  1. It is cool (except it looks like the ball is ready to pop out). Either way, that's impressive!
  2. Of course they're playing to win. But if they don't win, hopefully the game proved valuable to them down the road and they remain healthy.
  3. Goals for tomorrow night: 1. Assess weaknesses 2. Stay healthy 3. Have some fun in a "foreign" environment
  4. That's amazing! For the uninformed, when did she start playing Varsity?
  5. No Crazies. Week night game an hour away - they're nuts, but not that nuts.
  6. No question Urban is the closer. But, I think the Coombs hire helped Urban identify the talent he wants in Cincinnati. In other words, Coombs's local network has to help. When you have national recruiting vision like Urban does, you need foot soldiers to help cull the herd. I believe Coombs does that in this area. I also forgot about the Marshall kid out of Middletown - year before Hubbard. Made some big plays after Dontre Wilson went down.
  7. The Freshman Ryle rushing attack this past season was incredible.
  8. Unfortunately, the Boone program seems to be a dumpster fire. Hopefully, Wirth lands on his feet somewhere soon.
  9. Looks like Kerry Coombs (sp?) is making a difference in Cincy recruiting for TOSU. Smart hire by Urban Meyer. Hubbard, Hilliard and Hausmann in successive years. Pretty impressive "gets" out of a town that hasn't historically embraced the program like the rest of OH. Thanks Clyde.
  10. The answer to the thread question? It depends on the coach. Yes, money and benefits is an issue. It would be difficult, I think, to lure an established public school coach to Park Hills. The economics just don't make sense. Your best bets are to find one of the following: a proven coach at a private school that is committed to the mission/philosophy of a Catholic education, an "up and comer" from the public schools looking to establish a name, or an independently wealthy individual that doesn't give a rip about dough or has an alternate source of income and benefits. As a CCH fan, I don't like the middle option, as that probably leads to turnover once success is achieved. In terms of dealing with the parents, I do think it's tougher at private schools. This is also related to economics. The more financial "skin" someone has in the game, the more entitled they feel. This is not an absolute statement, but it is true for a vocal minority. I wish this was not the case - money (tuition or donations) should not be given with strings attached, but some don't see it that way. Again, it's a minority, but IMO, it happens more often in a private school setting. The unfortunate truth is, you need to win and win big to buy yourself some time. We live in a fast food society - we want instant gratification. The next coach needs supreme self-confidence in his ability and his plan, as well as some time from the administration to establish his program. I believe in Bob Rowe - he gets it. I hope he can find the right guy.
  11. They'd have to switch to natural turf for Dudley - fire truck watering not as effective on the artificial stuff.
  12. Bad deal - his son played at Highlands until this past season, right? A shame he missed out on a ring, given this news.
  13. Fair to say NCC is team to beat? Or is JV level too unpredictable?
  14. Urban himself was at least a two sport star in HS. Played DB at UC and was drafted and I believe played a little in the Braves organization.
  15. This fits into Urban Meyer's "competitive excellence" philosophy. He wants kids used to competing - the more sports they play, the more direct competition they are exposed to. Yes I know that offseason conditioning is a means of competing, but hopefully folks understand my point.
  16. The heck with "those folks" - he, or a guy just like him, would be PERFECT!!!
  17. If I'm not mistaken, a player is draft eligible after every year of JUCO. Hence, a lot of quality players choose this route, especially if they were drafted in the 35th+ round out of HS. This certainly adds to the quality of some of the JUCO programs in the U.S.
  18. Walter won't be happy when he sees your rankings and probably with good reason. You have omitted his Holmes bulldogs. Holmes has won 11 in a row with an early loss to Henry Clay by 12 and 2 other losses to Ballard by 12 and Bullitt East by 2 in the King of the Bluegrass. I guess this week will tell more about them as they go on the road to Mason Co. tomorrow and then play CCH on the road Friday and travel to Montgomery Co. to play Trinty in the Joe B. Hall classic Saturday afternoon. I believe the Holmes/CCH game is being played on a neutral floor - Bank of KY Center.
  19. Doesn't look good for CCH, but that's why you line up and play. Regardless, it's a good test for the Colonels. Some attribute the Colonels' exhibited toughness against NCC this past Friday to the prior game played against Moeller. Don't know if I completely buy that, but, playing a top OH team in Wilmington can only help, barring injuries.
