Class 5A Playoffs: #4 Bowling Green at #5 South Oldham
Also looking forward to seeing my friend Purple88 at the game! This will be a very exciting game. I expect BG to crowd the line on defense and make South Oldham beat them through the air. Stopping Souths running game is easier said than done and the OL has vastly improved over the course of the season. If you have to commit too much help to stopping the run, Anthony Pierce has shown he can deliver. On defense South showed a few cracks early vs North Bullitt against the run. I expect Jamie Reed to fix those going into the game. South's pass rush has been very good all year and the DB's have been outstanding. If the Dragons can keep the BG running attack in check without committing extra bodies to help, they will be fine. If they do have to bring LB's or Safeties to help, I expect BG to have some open passing lanes to take advantage of. This game could come down to special teams and the kicking game. South has a pretty good one. How is BG's? Still going South Oldham 24-21.

Class 5A Notebook (11/17): The champ gets KO'd and Cinderella arrives at the ball
QUOTE: Bowling Green (8-3) at South Oldham (11-1) This is clearly the marquee quarterfinal in this class, with the feel of a semifinal quality matchup happening a round earlier. The losses sprinkled throughout Bowling Green's schedule have made them a hard read for most of this season. Unlike years past, the offense didn't feature any superstar players to rely on week in and week out. Everything on that side of the ball has been achieved by committee this year. South Oldham's offensive core is smaller, but more productive, man for man. Anthony Pierce, Keaton Martin, JT Benson, and Ethan Bednarczyk are a well seasoned group, which the Crestwood community has been pointing to for some time now. If you're looking for some separation here, the teams' respective schedules are a good starting point. The Purples have three opponents still playing football, while the Dragons have none. The Central Hardin win a couple of weeks ago has instilled a new level of postseason confidence surrounding South Oldham, but facing the likes of Trinity, St. X, McCracken County, and South Warren (×2), makes BG the more battle tested team right now, and that usually counts for a lot this time of year. Prediction: Bowling Green 28 South Oldham 17 UNQUOTE The Crestwood Community has enjoyed and supported all of our football teams. This group is no different than any of the past groups. Especially since Jamie Reed became Head Coach, South Oldham football has had some very exciting teams to watch. The last five years have been a lot of fun and have had success unlike any other time in school history. We are looking forward to hosting the Purples on Friday night in what looks to be a great game. Still picking my Dragons in a close one. South Oldham 24 BG 21

5A 3rd Round Pairings
I believe the semi-finals, assuming all the home teams win, would have South Oldham at CovCath Owensboro at FD. Don't believe it would change if BG wins--still have to go to CovCath. Definitely will find a way to be at one of those games!

5A 3rd Round Pairings
I will take all the home teams—CovCath, FD, Owensboro and South Oldham. Bowling Green and South Oldham will be the most competitive game. Both are led by outstanding defenses and scoring could be hard to come by. Believe South has more offensive firepower and that will be the difference. Standing by my Dragons in this one!!

5A Top 8 RPI Through 11/1/19
Didn’t see your post until after I posted mine. Didn’t mean to duplicate it.

Who is riding the "Dragon Wagon?"
That’s a tall order for any team! The chances are against South. I still believe this team will be in the final four where anything can happen. Their defense is very good. That will keep them in the game. The offensive line has come a long way and the running game is very tough to stop. All the skill players can take it to the house. Shock the world Dragons!!

5A Top 8 RPI Through 11/1/19
Assuming CovCath, Frederick Douglass, Owensboro and South Oldham make it through, wouldn’t the #1 vs #4 RPI seeds play and #2 vs #3 play? #1 CovCath hosts South Oldham #2 Frederick Douglass hosts Owensboro

South Oldham 43 Central Hardin 7
Believe South Oldham has a good chance of making it to the finals where anything can happen. Their defense is solid!

South Oldham 43 Central Hardin 7
But raises South Oldhams stock in the post season discussion.

5A #6 South Oldham vs. 6A #6 Central Hardin Predictions/Updates
Saw Central Hardin vs North Hardin. That was a very good game and Central Hardin is a very good team. This should be a tough game between two good opponents with different offensive schemes. South likes to run first and set up the pass. Central appeared to pass first. Both play hard nose defensive football. Taking South at home on Senior night in a tight one!

Putting South Oldham at #5. Dragons defense is playing very well right now. Looking forward to the Central Hardin game in a few weeks! That should tell us how ready they are for the playoffs.

Frederick Douglass 36 Scott County 0
My son and I went and saw the first half. FD is as good as the score. That goal line stand was something. SC got a receiver past the safety on play action and caught a pass and took it down to the one. FD shut down the first three plays. Fourth down play was just bad. FD is quick, fast and strong. Their running game is very good. The QB is athletic and a competitor. Can’t say he is a very good passer from what I saw but he gets the ball out there to very good receivers. Defense is very good. Well deserving of the #1 ranking.

5A #3 Scott County at 5A #1 Frederick Douglass Predictions/Updates
FD looks a little faster/quicker than Scott.

South Oldham 49 Oldham County 0
South Oldham’s defense is legit. The D-Line can put pressure on the QB and is aggressive vs the run. The linebackers are learning fast and doing very well in both pass coverage and stopping the run. DBs are fast and aggressive. They will keep South in any game they play. This defense is THE reason they are contenders more than past seasons. South’s running game is very good. All four (including QB) can take it to the house on any given play. Passing game is taking shape. They have two receivers in Bednarczyk and Garrison that can flat out play. All running backs are also good receivers out of the backfield. Coach Figg has the O-Line getting better every week. Looking for the Dragons to make another run come November!

South Oldham, What Should We Take Away From......
No one in South Oldham believes in moral victories. The program under Jamie Reed has come too far for that. Clearly the next step is making it to the state finals and, hopefully, come out with a title! Colonel Mike makes a lot of great points. The defense is solid—maybe the best in South Oldham history! With the addition of Tyrelle Love at DT they could be special. DE Luke Clarke played very well Friday night. Benson is the best athlete on the field most nights, Trey Garrison is outstanding at DB and the LB’s stepped up big time. My concern this season is the passing game. Can they pass well enough to get respect from the opposing defenses against top competition. The running game will be fine. Dynamic play makers all over. There are play makers to make the passing game work—just needs to come together. The OLine did pretty good for the first time playing together and will only get better. Very proud of those guys!

5A #7 South Oldham at 6A Eastern Predictions/Updates
South Oldham's defense should get a boost with the return of Tyrelle Love to the D-Line. He is very quick and talented and will make this strong defense even better. It will be smooth sailing for the Dragons this week!
