Is 2015 Highlands a Contender or Pretender?

Featured Replies

Seeing the replies to Guru's thread about Covington Catholic, it appears that some think that this is "THE YEAR" for the Blue Colonels to unseat the Birds. This was the same thing that was heard last year about this time. Reasons?

The title of the thread doesn't match your question.

We really have to examine the Birds to make any progress here. In short, unless it is a down talent year in Fort Thomas then Highlands is the #1 Contender like always.

Disagree not in 5A. I have no issue with calling Highlands a contender, but you can't call them #1 contender. Not with Pulaski and Bowling Green in 5A as well.

To quote a not so wise man, "History says otherwise."

Just having fun plant.

Lol fair enough, and its actualy a valid point and one all the Highlands fans can tout. Only response you can give is, "Yes, but this isnt 4A anymore for them."

You are not helping your case plant:

2010: HHS defeated Christian County 50-0 at Houchens-LT Smith Stadium, WKU, Bowling Green, KY, to win the Kentucky Class 5A state championship

2009: HHS defeated John Hardin 35-7 at Houchens-LT Smith Stadium, WKU, Bowling Green, KY, to win the Kentucky Class 5A state championship

2008: HHS defeated Christian County 35-15 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, UL, Louisville, KY, to win the Kentucky Class 5A state championship

2007: HHS defeated Bowling Green 28-7 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, UL, Louisville, KY, to win the Kentucky Class 5A state championship

^ What was the average score in those games? Ouch!!!

Highlands is the favorite in any class (except 6A).

So were are going to compare this year with players who are now out of college? That doesnt make sense.

You got me, that is what I was doing...

Highlands is a contender. However, things will get harder since they won't be playing those cupcake district games, resting key guys for the regional run. They may have to man up every week this year.

Arguably, Highlands best run in the last 100 years. Beat Elder at the pit and beat nationally ranked Cincy St. X @ DCMS. Went to Colerain and hung tough with the Cards. Beat Trotwood Madison on their home field with at least 6 D1 legit players on their team. Might be more but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Go into the season thinking Highlands is a pretender, you better call the "crow" guy and tell him,"we're going to need more crow." :lol2:

That's what I am talking about.

TM was at UC, but it was an awesome game! Classic in my mind.

Here's the simple answer if you're asking the pretender or contender question, at least with Highlands:

Is Highlands going to have a team this year?

The answer to that question will always be an answer to if Highlands is a contender.

I have to say "pretender". Haha just wanted to beat UKFan to the punch.

Seriously, Highlands again has 3-4 legit D-1 players on this years squad whether major D-1 or 2nd tier D-1. I'm thinking contender AGAIN!
