August 1st is the first day that players can wear full pads for contact. I thought I'd do a roll call for all schools who do a midnight madness intrasquad scrimmage when the clock hits 12:00 tonight. Also, how well attended is your midnight madness?

Simon Kenton and Ryle both do it.

Heard Oldham County doing it this year.

Can go full pads at 12:01.

12:01 is when you can put on pads. If you do it before 12:00 and warmup it's illegal.

With all due respect it just sounds like a silly gimmick to me. Trinity will have their first full pads practice Tuesday morning and actually get something out of it.

Ryle hasn't done the midnight madness in a few years. They do a Raider Madness which is a festival type atmosphere and very family friendly on August 1st.

With all due respect it just sounds like a silly gimmick to me. Trinity will have their first full pads practice Tuesday morning and actually get something out of it.

 

No different than the midnight madness basketball teams do that people love. I see nothing wrong with it, and for those teams that make it a big event it seems like a good way to get some excitement going and rally the community around the team. What's the harm??

Every program is different...for a lot of public schools they are trying build excitement in their program.
