per Bylaw 4 of the KHSAA that changed with the 2014-2015 school year, no student below the 7th grade could participate in Varsity athletics unless they were previously on a varsity roster.

I remember my dad telling me about the consolation games in the NCAA basketball tournament. They stopped them back in 81.

I've also heard his name in the mix for the Dunbar job.

Over the last 18 years the Trojans are 4-14 against the Scotties so that might play a pretty sizable part in it. I don't live anywhere near that area, so I am just speculating. I'm not sure if Pikeville & Pike Central played prior to 1998, but they hadn't played each other since 98 until this past season. The schools are just a few miles apart as well, similar to this situation. Results were not good for Pike Central as they lost 53-0. Pretty sure the only reason they played though is due to Centrals current coach being a former assistant @ Pikeville.

They hit the lottery when they hired Rains, word on the street is that parents had a petition to get him removed as coach. Unfortunately that school has a history of parents overstepping their bounds & creating enough friction that coaches have just given up over there. Lucas did a great job @ Station in regards to wins/losses compared to what had occurred @ that school since John Nochta stepped down as head coach to become Principal at Henry Clay. That being said, he left the program in financial turmoil & a lot of brand new uniforms & equipment went unaccounted for after he stepped down causing the school to have to replace a lot before the next season.(not saying he took them, they were basically given away) I've also heard that Manual received a large shipment of cleats that were an unapproved order from him as well & the AD is trying to unload them. (heard this from an AD I spoke to, can anyone from Manual can chime in on this to verify) Dunbar collects football coaches over there; Hensley retired from there after last school year after stepping down after 2008, Howell, Thomas & Rains are all still there currently. Lucas has some family ties to Central Kentucky if I remember correctly.

no sir. Haven't heard any info out of Hendo Co, but just have an idea of my own who they may go after there if in fact it is true that he is on his way out.

If he is I have an idea on who they would look to to replace him, but I'm not gonna open that can O' worms..................

From my sources, the new Fayette County school is being put into the same football district that is currently Scott Co., Dunbar, Henry Clay & Bryan Station. Kinda shocked that this school wont begin in 5A & swing up when they increase enrollment. If i was a betting man, I would say they are going into the 42nd in everything else to make that a 5 team district(just an obvious observation), BUT then what do we do with the new Scott Co. high school when they begin fielding athletic teams?????......I could possibly see a restructuring of some surrounding regions to retrofit some of the 11th region teams into those surrounding regions, but I could be wrong. just my 2 cents

You are not allowed to coach your son or daughter during the dead period. Case BL-24-9– What activities are permitted during the KHSAA Dead Period (Bylaw 24, Section 3)? (4) Coaches who have a son or daughter (blood or by marriage) participating may attend contests. Even with attendance allowed, this person cannot be involved in coaching the team.

I agree @NKY Bandit that $$$ played an issue. Jayne Stadium still needs to be updated, but they do have a new playing surface that is as good as any other artificial surface. A few years back they nearly beat EKU, cant remember the score but it was within a TD if I am not mistaken. If they could have gotten over that hump I think that there would be more motivation to rejoin the OVC, but they got beat soundly the last few times by EKU.

Hated when Morehead dropped out of the OVC in football. It happened while I was a student there. I still blame President Eaglin for it. :(

JCPS AD positions are full time positions @Iam4thecats .....and well deserved. I was an AD @ one of the largest public high schools in the state for several years (not in Jefferson County) teaching a full load & doing the AD work, no extra plan periods for athletics, no extended days, etc..... If you want to feel like a 1-legged man in a rear-end-kicking contest I welcome anyone to give it a go...AND definitely not worth the stipend.

Holy cow, that's a lot of empty seats! Average attendance in any school on a regular day is always north of 92-95%

Growing up in Pike County & driving around that area before the new roads were done in the early 2000's I enjoyed all of those small school rivalries. Sad that many have disappeared with consolidation, but you can see why some of them occurred. Dorton & Virgie became Shelby Valley, Feds Creek, Millard & Elkhorn City became East Ridge, Johns Creek & Mullins became Pike Central. Belfry has remained big enough and was far enough away to avoid consolidation. Phelps is isolated as well, but that area has had a far worse time at keeping people living there & Pikeville is the city independent school. I haven't been back there in quite some time, but even with the new roads, there are many areas that take considerable time to get to within the county.

I was unaware they were building them a new school. Its amazing to look @ their enrollment numbers & they are barely over 200, the same as Paris but those schools experienced very different outcomes in regards to football records this season. Now I am not crazy enough to equate numbers to talent, as that didn't translate out to success in the school that I was at in some sports, just stating a fact.

Many times, if they cancel school due to a threat of violence, they will also cancel after school activities. "Usually" that comes with a statement to parents that if they want to keep their kids @ home that it will be excused absence. That is way above my pay grade of any position I have ever held in a school district, so I wont say what they will decide to do. School districts set up guidelines on attendance of students to participate in after school activities. KHSAA requires that any student-athlete be a full-time student at a school. Bylaws 4/5 & 14 would most closely offer insight on this, but none of the (3) mention anything about number of hours you have to be at school to participate that evening. The district that I was in wanted 1/2 day of "seat time" in order to participate. If you think about it, that could be a doctor appointment, dentist appointment, visitation or funeral, etc.........

scored (5) points in 5th grade. probably not much more in 6th or 7th that I can't confirm, but in 8th grade her scoring really increased. taken from an article on this thread: Creech averaged 21.3 points per game in the eighth grade while Richey averaged 24.3 as both an eighth-grader and freshman. Richey's numbers grew to 27.8 as a sophomore then a state-best 34.4 her junior year before capping off her career at 27 as a senior. Creech averaged 30.2 as a freshman, 34.4 as a sophomore before leading the nation with 42 per game last year. The big reason Creech has had to score more to increase Jenkins chances of winning is school size and not much depth. give the kid a break.

He will be tough to replace as a coach at Dunbar. Gave that program some stability & brought a wealth of knowledge to that team.

who was ABA/NBA from the 15th region?

Makes you wonder if it will stick. On here recently there was discussion about how few private schools there were in this state to the number of public schools & New Jersey has an even greater disparity & still went forward with this plan. Wonder what the tipping point was? Also very interesting that they are doing this for only football & wrestling. My question would be why are they picking and choosing sports or are these the only two that are being predominantly won by the private schools?
