The Knights just gut out the win. Talbott came up big as Dunbar shut down Tanner Johnson. Hollingsworth is gonna be special.

Dunbar had an edge late and couldn't hold on to it. Didn't get to see it yet, but from reading some of the updates and following some of the Twitter chatter, you can't help but get the feeling that this is one of those games where Lexington Catholic had just been in this spot a few more times than Dunbar, so they knew how to pull it out.

 

I do think that this game should be notice to everyone else in the 11th that next year's Dunbar team is going to be nasty. Taveion Hollingsworth, who had quite a game for himself tonight, Darius Williams, who will probably be the #1 player in the region coming in, and Dontell Brown are all back. Williams will be a senior, Hollingsworth and Brown juniors. They'll be a hungry team, and the experiences from this year and last means that they'll probably have picked up a thing or two about winning these types of games.

 

Hats off to the Bulldogs. You would win plenty of other regions in the State, but you happen to play in it's toughest district, so you get Catholic in a one and out, after you'd probably not been able to practice for a few days as well. Still, they've done some things, including the first win at Catholic in the school's history (since the new PLD opened) and made progress this year, even getting to the point where they were ranked in the State polls.

 

I know that probably doesn't sound like tons of consolation to them right now, but they don't have anything to hang their heads about.

I think that's the formula for beating Catholic this season. Hold Johnson to around his average, force Talbott to go left and don't let him get back right once he goes, and try to keep Griffin in check, bump him off cuts, body him, whatever you need to do. If you hold Johnson to his average, most teams in the 11th will take there chances with the rest I'd imagine.

 

Not saying that Talbott and Griffin are bad players at all because they aren't, I just don't know if those two and the rest of what they have is enough to play in the 70's if you can keep Johnson at around 25 or so, which is still a few points over his average.

That's what it's all about. Survive and advance. They live to fight another day. With Madison Central weakened, the 11th draw isn't as much of a factor. If you are the Knights, you go on to region anyway, and are now three wins away from another trip to Rupp.

 

The intrigue in a Bryan Station-Lexington Catholic game is definitely there and is only building, at least for me. In a way, it seems like those two could be on a collision course. They've both been at or near the top of the rankings for the majority of the year while Lafayette, LCA, Dunbar, and Henry Clay have all had their moments. Would definitely be a fun one to see go down.

And #0, Jordan Lewis will be back. He played very well tonight. Justin Kelley will also be a senior next year, he did a good job of guarding Tanner Johnson tonight. They'll return all five of their top players from tonight.

Anyone else notice the exchange between Ogbogu for LexCath and Darius Williams for Dunbar?

 

In the second half Williams had a nasty block towards the LexCath bench on a drive by Ogbogu. Williams then turned and was jawing right in Ogbogu's face. Ogbogu walked away at first but then right before the inbounds he threw his shoulder into Williams hard, nearly knocked over. None of the officials saw any of it. Personally, I thought T's could have been given for both items, the jawing and shoulder, but amazingly both went unseen.

True story. Didn't mean to omit either of those kids. Dunbar is going to be tough. Where is the 8th grader who played varsity this season at in terms of development, etc.? I'll be the first to admit that I haven't seen much of him, but it's always interesting to see a kid playing up at one of the bigger schools.

He had 17 in the first half. If you go up and get fouled on the shot, it's still an attempt. How many do you think he converted at the line if he was 6 of 19 overall on the game but had 17 at halftime?

 

I don't really know if I'd call a comeback win inside of 2 minutes "playing into someone's hands" necessarily. That's kind of discrediting Dunbar.
