Great post... Agree 100%. It is much more difficult to play baseball in colder and wet weather than other sports... Why do people think baseball has rainouts? You can't grip the ball, you can't see the ball very well, you can't get your footing... If the field is too wet, the ball won't even roll or bounce... Football can effectively be played on cold, wet days... Baseball absolutely cannot.

Honestly, the weather has been so miserable... Either games are cancelled or lightly attended... It'll pick up soon after this week of more bad weather... I hope so anyway.

Heard Ludlow got a nice bounce back win last night against Holmes... Final score of 9-1. The Panthers are now 5-2 on the season.

Boone has a good squad this year... My sleeper pick for the 9th region.

Don't know the kids at HC... Eads went 7 for Ludlow and Slone pitched in the 8th...

Unfortunately for Ludlow, they not only started the 8th with an error, but followed it up with a couple more errors... 2 unearned runs to lose it. They gotta learn and move on though.

I'm pretty sure it is illegal to throw to second... I don't think you can throw to an "unoccupied" base initially. You gotta go to first and the first baseman can throw to second... At least that's my understanding and I can't swear to it.

I guess the only part that still doesn't make sense... Why did the ump in game one tell the kid it was an illegal move? Maybe he didn't quite understand what the kid was talking about , that's all I can figure.

Right, and that's why many are saying "no" as far as Highlands winning it. You're saying they have the pitching and I'm just pointing out, that's not as much of an advantage as it was before the new rule. They lost a lot of hitting and defense the last couple of years too... But point taken regarding Scott and SK... Neither were top teams in the State when they went on their runs... So, who knows? Odds are against the Birds this season though.

Pitching rules have changed since SK's run... They rode 1 hot pitcher in the tourney.. Pitch counts won't allow a team to do that again. Highlands has 2 or 3 solid pitchers, but if 1 of them has a really off outing, they're in trouble... Because the other top pitchers probably wouldn't be available due to the new pitch count rule. That being said, anything can happen in baseball.

On Saturday, Ludlow played a double header at EKU against Model and Jackson City... A situation came up that I just gotta get an answer to for my own sanity... Lol! I hate not knowing the rules. In game one, Evan Slone was the starting pitcher for Ludlow... I heard him, before the game, ask the umpire: "If I get a situation with a runner on first and third, can I fake to third and throw to first for a pickoff?" The ump said, "no, that's now an illegal move. It's a balk". Ok, no incidents at all in game one. However, in game two: Ludlow is batting... Slone is on first and Eads is on third. The pitcher fakes to third and throws to first. Now, Slone, having already discussed it with the ump thinks it's a balk... So he immediately runs for second on the pitcher's move to third. They threw to first and to second... Slone avoids tag. They throw home and Eads avoids the tag. Both runners were safe and the outcome was the same as if a balk had been called, but it wasn't called. Jackson City made a mild argument that Eads was out at home, but no coaches really argued the balk call one way or the other much that I could tell. So, short version.... Outcome was the same either way, but "what's the rule?".... Is that a legal move this year or not? Btw, as far as I know... The pitcher was on the rubber when he made the move. Anyone know for sure?

Ludlow has lost a few good players the last couple of seasons... But they still have Evan Slone, TC Eads and Coach Gray. So, you never know, they might surprise some people and put together a pretty good season. Also, Bellevue has a decent squad again... Lead by Brady Hayes and Briley Seiter... They might make some noise. Obviously, Beechwood is expecting to have a big season... Several seniors on their team this year.

No idea what state-wide numbers of college baseball commitments were in the past.... But, according to PBR Twitter page... This 2016 class already has 71 college baseball commits on the books....and counting.

Thanks for these updates.. I knew it was just a matter of time before more of these 2016's would start getting more interest and/or committing... I've also heard that Seiter and Hayes from Bellevue have gotten solid offers from several schools.. NAIA and D3 schools if I recall correctly...

^^^ forgot to mention... Dayton actually had a girl foul out with over 5 minutes to go in their game... Finished it with 4 players.
