Well said, Birdie. There is definitely a lot for the birds to work on in the next week; knowing Brian W well, I'm confident he get things in the right direction. I was shocked at Hergott's performance as well; I anticipated a lot more. My hope is that he was just hyped up for his first varsity start and he will settle into the position as the year goes on. I was also surprised that the o-line struggled; they looked very unlike the traditional well oiled machine Coach Turner runs out each year. Icompletely understand that X is a notch above, but with three returning starters, I kind of expected more. Is Carson Haas no longer starting? I would anticipate Coach Turner will have them much improved by Friday.

Allen, you're correct. That has been the formula for years on end. Does HHS want to win on the frosh and JV level? Of course. That's like asking "Does a bear sh*t in the woods?" It's all about development and keeping kids in the program; like you said. There were multiple kids I played with at HHS who as frosh were flat out bad... But the coaches worked with them day after day and they were committed to being better. Like you, I'm sure, that's why I get frustrated with posters who look at records of 14 year old kids and try to predict how they will play as seniors... Absurd.

Having "pre game" Thursday practice on Thanksgiving Day during the playoffs was one of my favorites in high school.

I am not sure when the 7 on 7s are. The only one I will be able to make it to NKY for is the tournament at Ryle. It sounds like that should be a cool event with middle school, frosh, JV, and varsity all participating in one place against multiple schools. I am currently coaching middle school football outside of Louisville and would love to organize/get involved with something like that down here.

They have been a contender for pretty much the last ten years if not longer; nothing has changed and I doubt anyone who knows a lick about KY high school football would say otherwise. John Schlarman (UK Offensive line coach) has visited HHS to talk with coach W twice and met/saw Bo both times. I am not sure if his size (I'm guessing he's around 6'1 300) will permit him to play in the SEC, but he definitely has the strength and intense monitor to play at the next level. IMO what will help Bo a lot in getting to the next level is that he has been a three year starter (lots of tape) and his workout times/lifts will be outstanding

The field is also being shifted slightly in order to make it safer along the corners of the end zones for both players and fans. Seems like miracle no one has been seriously hurt running into the school, a fence, etc.

Some names to possibly consider: Michael Davidson, Kyle Finfrock, Michael Dunn, Mitchell Schry, Trey King, and Nathan Raleigh. I won't speculate on heights and weights, but definitely some capable players... Should be a fun year for Coach Turner and HHS RBs.

I honestly don't know the man, so I can't really say if it would be an improvement or not. However, I am not sure that "improvement" would necessarily be the right word... but I get what you're saying. I assumed it was 'public' knowledge as I was able to hear about it in Louisville from a friend at HMS who applied for the job but did not get it.

B Coach Mueller will retire at the end of the year from teaching and his AD position. HHS recently named Matt Haskamp (former HHS assistant principal and Moyer Elementary principal) AD starting next year.

I understand. I was just trying to inform others on the forum who have the misconception that a letter means a lot. Good luck to your son! I find it ironic that specialists are so important yet are always the last to get offers.

Clearly you know the information I gave. Congratulations! I'm sure you're proud of yourself. However, it is obvious that many people on here did not know that. Ever think that maybe I was trying to help out the other people on here who haven't been "blessed" with your insight into the process?

It is very important to realize that getting letters from schools means absolutely NOTHING! I can't reiterate that enough. Colleges send out thousands upon thousands of those letters to young men across the country that they will never actually look at. Until you get calls from coaches, and most importantly, visits from coaches, you're not actually being recruited.

U Completely agree with the sentiment of your message; 7 on 7 can create some bad, bad habits, especially for LBs who are mainly responsible for stopping the run. However, "drawing plays up in the dirt" is a hyperbole... I hope?

Don't get me wrong, it is definitely possible that he moves back to RB. I just pictured him being "the guy" in the middle of the birds defense this coming year. As you know, he played a big role in the turn around of the state game when the birds switched from two ILBs to three and shut down Owensboro. I figured with the stable of backs HHS has without counting him, he would stay on the D side. Who knows??

Dougherty isn't a RB. Are you thinking of Jared Pulsphort? (sp?) Grant Murray will definitely be in this conversation by the end of the year IMO.

Absolutely. It would ignorant to think otherwise. Baseball and softball will be able to utilize both the turf and batting cages, the dance team has a studio now, cheerleading will be able to use the turf area to practice their "fly" drills, soccer teams can use the turf area to practice during inclement weather, and literally every sport can use the actual weight room. The Super, Mr. Kirchner, would have never approved this building had it not benefited the entire athletic department.

It is located in Death Valley. The indoor field is 30-35 yards long and about 25-30 yards wide. There is also a grass practice field outside of the building that's about 50 yards long and about 40 yards wide. Dance studio is also located inside the building.

I think many posters on here would be very surprised at how little lower level college coaches make. This is why you see a lot of NAIA and D-3 coaches jump at the chance to take a good high school level job (solid salary and retirement). Everyone sees the massive contracts of head coaches at large D-1 schools and think that is the norm. Many times NAIA and D-3 coaches are even given free housing as an incentive to stay on board.
