We took some of our sponsorship money and paid Kenan McWhorter, Georgetown All American WR, to come and do a WR Camp. Free for our guys. No travel either. Some kids/families can’t afford to travel/attend camps in June. 17 WRs, grades 7 thru 12 participated today. Kenan did a super job and our kids soaked it up. Our guys & families appreciate the efforts made to give them opportunities & experiences to help them be their best. Entitlement is not too big of an issue for us. Our guys, usually, are grateful & appreciative. Very thankful for our sponsors that make this possible.

This morning, we had our MS, Freshman, JV & Varsity QBs for some fundamentals work and then review of reads & progressions. I am crazy about all four of these guys. Good athletes & leaders. All four of these guys are multi sport guys. You can still get done what you need to get done. But, the calendar may not look the same every year.

Today’s monsoon…. Great opportunity to move some Bermuda sod from the perimeter of the practice field to some bare spots. This field was trash 3 years ago. We are killing the cool grasses in the spring and the Bermuda is taking it back over. Good now. Another year or two will be excellent.

That inside-the-park home run in the state baseball tournament. Good grief. Impressive speed. The competitor part came to the surface in that moment as well.

The million dollar question.... Will Coach Adams continue the "Larry French/Chuck Smith" defense or will we see a return to the Confusion Defense he ran in HS with Coach Kenny Roark?

We finished up our first week of Varsity workouts this morning. The freshman will workout tonight at 6 pm. Coach William Blair from Madison Central did a two hour session on Tip Offs w/ us this morning. Excellent information that can help us. Steve Belichick's book on scouting, chapter 12, is the standard for finding Tip Offs. Had a great meal at Heaven's 2 Betsy. Glad Deuce Johnson from Centre College was able to join us.

The NKFCA has been a strong organization for a long time. The fact that they can still have this all star game is impressive. I miss the old KY-TN All Star games. Those were super for kids and KY HS Football. Just so tough to pull off these days. Tom Potter , wonderful man. Sure do miss the times I would get to talk to him. First at Paris and then again at Mason.

June workouts began this morning. Energy, effort & leadership were strong. Other good news... Clayton Stratton(Junior) has an offer to KY State University. Hudson DeGarmo(Senior) has offers from Maryville College & Thomas More. Was proud of big Markell Smith(Sophomore) today. Came to the team workout at 7 am then went to the UK camp when we finished. Was good to get a picture of him with Trosper. We found out last week Trosper will get to continue at UK this fall. He has been a student assistant the last 4 seasons. Thankful he will get to stay w/ the CATS & the new staff. He has already learned alot!

NEW: Indiana's Curt Cignetti says College Football is in danger if something doesn't change soon: “The market is pretty expensive — it’s scary. It’s scary. I think players should get paid. But something’s going to have to be done in the next 12 to 24 months, or universities might not be able to handle this. It has been a busy year for job openings. I am going to predict another job will come open. A couple possible reasons... 1) losing a good player(s) via transfer or focusing on another sport. 2) HFC have a blow up with a school administrator.

Good grief. I HATE this idea but beginning to think you are a prophet. ? Very curious to see how all of this plays out.

Our last podcast episode, we had Stefan Krajisnik , beat writer for Ohio State football for Cleveland dot com. Met Stefan at the Rose Bowl in January. He is an IU grad. We asked him, who will be the top 5 College football programs in 5 years. He went with: 1-Ohio St. 2- Texas 3- Oregon 4- Georgia 5- Indiana 6- Notre Dame He based his ranking on resources and coaching.

I like this hire a lot. Coach Roberts has paid his dues and been a big part of PC success. It is so hard to hire & keep good assistants. Knowing you can become the head coach at a school helps to make it more attractive for aspiring head coaches.

It was almost 100 years ago, but Blanton Collier was both the head football and head basketball coach at Paris HS during the 1930s. He turned out pretty good. ? ?

With the influx of kids that will come back out for football, there will be no comparison between last year’s roster & 2026.

You are correct. It is a tough district! But, I go back to 1997. They added Lawrence to our district with Russell, Lloyd & Newport. We had NEVER beat the Red Devils, Juggs or Wildcats. But, we got all 3 that season. You just keep working and grinding. Eventually, you are going to bust through!

In the late 90’s , our district was Newport, Lloyd, Mason Co. , Fleming Co. , Lewis Co., Russell & Lawrence Co. Almost 3 hours from one end to the next.

Coach Burns is an excellent hire. Congratulations to him and the Titans!

We had a weight meet yesterday at Anderson Co. w/ Taylor County. Coach Davey McCann put it together. I was really impressed w/ the Taylor Co. kids. William Harris is their new head coach. We coached together at Mercer from 2015 thru 2021. He did a super job for those seven years and is an excellent young coach. This was a great event for both programs and our kids!

Also...football is driven by assistant coaches. Those guys are critical. Late openings, looking internal is a good first option. Any time you can send the message that you will promote from within, your assistant coach positions become more attractive. Before I took the job at Anderson, I had this conversation with my new Superintendent. I don't plan on leaving any time soon, but if the guys on staff know they will have a legitimate shot at replacing me, it really helps me find good assistant coaches, and that is tough to do these days.
