Looked every bit of it, standing next to Adkins. He's long and lean. Some parents are afraid that he might forgo football and focus on basketball. However, after the offensive player of the game, I would hope he changes his mind.

That was my thought, however, there were a couple of times in short yardage situations, I thought that another big body might help. I do understand though. If they don't have a backup it is a difficult decision.

I asked the same question last night. They said he is a DE, however, he hasn't played it this year. Don't know why...

It didn't look like they really needed him. Would have done fine without him. He only scored twice. Defense, he played corner. Had a few tackles. Wasn't a threat throwing the ball. JMO

Oh my gosh! I've been saying that for two weeks. I'm glad some people are catching on. That is something that now one would expect, nor have they shown it this year. As well, in the wishbone, split O'Brian out in a slot and have Keyran out wide on the other side, then you can surprise people.

That's something that the parents around me were talking about. They said that he hasn't played with the freshman all year. One of them said that he hadn't even practiced with them this week.

Game day! This is the one a lot of us have been waiting for. I would love to see an arial view of Putnam Stadium about mid way through the 1st qtr. I'm sure it would be a sight. I'm glad I already have a seat for this one saved. Going to be a great night for some football, and one of the premier games in the state. I believe 4 undefeated 6A schools are playing each other tonight. If you are close enough, get to this game, heck, if you're far away get to this game... See everyone tonight.

Good game by the young Cats. Russell couldn't hold on to the ball all night. Every time they had something going, it ended in a fumble. Ashland's defense bent but didn't break on a few occasions. Russell's qb is a good size kid. Burnt the defensive backs on a big pass play. Robinson is a very good running back. Edmanson runs well between the tackles and is a good pass blocker. I thought the Cats did well mixing up the pass and run. Adkins played the majority of the snaps under center and in the shotgun. He's a BIG qb. Listed at 6'4, 207. Threw the ball well. Ratliff played defensive corner all night. He took a few snaps as well. I think he only had one completion. However, I've said all along he can run. He proved that tonight. Ran two long tds. Coaches are going to have to make a decision in a couple of years whether or not to have a passing qb or a running qb. Someone said that Coach Love was on the radio with Dicky and stated that both qbs have their own skill sets. My thoughts after watching the game would be to have Ratliff and Robinson in the backfield and let Adkins get them the ball in space. That trio in the backfield, along with Edmanson, might be able to do some damage against their opponents. Edmanson and Caines were tremendous on both sides of the ball. Both had great games. Edmanson came away with the defensive player of the game, but it could have gone to Caines as well. I was told that Caines set a state high jump record in middle school, said it was over 6'. He can catch the ball too. The entire Tomcat Freshman team deserves credit; it was a total team win. The Tomcat's future looks bright.

I will say this, I have (occasionally) raised my voice at an official at different times and at different sporting events. However, last Friday I was in my normal seat at my normal venue; I might have "yelled" a couple of time at an official, but later on, when everyone else was "yelling", I stated that it was a good call. A couple of times I did this, then, on one final occasion, someone said (so I could hear them), "He (me) has an excuse for everything". Sorry I wasn't on the bandwagon "yelling" at every call.

He has picked up a couple of first downs in some games. However, I could pick up a first down after handing off to Backer 9/10 times. Not that that's bad on his part. He had one first down called back early in the season due to a flag. I think it was a 15 yard run. Against Russell, he had a couple good runs. As well, against EC he had a good scramble when he threw a td pass. (A side note, I thought he was past the line of scrimmage). Now, I will say that I just prefer Dowdy as the starter. I think he handles himself better on the field. Very direct in his decision making. Just saying.

The games I've been to, Ashland has a good running back (Robinson). He really excels in the open field with good speed. They have a good linebacker #33 (Edmonson) I think. He seems to really get after it. Their qb is big and has a good arm (Adkins). He made some good decisions throwing when I saw them. I was told that they are 3-3.

I'll give him credit, Ratliff can run. However, it seems like he is a run first, pass second qb. I don't feel that he gives himself enough time for the receivers to get open. He tucks it and runs. JMO

Heard that this game is being played tonight at Putnam Stadium. Always a good game for the freshman. Anyone know about these two team. I've seen the young Cats play a couple of times, but don't know much about the Red Devils. Any thoughts/predictions?

I was talking to a source close to the situation, saying that Baker's offers have slowed dramatically after he decommited to UK. I'm sure he wouldn't want the reputation of decommiting at the drop of a hat. He would have to decommit from Marshall to have the offers start coming back in. As well, he has a good fan base in this area and I'm sure he'd like to see familiar faces in the stands at the Joan.

I still prefer Dowdy, Ratliff is too much of a run first, pass second qb.

Just curious, not knocking the kid, but why would he be the better option? I have seen him play and he looks very inconsistent throwing the ball.

I understand getting other people the ball. The 1990 state championship game, Lincoln co focused on Thomas all game, he only had 40? yards. Hutt, on the other hand, ran for 140 yards and 3 scores. I would love to have another Hutt on the team, no disrespect to Roberts or any other running back. Baker will break a few and although not get his avg, he'll get his yards. For us to be successful, others need to take some of the pressure off Quinton. I do love that we have been using O'Brian in the passing game. I've been saying it all a long. Hopefully we will have a passing game next year, but that's for another thread. This game shouldn't be a blowout. I suspect that it will be a very close margin of victory. I can't bet against my cats, so here's my prediction: Ashland 24 Johnson Central 22
