Big kids who have really improved. I like Justice so much as a coach. Key is keeping their big guys out of foul trouble. They try to block everything and don't seem to want to keep their hands straight. Good team at JBS. Knott has a big challenge. So does Hazard.

District play begins with these two teams opening District play in Jenkins. June Buchanon is definitely a contender for the 14th Region Championship. The same could be said for another opening round game with Hazard meeting region favorite Perry Central. Knott Central has won four region titles in a row but hardly anyone gives them a shot this year. Anything that could go wrong has in Hindman. They graduated four notable senior in Justice, Hall, Christon, and Cornett. Shrum was lost after a 2nd knee injury; Dalton Cornett quit basketball to focus on baseball. 6'6 freshman left the team a few weeks ago, and just last week Landon Noble left the team. The biggest loss was Austin Combs who broke his foot and missed two months with a broken foot. Last night Knott beat visiting Rowan County with a ten point comeback, with Austin Combs scoring 23 points, and the game winning shot. If you want to watch a great opening round game, the 14th has 2 great games.

I'm still trying to figure out why the benches are on the ends. When we played in the Hindman gym many years ago we sat on the bottom row of the bleachers. I just don't understand why they decided to bring Vandy to Knott County. Are they honoring Cam? LOL

Worst officiated game I have watched in a long time. Not one way or the other, both ways. Knott was handled by Letcher and with no rhyme or reason why some calls were made. Lucky that the game didn't get out of hand. 13th Region Refs

First thing that came to mine was Knott County last year traveling from Myrtle Beach to Muhl to play after 4 games in 5 days. This Taylor County team came from Bristol Tennessee all the way back to Western KY. Nothing left, I presume.

When the bright lights go up this Montgomery team tries to win the game from 3 land. You can't win games against really good teams and live and die with the 3.

Austin Combs, Knott County Central point guard, was injured and in the hospital from an auto accident. I have two pics but don't know how to post them.

As a senior I played my home games, while attending Knott County High, in that Hindman gym. I intend on watching a game or two this season. Good luck to the Lions. I can forsee some real exciting games there this season.

I listened to this game on the radio tonight. Knott controlled the 1st & 3rd quarter, Hazard the second. Austin Combs had, I believe, 5 points at half time. According to the announcers the pep section gave him a little grief, he took it personal, and went to war. I think he ended up with 17 or 18 in the second half. Gannon Couch, one of the freshman twins, chipped in with 15.

I watched a game there a few years ago. There were five division one players on the field that night. The thing I found to be amazing was the structure of the stadium. You could not go from one side of the field to the other. A fence divided the seating sections.

I recently stopped in Ashland to eat breakfast with Jeff's dad. Dad isn't quite as intense as son. I think South Laurel will be good this season.

I am sure Russell will make a very good pro. I just don't understand why he didn't choose to play at Louisville. Ohio State didn't give him much support which he should have been able to see in advance. Like many players in the pros, will the situation allow him to show how excellent he really is. And furthermore, will his greatness make his team better. The quality of a player is finalized in how many wins he can lead his team to.

I don't usually have too much to say about things like this. Congrats to Camron Justice on being Player of the Year. However, Evan Hall is not even Honorable Mention. I would like to remind you that Evan was MVP in the Kentucky-Ohio All Star Game. He was also selected to the Kentucky-Indiana All Star team. He signed a Division 1 scholarship with IUPUI. Am I missing something or am I simply asleep at the wheel?

I expect Knott to be really good by the end of the season. I don't expect them to win at the rate they have over the past four years. They are going to have fairly decent size and will be good set shooters. However, they may have issues with defending off the dribble, rebounding, and scoring off the dribble. They may live and die with three point shooting. They sorta remind me of the Montgomery County team of last year. They will look unbeatable on nights when they shoot the ball really well and look very beatable on the nights when they rely to heavily on jump shots. Knott has three really young kids who will need to improve quickly, how quickly will be the question. The Couch twins have that pedigree and the center, Camron Jones, will have a lot of learning to do. The team should be solid with returning players Combs, Caudill, and Shrum. Shrum comes back from his second knee surgery so one never knows how flexible he is going to be. June will give us Knott fans some idea of how B.B. intends to play. I fully expect him to play the young kids a lot so they have a chance to learn from their mistakes. I see them going 18-12 for the season. And yes, I expect B.B. to be the coach. I've not heard anything contrary to this.

Looking forward to watching Knott's new team in June. I just heard two of the starters won AAU championships for 15 & 16 year old. Way to go Isaac Caudill and Austin Combs!

Question for Wireman? Last season the teams in Cordia's district didn't have to play Cordia. Since Cordia is still on probabtion from tournament play, will the teams in the district be required to play them this year?

Perry has a really good group of young kids. Not a Beverly but they will be good.

I heard today that Malcolm Evans, out of Mississippi, was transferring to Shelby Valley. Has anyone else heard this? Confirm, deny?

Real good kid who plays for Letcher Central. He will be a junior next season. It is my understanding that Letcher has a real good seventh and eighth grade group of kids but he'll graduate before they get there to help him.

I know nothing about his football abilities. To be quite frank after watching him play in the KY Ohio All Star game I checked the football roster had his school to see if he played. I left the basketball game thinking to myself. This Simmons kid could be a killer safety-linebacker. He is a very physically talented player. He doesn't know how good he can be.

Congrats to all the kids that were chosen. I don't know much about the kids but I can tell you that I really like Eljay Cowherd's game. He really impressed me in the Ky-Ohio All Star Game with his ability to beat his defender off the dribble and dish to other players for easy baskets. I plan on attending the game.

I want to tell you about Simon Christon, the character he has and the ability to be successful in life. In all my years being around high school and college athletes he best illustrates the kind of person that any university will be happy to have him represent. If there is a finer young man I want to meet him. 10 years from now we will be talking about Simon and the leadership he is providing the state of Kentucky. He is headed to the big time in the game of life.

News out of Knott County today says that Simon Christon is also going to Transy.
