  1. Are they on New Cath's side of the District bracket?
  2. In football, I was fortunate enough to be a on a NKY Freshman championship team and a State Championship team. Unfortunately, lost one year on a 4th & Goal play in OT in the playoffs. I'll forever believe that our RB got in the end zone, but the officials didn't see it that way. Frankly, it never should have come down to that play. On the baseball side, won one District title, but suffered two 1-0 first round defeats in the 9th Region tourney. Also lost in the Knothole City championship game one year on a runner's interference call that negated the tying run. It's funny, I don't remember much about the championships, but I sure remember a lot about those losses. I don't know if I'll ever get completely over them.
  3. St. Pius 6th over Guardian Angels tonight 50-44 in the first round of the St. Agnes tourney. Fun, up and down the court game. Saw Turners 8th Grade team beat Our Lady of Victory in the game before by about 10. Houston from Woodland looked really strong.
  4. I know the outcome, but, any score or details on the CCH/NCC semi-final?
  5. Ken C can flat out coach - so can Scott Ruthsatz. Dixie flat out whipped CCH last night, regardless of coaching. My guess is Coach Ruthsatz is working very hard to address the weaknesses exposed last night (i.e. wouldn't want to be at CCH practice this morning - I'm sure it wasn't pretty). Hopefully, they'll meet again in the 9th - would LOVE to see the adjustments made on both sides.
  6. Thanks for the update. Any stats? Simply coincidental, but interesting timing re: this matchup, given Dixie's decisive varsity victory last night.
  7. Congrats to Summit View. Correction on the All Tournament team - for SPX - that's Michael Mayer. AJ is a Freshman a t CCH.
  8. In all sincerity, why make this comment? What is the point?
  9. They have allowed 30 or more points 8 times. Three of those games, the opponent scored 30 exactly.
  10. CVH is at 857 as a Colonel, well over 1,000 as a high school player. At present scoring avg, he'd need another 9 games to hit 1,000 this year, as a CCH player.
  11. Will be interesting to watch Coach Eviston develop the CCH QBs.
  12. No, that is Maggie Smith. There is a Ruthsatz girl in the 5th Grade.
  13. The '91 game was a semi-final, right?
  14. Ironic that his name pops up the week that Dean Smith and Tark pass. Dean was the coach of his biggest rival and arguably, Tark was the opposing coach of the game that resulted in his biggest win! PS - Jedi mind trick - the game in '92 didn't happen...
  15. Wilson graduated in 1991. Three year starter at Safety for Miami (OH). I am a biased classmate, but no one did more, in terms of pure offensive versatility at CCH, than David Wilson. And, he was a heck of a defensive player to boot. IMHO, he is the best all around football player in school history. Or, at least the best all around "skill position" player - and I hate that term because all positions require skill. Fully understanding that the days of the two way player are all but over, not sure we'll ever see another one like him.
  16. Yes, close enough if not exact. Pulled away in 4Q. Ruthsatz continues to impress with halftime adjustments. Held Cooper to 8 3Q points and evened up what was a lopsided rebounding margin at half. Granted, the boys on the floor did it, but they continue to show very well coming out of halftime.
  17. You are referring to Roy Wiliams. He inherited May, McCants and Felton after their Freshman year. He helped them win a title two years later. What was he supposed to do - kick all of the players off the team when he took the job and start over? Come on - Roy Williams is also a great coach. But, this thread is about Coach Smith - Roy Williams is just another example of his incredible legacy.
  18. 6th Grade Boys - SPX over Camp Ernst by 3 @ Grant Co. They now have Conner Wednesday - Conner dominated the first two contests - I look for the same Wednesday.
  19. Roy has won 2 national titles since becoming UNC's head coach. My point re: Dean is that no one gave him anything. He recruited the athletes, coached the athletes and won and lost with the athletes. He won far more often than he lost. Therefore, I think your comment is unfair, let alone inappropriate, considering the circumstances.
  20. Ram - I understand where you're coming from. But, what's most dangerous to other teams is beating them. I hope that's where this goes. But, I do like the hire, as I am a fan of young, energetic minds. I think they connect better with high school student athletes. I hope this is the beginning of something fun. But at this point, it's just hope.
  21. 11 Final Fours, 879 wins. From 1981-1993, his teams finished no worse than the Sweet 16 - that would be 13 consecutive years! He helped integrate the ACC, he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, an Olympic Gold Medal and too many ACC titles to count. Coach K won't come out and say it, but a lot of what Duke does has Dean Smith traits. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Dean Smith was an amazing coach and an amazing man. None of those recruits were handed to him - he went out and got them all. So, the comment of doing so little with so much is not accurate and not fair. When UNC beat Georgetown in '82, shortly after the game, after getting the "can't win the big one" monkey off his back, Dean said (paraphrasing)..."I don't feel like I'm any better a coach now than I was two hours ago." Yes, he wanted to win, but he also had perspective. UKfan1977 - you need a little perspective.
