The issue is that to a certain extent ADs are really pretty limited in the role that they play in the actual hiring process. Ultimate decision to hire does not go to the AD.

You can say what you want about how star ratings are a joke. All I know is the teams at the top of the recruiting rankings are usually decent football teams (insert sarcasm) with a lot of 4 and 5 star recruits.

Gilliam was at Rowan County for about three weeks and it was during an off season so yeah he didn't have much success there. When is one ready for a head coaching job? What, in your vast knowledge of the game of football, is the criteria for being ready to be a head coach?

It will be really expensive at first but as with most products as more people buy it and demand goes up the price will go down. I love this idea.

Had this discussion with a friend at the game when it happened.....if you are on the wrong end of a beat down like this do you want the opponent to get that running clock as quickly as possible or are you more upset because it seems like the other team is running if up? Having the running clock at 36 instead of 35 has made this an issue. But anyway Lafayette played really well in the first half but shot themselves in the foot some. The turnover following the 4th down stop was huge. Lafayette is a really good football team but Male is on a whole different level than everyone else.

I was at the game and several Paintsville fans (didn't ask if they were parents or otherwise affiliated) indicated to me that Stoops and staff suggested that he not play.

I'm not a fan of multiple sites. I've always thought you pick one site for the east and play ALL eastern half state semi finals there and do the same for the west. Make it a Friday/Saturday event just like the finals. Match up the Saturday semis to the Saturday finals to even out prep time (i.e. If 2A state finals are on Saturday then 2A semis are on Saturday). I think everyone agrees that the state finals are a great experience in part because every class is on display and you get to see a lot of football. How much fun would it be to have that kind of experience two weekends in a row?!

I always enjoy these threads and view them differently than most. Not always a negative thing there are several reasons why jobs come open (taking administration job, retiring, taking a new job, etc.).

A first time head coach is one thing, a first time high school coach in any capacity is totally different. Wow.

It almost seems as though they are interviewing candidates left and right with no real strategy. I agree very very odd.

What an intriguing scenario. You will lose in school weights (if you had them) but you may end up getting more kids out because they have to play a sport as an option to obtain a PE credit.

That would be an interesting hire for sure. Where is he at currently? He fielded a couple decent teams at Perry Central which is tough to do.

Just like with Mercer job I know that Johnson was an unreal player but the fact that someone can not coach at the high school level and end up getting a high school head coaching job is baffling to me. That being said maybe I do know his full career of experience. Has he ever coached anything but middle school football?

Probably Southern. Head coach has won a lot of games with Damien Harris and overall had done a good job there.

The point is not that he doesn't have head coaching experience it's that he doesn't even have any high school coaching experience at all. Hiring a first time head coach is one thing. Heck I am sure there are a lot of long time assistants who have never been head coaches would love to have this job. But you can't base an argument for hiring a head coach off of what they did as a player and expect to get the best results.

True. Especially if you are like Woodford and have a late window for Spring Practice. Waiting longer also gives a clearer picture of what teaching positions will be available for the new hire and any potential assisatnts which is obviously a good thing.
