South Oldham 43 Central Hardin 7

Featured Replies

Congrats South Oldham Dragons, what a convincing win!

Now on Central Hardin, what happened?

HOLY WOW!!

Yikes.

This officially removes CH from any 6A chatter.

Not only that but it also doesn't do North Hardin any favors in this context.

But raises South Oldhams stock in the post season discussion.

Complete domination in this one. The Dragons simply made a statement tonight. South came out fast, and Central Hardin quickly became one-dimensional as the Bruin running game foundered early, gaining -2 yards on 10 carries in the first half. Some miscellaneous notes:

- South scored on each of its first half possessions (except the final possession that was ended by the halftime horn)

- The score was 14-0 South and CH had run only one play from scrimmage - which resulted in a fumble that led to the second South score.

- Central Hardin came into the game allowing just 136.7 yards per game rushing and only 229.6 yards total offense per game. South had 235 yards at the half on rushing alone (277 yards total). The Dragons finished with 415 yards of offense, unofficially.

- Down 28-0 at the half, the Bruins got the ball first to start the second half. They promptly went 3-and-out, but the punt was blocked by South Oldham's J.T. Benson, who also returned the blocked punt 21 yards for a TD. South went for 2, and it was 36-0 - which started the running clock - with 9:56 to go in the third.

- South finished with 16 first downs unofficially to Central's 4.

- South won the turnover battle, 2-0. Besides the fumble recovery, South ended Central's only real drive deep into Dragon territory with an Ethan Devasier interception in the second period.

- Senior Dragon fullback Keaton Martin - who already owns the school record for career TDs - added three more on runs of 1, 1, and 60 yards. He finished with 12 carries for 132 yards rushing. J.T. Benson added 5 carries for 98 yards and a TD (from 63 yards). The Dragons as a team finished with 38 carries for 364 yards on the ground.

- South didn't need the passing game, but quarterbacks Anthony Pierce and Alex Brown combined to go 5 for 5 for 51 yards.

- Gabriel Ramirez kept CH from being shutout with a 45 yard TD run on the final play of the third quarter.

- the 43 points was the most Central Hardin had allowed in a game this season.

- unofficially, we had Central Hardin with just 31 yards rushing on 15 carries and 87 yards on passing of 6-11-1. Total offense: 118 yards.

- Central Hardin began having some success throwing the ball, with Gavin George catching three passes in the first half, but the CH star receiver failed to catch a single pass in the second half.

South improves to 9-1 on the season with their ninth consecutive win.

Central falls to 8-2 with their second consecutive loss to a ranked team.

The vaunted CH offense has vanished into thin air the past two weeks.

Competition jumped up.

Realistically, what are South Oldhams chances at winning the state title?

Personal opinion, but I think anyone in the top 6 at least can realistically win it.

Obviously Cov Cath and Douglass are favorites, but I really think that SC, BG, SO, SW all have a chance.

Slim and none.

In 5A? I disagree.

A win over Central Hardin (as dominate as it was) does not have me jumping on the Dragon Wagon.

There are too many good teams at the top of 5A.
