Interesting. I assume they manned up on Hagen Tyler? Some would question whether this should have been saved for a potential region matchup which has validity. Though by winning the District, Lincoln has a 1/3 chance of being on Wayne's side of the bracket and Boyle a 2/3 chance. At least I believe so.

Franklin County 58 Woodford County 42
KYBleacherButt replied to roothog's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Decided to go here instead of the 42nd or 43rd. Partly because I really like the Frankfort Convention Center and I like District finals more with teams that are region favorites. Seems to be more joy and passion to win the game. Anyways... First, the improvement Franklin County has made since I saw them in January is staggering. Franklin packed it in with a 2-3 and dared Woodford County to beat them from the outside. Woodford was all to willing to take the dare and it showed in the end. From the beginning to the end Franklin steadily extended the lead till the outcome wasn't in doubt about halfway through the 4th. Franklin's hustle and effort was great all night. Ryan Schneider played his usual good game. Michael Clark stood out to me much more than he had previously, shot the ball well and finished at the rim. At least for one night, Diablo Stewart (their 8th grade PG), really seemed to have calmed down and didn't seem to force things like I'd seen in the past. Demarcus Kennedy was an absolute beast on the glass. Maybe I just noticed him more but I wouldn't be surprised if he had 15 boards, I'll be interested to see the box score. Overall I was impressed with how much better Franklin County played. I still wouldn't expect them to compete with the Lexington schools at the Region Tournament. Of course I'd bet few expected them to win either game this week since they were 0-2 against both Frankfort and Woodford County yet they won both handily. -
If you know of where it shows the dates for all the Region tournaments on the site I'd like to know. I've searched all over and can't find it. Obviously the scoreboard will have them eventually but they won't until they are drawn, reported, etc. I like to be able to plan ahead, see where I could go each night.

Jekobi Wells definitely had the two most memorable plays of the night, both good and bad. Good With about 4-5 seconds left in the first half Paris forced a turnover and Wells ended up with the ball on the break. He went up and had a ridiculous one handed slam right in the face of a Bourbon Co player who fouled him. There was less than a second left when he made it. The gym went absolutely nuts. There were fans running down the sidelines, a guy behind me jumped from the second row over the first to run down the sideline. It was crazy. It was, without a doubt, the best dunk I've seen all year and I've seen 100+ games. Bad Paris was up by 5 with ~15 seconds left, got the ball (rebound or turnover, honestly don't recall), and passed it ahead to Wells. He went up for an uncontested two handed dunk, missed it, and as the ball was rattling around on the rim he just hung on it...and hung on it...did a chin up...and got T'd up. It was a no doubter in my opinion. Bourbon County hit both free throws to cut it to 3. Then had a contested look at a three at the buzzer that just rimmed out. Went around quickly and spun out, so it was just barely off. So at the end of each half he probably had the most ridiculous play and boneheaded play I've seen all year.

This is very, very true. LexCath is definitely a well coached and disciplined bunch. They could have scored in the 70 's or 80's but that pace would have favored PLD more. The Knights did an excellent job of being patient on offense and letting Williams/Hollingsworth take tough, contested jumpers. I did think Dunbar played better defense last night than I'd seen all year from them. -
You are correct. I just have look at the wrong one. Sorry about that.

District Seeding Plans I looked through them all last month and I found four, your list minus the 54th.

And...it's not difficult for teams/fanbases to develop bad blood when they play so frequently in such a short period of time. -

Were you there? It may not have just been the student section. https://twitter.com/LaurenWYMT/status/570410620174114816 Not excusing it at all but this is the 4th times these two teams have played this year and 3rd time in 20 days. -

Anyone else notice the exchange between Ogbogu for LexCath and Darius Williams for Dunbar? In the second half Williams had a nasty block towards the LexCath bench on a drive by Ogbogu. Williams then turned and was jawing right in Ogbogu's face. Ogbogu walked away at first but then right before the inbounds he threw his shoulder into Williams hard, nearly knocked over. None of the officials saw any of it. Personally, I thought T's could have been given for both items, the jawing and shoulder, but amazingly both went unseen. -

And #0, Jordan Lewis will be back. He played very well tonight. Justin Kelley will also be a senior next year, he did a good job of guarding Tanner Johnson tonight. They'll return all five of their top players from tonight. -

This is very accurate. If he's away from the basket it is just to clear the lanes for drives. He'll then cut to the basket for passes and offensive rebounds. He is very, very athletic for his size and can really cover ground well to block shots and get rebounds. As far as who guards him...athletically Weyer is a better matchup. However he doesn't really drive to the basket or anything so I believe McDonald could guard him as well. In fact, given the rest of Trinity's roster (most kids can put it on the floor) my guess is that McDonald guards Spalding and Weyer checks Thieneman if NCC plays man. One big factor for NCC will be that Weyer and/or McDonald will be able to pull Spalding from under the basket on defense. Their ability to shoot the ball will force him to respect that and negate some of his shot blocking ability in drives by others players. When he can float to the basket without fear of what the player he's guarding is going to do Trinity's defense becomes ridiculous. If he has to respect the jumpshot of the guy he's guarding their defense suffers. -

Being at home I'll go with NewCath to win a close, competitive game from two of the best in the state. Lawnboy13 or anyone else, I'm planning on going to NewCath for the first time for this one, assuming I'm not snowed in. Not sure of the size of the gym or expected crowd and that sort of thing, any suggestions on when one should get there to beat the crowd? -

I know Johnson Central and Buckhorn were canceled. No knowledge of if it'll be rescheduled.
