IMO West was the difference defensively. She pretty much locked down Kennedy, contesting most of her shots. Wtown's big Taylor went out of the game with an injury but the contest was pretty much decided by then. The district game between GC & Walton-Verona in January now becomes very interesting. I know its premature to assume SK will be the top seed for the district. But if I'm right then GC & WV will slug it out for a trip to the 8th region tourney as the 2/3 seeds. GC is a tough matchup for WV because of their size. They get after you defensively. If they make good decisions and shoot like they did last night WV will have their hands full.

This one was never in doubt. Grant grabbed a double-digit lead in the first half and never let go. Abby West with the stellar defensive effort.

The difference between the two in this one was the ability to handle pressure. HHS doesn't wow you with size or speed. But they have solid players who move the ball and shoot/make open shots. WV was shaky handling the ball and did not attack the basket enough. Too much dribbling around the 3 point line looking to hand the ball off instead of attacking gaps in the HHS defense. WV played hard and slowed the pace to keep it close for most of the game. They should improve as the season goes along.

Sources tell me his adoptive parents are from Grant County. His older sister was hired at the Ark Encounter. His adoptive aunt teaches at Williamstown. His adoptive parents are currently in Haiti doing mission work so he moved down from Indiana to be close to family while they are away.

It was very entertaining. You don't see games like it much anymore. Love the drama created when David uses the only stone it has to try and take down a Goliath. The final score of the best game I ever witnessed was 35-33 with 3OT's. 1983 State final Carlisle Co. v. Henry Clay. Every possession of that game meant something. Introduce a shot-clock in high school and there is no point to even schedule many of the games because of the uneven distribution of talent between schools from year to year. A shot clock is good for the NBA/NCAA product because the talent between teams is comparable and teams get to choose their players. IMO it would ruin high school basketball, making many of the games pointless to watch.

At Williamstown. Score was 14-13 Walton at half. Walton came out in a diamond and one on Stanley. Harden had his team hold it to bring Walton out of it, hence the low score. Walton outscored Williamstown 27-12 in second half. Williamstown went cold in the 4th scoring only one field goal.

Harden gets more out of his kids than anyone I've seen coach in this area. He has had to play middle school kids and has no height when compared to the rest of the teams in his district. Very surprised a larger school hasn't come calling. Not disparaging the Williamstown kids but I'd like to see what he could do at a large school that has numbers.

Anyone have a list of teams and a game schedule for Ludlow's camp this week? I believe it starts today with games going through Friday.

If they want to build a fan base for their product among young people then it has to be affordable and fun. $13 for an upper arena ticket? Please. That price doesn't entice many high school age kids to ditch class with their friends in favor of a trip to Rupp. Not that I condone that type of thing.

I agree with you and sportsmaniac on the cost. Totally out of hand for the product being presented. Also there just are not any players that people want to come see. Rare to see an elite D1 prospect play in the tourney anymore. Hard to draw in casual fans if you don't have players that capture the public's interest ala Rex Chapman, Allan Houston, Richie Farmer. Back in the 80's most of the tournaments featured players that were being recruited by UK or U of L. Doesn't happen very often anymore. KHSAA can't do much about that. I think the main reason the 2013 tourney was well-attended was due to the buzz of Calipari coming to watch Hawkins, not to mention you had players such as Bolden and Justice in the mix. This year Bolden's team didn't make it and Justice's team was put out early.

Anyone seen the Morris kid from Bell play? I assume her and Boley from E-town are the top two players in the tourney. Can she carry Bell through the top bracket?

You are right....it ends with some of the people on here squaring off with each other at these games and going to jail. Anonymity allows everyone to express their opinion freely without threat of any physical altercations. I'd rather be interrogated by Jihadi John than post my real name on here.

I have no dog in this and am not supporting onceuponatime's observations about the game because I wasn't there. But I do think those who coach and/or have a kid who plays and make posts to this board should get over themselves. If you can't handle what people have to say about your team or a player on your team then maybe you shouldn't participate. This is a discussion board. Not everyone is going to give positive feedback on your team or kid. It would be a pretty dull place to discuss this great sport if that were the case.

Agreed. It is disturbing to me the public at large seems oblivious to these privacy threats. Everyone is so mesmerized with the technology available at their finger tips they fail to realize the risks inherent in using it.

Anyone else surprised WV didn't assign Rogers to guard Neice earlier in the first half to keep her from getting off to a fast start, like they did with Williamstown and Kennedy in the district opener? Basically play a box and one, plus send a second defender at her when she gets the ball to force her to give it up. Neice makes them go as a team. Keep her contained and SK would have a more difficult time scoring.

Jump was the game leading scorer with 30 and Stanley added 21. Unfortunately Williamstown still has some growing up to do underneath. SK was just too big and strong inside. It was not a bad showing for a class A going against a 5 or 6A. Agree with your comments, Williamstown has a bright future.

Everything you say is valid and I'm sure accurately describes their season to this point. Every team out there goes through some combination of learning curves/ups and downs (whatever you want to call them), personnel changes, and injuries. But athleticism, the ability to make plays, usually wins out. Walton has a nice team (will probably make the regional) but has a ceiling for how good they can be due to the lack of athleticism. I'll grant it may not be the cause for the learning curves as you call them but it will be what keeps them from advancing in the post season.

Appreciate that. Would love to hear your opinion on the causes of their ups and downs since my observation is not fully accurate.

I can understand your frustration. Most kids don't understand the importance of valuing the basketball and playing within yourself. The successful teams do.
