Unique Football Traditions

There have been threads about best game day atmosphere, uniforms, etc., but I have not seen any thread about traditions that are unique to your specific HS football team/school.

 

What are some of the special traditions that are out there around the state?

Having "pre game" Thursday practice on Thanksgiving Day during the playoffs was one of my favorites in high school.

Although there are many Highlands traditions, one of my favorites is when the boys wear their little league jerseys for pregame on Thursdays before game day.

I don't know that this was unique but starting with junior high football (7, 8 and 9 played freshman ball back in those days), we wore ties on game days and it continued through to high school.

Ashland had a tradition of playing it's last game of the season against a NKY school. That tradition should end this year.

I happen to like when the PA announcer leads us all to a prayer... but we all that not politically correct now a days and it might offend a few..

We would always have two-a-days during fall break, and it seemed to rain that week almost every year. Now the schedule is set up so that almost none of the area teams play that week.

Though not exactly unique, "Tunnel Time" for Belfry has been a longstanding tradition and really sets the atmosphere at home. Belfry comes out to "2001: A Space Odyssey" and proceeds to do the starting lineup while fans line the field and little kids high five their favorite players. A unique, but less long standing tradition is the train horn Belfry uses

 

 

 

 

 

My favorite Belfry tradition though is how the late, great Belfry P.A. Steve Phillips instilled the trademark "For another..... PIRATE.... TOUCHDOWN!" call which has been continued on.

I'm always thinking there must be a way to "simulate" the cannon firing...

Smoke machine, compressed air, and a recorded shot over the PA???

 

Even though I grew up hating HHS, I did think the cannon fire was pretty damn cool!
