Sorry for getting so far off topic. I don't know any school districts money situations so I'm simply asking. I know Boone county school district has an extra high school than the Kenton county school district. But how can the Kenton county district afford to have all three of their high school have turf but not the Boone county district?

Nice/well kept grass > turf. But grass becomes hard to manage when freshman ,jv, varsity soccer and football are on it. I think turf is worth the price but not if it means border line bankrupting the athletic department to get it. Turf also needs to be cared for and dragged regularly to spread the black rubber out over the field. Also, turf SHOULD be replaced every so often but local school have been using theirs for 10+ years (Beechwood, CCH, Highlands) and yes, it does become very very worn.

Yeah I remember hearing about that. I would say Boone needs turf the most. Their baseball field isn't very nice to begin with. Practicing in the outfield does not help.

How did Ryle afford its turf? Did they raise a lot of money themselves? But you're right, Boone county high schools athletic fields leave a lot to be desired. They do have very nice gyms. Top notch actually. But none of the baseball fields have lights and grass practice fields usually get torn up pretty fast. Side note: I think soccer should be played on grass as much as possible. No sport is affected by moving from grass to turf as much as soccer.

The BC BOE really should have looked into having two fields at Cooper when they built it. Not sure how much it would have cost but would have been better for Cooper athletics.

Cov. Cath. has had some excellent kickers to say the least in the past 15 years to say the least. Sometimes the well gets a little dry at certain positions, especially a specialty position like kicking. But either way the kicking game should be a little bigger of a focus point over the summer than it usually would be.

Don't know if it is anything with Boone county. I think it is more of that bridge has been burned.

What were the normal numbers for SK? What do you consider down numbers?

maybe VOR hit the nail on the head when he mentioned paper work could be fudged up so he does not play Boone in the opening week. But if you are Boone, you want him to go to CCH. I really doubt he would go back to Boone and if he doesn't go to CCH he might end up at another Boone county high school, which I doubt they want at all (Provided he is found eligible at another public school).

Glyde, you're completely right about how it has been very lopsided. No one will deny that or the fact that Highlands has been simply on another level than CCH. Would it be better if CCH started winning games? Absolutely. But this could had a little bit to each Highlands senior class of not being the team that loses to Cov. Cath. Kinda like Cov. Cath to Dixie.

The Highlands - Cov. Cath. rivalry transcends sports. It is not just a football rivalry anymore. It does not matter the sport whenever someone says "we got Highlands this next game" students tend to take notice and the student sections will always be a little bigger. The soccer/baseball/basketball and all other sports want to beat Highlands just as much as the football guys. Heck I bet a food eating contest between the two schools would draw a crowd.

Hope Litzler comes back. I feel like kicking is half mental and that could have been a big problem for him last year especially if he was a sophomore kicking for the first time. Can only assume he'll be better this year if he comes back. Do you know what the kicker on this past freshman team was like? Is he playing?

You're right. So now I wouldn't doubt is he considers transfer to Bowling Green, Trinity, or X just so he can play on a team that might be able to beat Highlands...

The kicking game needs to improve. That could easily lose them a game. They missed way to many PATs last year. What kind of runner is Darlington? Is he a down hill guy or does he have a good amount of agility? But the names you listed above sound like solid return guys. I would try to get Erpenbeck the ball in open field a few times and kick returning might be it. You have the fastest kid in school history. Have to get him the ball at some point. But I know McDowell and McLure (not sure about McGinness, just don't know enough about him) are very fast themselves.

Let's talk special teams. The kicking game needs to improve from last year. Who will be the kicker? Who will be the punter? Who is likely to be the return men?

The Mud bowl year I believe with Cov. Cath. Study rain showers all day before the game. Highlands had their way with CCH in the first half but some halftime adjustments and a couple Highlands turnovers resulted in a double OT loss.

The biggest shocker is Boone never winning a championship. State runner ups in 86', 87', 92', and 94'. They made it to the semi finals also in 83', 88', 89', 90', 93', and 97'. They might have thrown 20 passes in all of those games combined.

Who do you think will be SK's toughest games will be for them to win?

Never made it to a game there, but was always told this was a great place to see a game. Do you think after all the renovations that it will be worse, the same, or better place to catch a game?

I think playing in the state tournament is a cool and good experience. But does the state tournament have a bracket for just 7th grade teams, 8th grade teams, and 7th and 8th combined? Or do they only have a 7th and 8th bracket? Do you think it would be more beneficial for Ryle to have a 7th grade team and a separate 8th grade team or to stay with the A and B teams?

I think this is going to be a good year for NKY football. I see Ryle rebounding, SK having a very good year, but the team I think to watch out for is Dixie. Dixie should have a stout D, from what I have been told, and a very good quarterback to make plays on the other side of the ball.

All we can do is wait and see about SK. The next couple seasons will tell a lot about the program. I think they will have very good seasons but lets not crown them kings (or should I say Duke or Prince since I am talking about second place) just yet.
