Both players seem to be in the discussion for Kentucky Mr. Football. With regard to their type of play and their need for a big game against a quality opponent to set themselves apart in the Mr. Football race, who has a better week.

 

The numbers don't necessarily have to be greater then the other, make an argument for what would make a better performance for each player versus their opponent. For example: Daniel is a QB and LB, he could have an overall better game with 18 tackles, but less offensive output. And Baker is a RB but plays some defense and special teams, he could have 150 yards with no tackles and be better this week.

 

Daniel and Paintsville are ranked number two in Class 1A and face number seven Raceland.

Daniel Stats:

Rushing: 73 attempts for 589 yards averaging 74 yards/ game and 14 TD's

Passing: 48/86/5 for 693 yards and 7 TD's

Tackles: 59 solo, 41 assists, 100 total

Baker and Ashland are ranked number three in Class 4A and face number one Johnson Central.

Baker Stats:

Rushing: 158 attempts for 1728 yards and 25 TD's averaging 217/game

Receiving: 3 receptions for 38 yards

INT's: 2 for 81 return yards and 1 TD

Their teams are playing different opponents. I'm just wanting to compare what would qualify each player as having a better performance this week as it relates to the Mr. Football race.

If Baker can get well over 100 and 2 plus scores on JC with them keying to stop him he will have had a huge performance. It's all on the OL to get off the ball get on their blocks and sustain them a few seconds.

I agree. If he is held to under 100 yards I have to think that is a feather in Johnson Central's cap. And, with his average being 200 per game, holding him below 100 would be a lack luster performance for him.

 

I think for him to make a statement as a player, he has to have over 100 yards and at least 2 scores with Ashland winning the game. Without that performance, I think he is still looking for a break out performance as far as the Mr. Football Award goes.

Kash Daniels and Quinton Baker don't show the same speed and quickness as Jacob Smith from Newcath. I don't get all the hype towards those two, both play poor schedules and seem over rated to me.

Don't see the Rams shutting down Kash. Man among boys this year. JC has the defense (group of athletes, and it will take a group) that can contain Baker for one game. Contain, not stop. Plus, Ashland's offense is somewhat one dimensional. Contain Baker (easier said than done) and dare someone else to beat you and live with the results. Production from O'Bryan on offense could change the game.

I think I may have not explained the intent of this thread as well as needed. We are just looking at who could have a break out game this week in regard to the Mr. Football race. The two players have different styles and play different positions, so the criteria for why one has a better game could be much different from the criteria for why the other player did not have a great game. And, with different opponents, each player's performance could be held to different standards.

To answer the question I think their team's success will play a larger part than whatever stats they put up. Baker can have 250 yards rushing and 8 tackles but if Ashland loses then do his game stats matter?

Daniels. I have already stated that I feel like Daniels is the front runner and that Baker will need to defeat Johnson Central in order to take over as the front runner of Mr. Football.

Fans of the upper classes are the only ones that use school size as an argument. The top of Class 1A is good football.
