Gallatin County's Chase O'Connor will continue his playing career at Berea College.

That is real impressive for a freshman.

Kid has great hand eye coordination. Hitting close to .400 and is 3-0 on the bump. A couple other freshman from GC that could make a lot of noise in the next couple years are Austin Stuerer and Brandon Vest.

GC improves to 2-5. Mason Wilson goes 6inn. gives up 2 for the win. Cole McCubbin with the save.

Carroll is 4-2. Scoring double digit runs in their first four games against Dayton, Trimble Co., Pendleton Co. and Walton Verona. With their 2 losses coming to Collins and Gallatin Co. GC is 1-5 with losses to Collins and Shelby Co. (home games moved to their fields because of wet field issues).Two extra inning losses to Spencer Co. (3-5 in 8). GC led 3-1, gave up 2 in top 7th and 2 more in top 8th. And to Grant Co. (1-2 in 9) was up 1-0 going into 6th. Lost to Simon Kenton 2-0. Beat Carroll 4-2. Gallatin was without 3 starters(who happen to also be their 1-3 hitters) for the Shelby and SK games. (They were on a marine biology trip). Several young guys (started 3 freshmen & 2 8th graders) stepped up and played really well.

Nolan Wilson had 3 rbi's on a couple hits. O'Connor had the other rbi.

First off let me state that i am not advocating for classification in basketball. It seems to be a pretty special thing. Only 2 other states (Hawaii and Delaware to my knowledge) that do not divide small schools and large schools into separate championships. But to think that small schools are on the same level of competition as big schools is just not applicable. The more players you have to choose from the better chance you have of having more talent at any sport. When you have to dress and sometimes start average 8th and 9th graders on varsity because you lack the numbers it is very hard to compete with the bigger schools. Don't get me wrong we occasionally have a couple talented players but the majority of the bigger schools have 6-8 if not more at the same level. Some of the time we have to start and play players that would not make the team at the majority of big schools let alone compete with them. It would be like asking Kentucky State to compete with UK. On a given day anything can happen but not happening on an everyday basis.

Seen this happen in an 8th region game once. Either it is a block or a charge. Call it one way or the other(good or bad call).

Very much an offensive foul. Thought was offensive when i saw it live.

This very well could be the best first round matchup of the region. I say Shelby by 4-5. Would not be suprised to see Shelby in the region final in round 4 against Collins.

Carson will be a load to handle for South Oldham or for any team in the region. Owen will find a way to keep it close but i think South wins by 8-10.

Grant Co. has been playing really well since the return of Cummins. Not too many people would have gave them much of a chance after the departure of Carr, but they seem to be more well rounded in the scoring department. However with that being said i think Stone and Kidwell will be too much for them. Collins by 12-15.

Oldham by 10.

If the Sargent kid returns to form (before his injury). He could be in for a big year. Chase and Nolan along with cf Curtis Flynn have been starting since their freshman year should provide alot of leadership and should have very productive seasons.. I agree Mason will be an impact player on this team as a freshman.

My top 5 in region would be Collins, S.Oldham, Shelby Co., Anderson Co. and Simon Kenton. Oldham could be in this mix as well. Teams like Gallatin, Carroll, Owen and Walton have some nice ballplayers and could make some noise in the region, just might not not have enough hitters in the lineup when going up against quality pitching. Same could probally be said about Trimble, Henry and Grant as well.

I know Anderson County was suppose to host last year but were doing field renovations so they swapped out with South Oldham. On the khsaa website it is showing Henry County hosting this year, 2015 Shelby Co., 2016 Carroll Co. and 2017 Anderson Co. But things could have changed since then.

Besides the top 3 or so officials the only thing the 8th region officials are consistent at is being inconsistent. Over the past couple seasons they have been very subpar. I have seen quite a few poorly officiated games.

Congrats to Nate. One of the better instinctive football players that i have seen. Kid has a motor and a passion for the game.

I could see that happening, but it would still be ashame if kids were not aloud to play because 1 parent not wanting to move to a different school district.

What about the kids that have parents that live in different school districts from each other? Not everyone grows up with mom and dad under the same roof.

Spot on on the genetics. I always tell my players that i was genetically inferior. I have a big league mind and a little league body.
