What does he teach? Tommy Johnson isn't leaving as a teacher and FCPS is cutting A LOT of positions. You don't coach in FCPS and do nothing as a teacher. Especially at a priority school like Bryan Station. That's a tough adjustment if he is used to just coaching and not teaching a full load.

Winning the All A 11th region is not as difficult as it is in other places. There's only 5 schools- Sayre, LCA, Frankfort, Model, Berea. None of which are ever really factors in GBB.

They are playing only a JV schedule in 2018. I can't imagine they will ever be considered among the best in Lexington. Only 250 kids in the high school as it is and over $20,000 to attend.

From the attendance side of things, it looks like the general public isn't doing their part either. Where is the KY home game held? Bellarmine? Transy? If you want the kids to think this is a big time event, people need to show up big time. Maybe its a chicken and egg type thing. Maybe if the best kids participate, then attendance will be better. But it looks like that's not going to happen so fans of high school basketball need to step up and show them the importance. I'm afraid it's going to go the way of the Derby Festival game if it doesn't get better. The hosts can only absorb losses in revenue for so long.

Playing for the Lakers is a pretty good gig. Not an all-star, but if that's your measuring stick for success then a lot people lead pretty disappointing lives. Montverde is nice because it's all basketball all the time. Not really a limit on the number of games. They make sure you are eating right, training right. They have a good track record for sure.

Make sure Wandale Robinson doesn't end up somewhere else first.

I can see it if you know their pay for basketball coaches. Remember, this is the same school district as Madison Central. I believe they get something like 50 extended days on top of a stipend. For most teachers that works out to like $225 per day. Doing the math that is over $11,000 in addition to probably another $10,000 in stipend. I've always said that the best gig in central KY is the girls coach at Madison Southern. They get the same pay as boys without nearly the pressure.

The academic standards to be eligible according to KHSAA is pretty low, really. You just have to be passing 4 hours of the 6 hour school day. That could be all D's. Academic standards to be eligible as a freshman in D1 are higher. They take ACT into account as well.

I don't understand your logic. You gave three reasons why it shouldn't be him but your names don't meet those either. Not on a top 20 team- The last poll had Mercer in the top 20 Didn't take his team to Rupp- Kunkle didn't do that either "Just" going to NKU- I wouldn't consider St. Louis or Belmont much better destinations right now. Scrubb has 1 D1 offer that we know of from WKU and I believe from an article I read he may not even be eligible for D1 next year. I agree that we have lots of deserving kids out there this year. Your opinion on the ones you think are more deserving is fine, but the logic contradicts itself

The new school doesn't open till 2019-2020. Most returners are juniors so they will be gone by the time the new school opens. Funny how the timing worked out...

Enough with the Spencer County talk taking over this thread. Until they make a region, no sense in talking about them. I can promise you that the Shelby job is open. I don't know about all the "job postings" or Internet hackers or any of that. Who do we think will put their name in the hat for this job? Who should Shelby pursue? Would Holland come back? Would Bryan Hyatt ever get tired of waiting on Anderson and come to Shelby? Would they go after a coach leaving a Jefferson Co program(KCD)? Would they think about going after AAU guys? There have to be quality coaches(head and asst) that will put in for this job.

Uninformed? About what? Is Conley not the best player? Would Spencer be good without Conley? Inform me about that please. The 5'6" PG is not getting it done without Conley or the players who just graduated. As for your history research, I conducted some. Spencer Co went to the region in 1998 and then again in 2011. 2018 minus 1998 is 20. In those 20 years, Spencer Co has been to the region once. Therefore, they go once every 20 years. Is that the kind of history research you were looking for?

It is true that Spencer only has 1 kid from Shelby. However, that 1 kid is BY FAR Spencer's best player. Take him off od Spencer Co and they are the same Spencer Co they've always been. 1 region every 20 years. Not to mention, those region appearances in the past prob happened when the district used to blind draw and Shelby would draw Anderson in the 1st round. Leaving Spencer to have to beat Eminence to get to the regional.

Im told that the Shelby County head coaching position is open and has been posted. This could be a very intriguing and successful job for the right coach. A lot of young talent in that program and a good crop of 8th grade talent coming in. I felt all year long that Shelby was way too loyal to their upper-classmen and should've taken the lumps with the young kids. Only 6 wins this season but 3 of them were over South Oldham, Central Hardin and Ryle. There is too much young talent on the roster at Shelby to only win 6 games. This could be a great set up for the right coach!!! Who do you think applies or who should Shelby Co go after and pursue?

All Fayette County Public Schools have a full-time trainer that's salary is divided between UK Sports Medicine and FCPS. Additionally, they all have graduate assistants that can treat and share time with the middle schools and the high schools. On football gamedays, each home team has a doctor on site.

Bryan Station has beaten them twice already this season. Madison Central definitely has their work cut out for them to win the region.

Who wins this game tonight? Can Anderson County end Spencer Co's season like they did last year? Can Spencer Co get over that hump and make it back to the region for the 1st time in a while? Can Penny take over the game? Can Coach Burns make it to his 1st Regional Tourney? Let us hear it Cardsrule, Tommy2Tone, Colonel Mike, Big Z? I say its a hard fought even game for 32 minutes and Anderson repeats last years district tournament, sending Spencer County home again.

I don't think they feel they are speaking for all football playing schools. They saw something they felt strongly about and made a proposal. At this point, that is what it is- a proposal. KHSAA doesn't have a say in whether this gets passed or not, only the member schools. If the member schools feel differently than the 8 schools in Louisville, then this is all moot. My suggestion is football coaches work with their administration and talk to them. The AD's may have made a mistake by blind-siding the coaches with the proposal, but the coaches shouldn't make the same mistake by not talking to their AD's.

Spring practice is a 15 day window to get 10 practices in. They are full contact (as long as a kid has acclimated through off-season workouts, or playing another sport). The way the rules are written now, coaches can work with kids pretty much anytime without equipment, so I think the idea of spring practice is something that will dwindle away. I know there's not a lot of value in a fraction of your kids coming to spring practice and the ones that are there may be practicing out of position in order to get anything accomplished. The offseason workouts with groups of certain positions is probably just as valuable.

The 11th region is weird. I don't necessarily think LCA is a top threat to Scott County. They may be, but they have to get past Lexington Catholic in the district. A team they've lost to twice. I know Payne is out for LC, but for whatever reason they are a good matchup with LCA. Lafayette played Scott County close two times, but got beat soundly by LCA twice. LCA is a bad matchup for Lafayette because they are so big. Bryan Station is similar. They have to get past Henry Clay, but their game with LCA seemed to show they can't compete with LCA's size. Madison Central seems to be the second best team in the region and they have the advantage of not having to worry about getting beat in the district.

Sayre isn't really just a private school option like LCA or Lexington Catholic. There are a select few that can afford to go there. Tuition for 17-18 was $22,000. That's like double LCA or Lexington Catholic. It won't be as simple as choosing A,B, or C.

The athletic complex they have out on Athens-Boonesboro Rd by I-75 is nice. Plenty of room to grow out there.
