the movie came out. Once again the movie tended to change the way things really occurred. I wish they would quit using the phrase, "Based on a true story."

I would love to see them get back to form like in the early 80's. I love the town of Paris and the city school system there. Hopefully Coach Washington can get them rolling like a couple seasons ago.
