I too hate the exaggerated 40 times, but to his defense, he was clocked and published as running a 4.29 at one of the big combines and has consistently been clocked below 4.35.

Like I said 10.79 100 Meter dash, (in case you're not sure how fast that is its roughly 21 MPH) State Champ, Also ESPN has a reported 4.47 40 yard dash. Which isn't 4.29, but is absolutely smoking. Especially listed at 190lbs.

I can buy your logic and thought process here ... it makes sense and it is not over the top. Like you say ... he is an incredible talent ... and he has incredible speed. That is truly what is important. It certainly does not diminish his ability as a player. I wish more people would go about things in the manner in which you did here.

 

These types of stories do just as much damage as good (at least .. that is my opinion). It is hard for people like me ... who have a background in track ... to even take a 2nd glance at stories like this. It looks questionable .. and it stops some coaches dead in their tracks .. meaning ... it is hard to buy into stories like this. It puts the credibility of many people in question .. which ultimately hurts the young man in question.

 

I am just tired to death of these stories that come from camps .. where kids are running faster than 99.9999% of the fastest players in the history of the NFL. Not to mention ... 4.29 puts Baker approximately 3 strides off Usain Bolt ... you know ... the fastest man in the history of the WORLD. (Not to mention .. if any college in the country actually believed that he ran a 4.29 ... he would have an offer from every school in the SEC, Top 25, etc, etc).

Two Great high school football players, both are very legitimate candidates for KY. Mr. Football, imo. Daniel is better on defense / LB than on offense imo and that's a statement bc he is a force on O as well.

Baker is the best RB that I have seen on the h.s. level in many years. Yes, I think there have been better in our area / NEKY but certainly not many at all. As former NFL Coach Bum Phillips said about Coach Paul Bear Bryant ... "if he's not in a class by himself then it sure as hell doesn't take long to call the roll."

I would buy that number ... 4.47 sounds a little more realistic. And ... as you say .. it is still smoking fast. There were 2 kids in the AAA State Track and Field Championship who posted faster 100 Meter times than Baker ... I certainly haven't seen anyone accuse those guys of running faster 40 times than Baker ... !

For the rest of you ... do yourself a favor and study up on speed and numbers. And one more quick lesson ... everything you read and see ... whether it is from a camp, a newspaper or a piece of Charmin ... doesn't mean it is credible or factual. Take a few minutes and convert the times to true, known speed ... it doesn't hurt the kid .. and a few more people may be able to buy into your opinion.

Three different watches clocked the time. It wasn't as official as laser time but three different watches you shave off a little bit he's still running a 4.35 which is a top 5 40 at this years NFL combine I think. He's not just straight line speed, he can make you miss.

 

 

 

 

This award should go to Baker, but Daniel is gonna be a stoop troop so I can see it landing his way.
