Without knowing much background of Brossart or how it would play with the community, I’d give my endorsement to Ed Smart if he wants the job. You’d have an entire part of the state that would tell you that you all smoked that hire if it ended up coming to fruition. Best of luck, regardless!

I feel like finishing the year as an employee for the school district wouldn’t be in the cards if there was more to the story, or if they were sweeping something egregious under the rug, no? If there’s no underlying purpose other than wins or losses to Logan Co or any other games for that matter… what a ridiculous move by the admin. Good luck to the replacement, whoever it might be. I think Russellville has tied their hands behind their back in terms of the coaching search though. What established, or heck, even first time HC can look at this objectively and say “boy I’d love to work there!” while weighing the facts of how they just treated one of their own who brought them success?

In this day and age, simply upsetting the wrong parent can lead to a dismissal. I loathe how much power supposed “adults in the room” have at times.

The administration relieved Coach Benton of his duties as HC, apparently. Best of luck to Coach Benton going forward. Can’t speak for anyone but myself but this was surprising to me.

BGHS has a lot of questions to answer personnel wise before they should be considered an early favorite. I think they will be better than 4-6 in the regular season, but beyond that, their youth needs to grow up a bit in to their own. I’m not sure 2026 is the year that happens, but will remain hopeful.

@Brown I’m leaning towards O being the top team in the class by a firm margin over the thought that those two are close. I respect Pulaski, and Coach Burns has done a great job. Just feel it’ll be too much. The big question for me is how would Apollo do against Pulaski County? ?

Disagree there, BG too experienced to use that as an excuse. Plus takes away credit from Atherton. One thing I know forsure is that the Ravens were much better than Bowling Green last week. This was the third team in the last 25 years in BG to have a losing record I believe. Do with that information what you will.

Bowling Green was simply not a very good football team this year. Using them as a barometer may not yield you much of a conclusion on how good a team is.

Not really referencing the RC in particular. Just a matter of Owensboro simply being a better team than them. This has happened before, yanno? WC a few years ago had an undefeated team. Ran through their schedule. Everyone was super high on them.. Met South Warren in the semis and got clocked in the first half. I was just skeptical.

I’m really just not as surprised. Never bought in to the Woodford being the favorite ordeal.

Definitely not at the skill positions. Carothers is a different kind of QB than Atwell. I will say their offensive line play is pretty solid and they have backs who play hard. Defensively is in the eye of the beholder. Beechwood wins by a few possessions if I had to guess.

As I reflect on the game last night, I’m of the opinion that was the most thorough beating that Bowling Green has taken in quite some time. I can’t recall the last time that I watched a Purples team get consistently whipped up front like they were for the majority of the year. The way Atherton dominated on the ground was a microcosm of the entire season. BGHS looked soft, and they paid the price for it. They deserve immense credit. Offensively, Briscoe and Hobbs are elite level talents but if you ask me the most impressive player last night had to be Grundy. I’ll also say that if Atherton doesn’t have three turnovers and 100 yards in penalties this could’ve likely been worse and that is hard to imagine but it’s the truth. Defensively, they made Anthony Davis look like a freshman. Which I knew there were going to be some tough moments for him when you consider the level of competition, but sheesh, he really got the bare minimum amount of support to try and remedy situations. To close, the Purples will be back, I don’t know if it will be next year because they lose quite a bit. I also don’t know who BG has to throw the ball to in 2026. A lot of questions going forward that will need to be answered. This is the KY HS football cycle though, you’re on top of the mountain for a few years and then you naturally pull back to the pack and get humbled. It happens - but the way this humbling took place, along with the results from the season, it was simply tough to watch. I trust Mark Spader, because he has given fans and players every reason to do so. Winning has and will always be hard, don’t take it for granted! Congratulations to the Ravens and good luck going forward. Go Purples!

The score is very much indicative of how the game has gone. Atherton has quality skill guys, but they are winning up front on both sides. I can see this getting to a running clock quickly if they are consistent with this. They deserve credit.

Bowling Green opponents: 93-45 BG beat 1 team with a winning record (7-5 Greenwood). Atherton opponents: 51-85 Atherton beat 1 team with a winning record (10-2 South Oldham).
