The administration relieved Coach Benton of his duties as HC, apparently. 
 

Best of luck to Coach Benton going forward. Can’t speak for anyone but myself but this was surprising to me. 

In 8 years under Coach Benton, the Panthers:

Won the Region and finished State-Runner-up in 2021

Won the District Championship in 2025, 2024, and 2021

Won 6 playoff games. 

Prior to being let go, Russellville won 5 of its last 6 games under Coach Benton.

Weird.

Coach Benton was on our podcast this fall. He was impressive and I really liked him. Disappointed and surprised to see this has happened. 

I know nothing about this situation. But I could imagine Logan County being historically good, by their programs standards, adds more pressure to the RHS job.

Did he ruffle feathers with somebody? I highly doubt this is a football performance based decision, at the 1A level dealing with such small class sizes that rarely is the case and his first few years Russellville was very very bad and they allowed him to grow out of it. 
This has the smell of him upsetting someone in power or maybe an in the school classroom issue rather than a football decision.

I agree has to be an issue other than football. Last year he won district and beat the teams he was suppose to beat. Year before he won district and won a first round playoffs game, which is big IMO considering the teams in district 2.

 In this day and age, simply upsetting the wrong parent can lead to a dismissal. I loathe how much power supposed “adults in the room” have at times. 

There has to be more to this story behind the scenes, doesn't it?

I mean wanting to be the head coach at a school is many times half the battle in smaller classification, smaller rural communities especially.

I think Ordell's Logan County comment may be very relevant if someone from the "Central Office" is taking a long-term ribbing regarding wins and losses to their rival.  Who knows really.

But I'm not sure there will be a better resume than Coach Benton's knocking on Russellville's door.  That is the real problem, and the clock is ticking as football never stops.

They must have an established HC in mind who will take this job, right? I agree at small schools seems you either have to find someone with ties to community, or it is a person trying to be HC for the first time. Would they have let Benton go for a first time HC?

Letting go of your early 30's year old, alumni, former SEC football player, state championship appearing, 8 year tenured head coach who seemingly had no plans of coaching anywhere else, at tiny 1A Russellville  is absolutely horrendous and unless there is MASSIVE misconduct being swept under the rug, Russellville should be ashamed of themselves. The man schedules some of the best teams in the area and seemingly gets fired for not winning enough??

I don't have any insights into the Russellville job but when I learned about it this is almost exactly what came to mind.

If there’s no underlying purpose other than wins or losses to Logan Co or any other games for that matter… what a ridiculous move by the admin. Good luck to the replacement, whoever it might be. I think Russellville has tied their hands behind their back in terms of the coaching search though. What established, or heck, even first time HC can look at this objectively and say “boy I’d love to work there!”  while weighing the facts of how they just treated one of their own who brought them success?

It may depend on if the issue is specifically football related or more broad in scope.
