Can OVC schools give partial football schlorships

Featured Replies

Yes. FCS schools (and NAIA/D2 as well) as a whole have that option...doesn't exist in FBS.

Can they split and give a half? I know UK cannot

As CoachJ said they can. My son was on an academic scholarship that covered his room and board. He received a "book scholarship" from the football team that was enough to cover his books while he was the long snapper at EKU the last 4 years.

See post 3. My son played for EKU the past 4 seasons. They can give partial scholarships.

FBS can only give full athletic scholarships while FCS and D2 can split scholarships.

Morehead is an OVC school for all sports except football.

And they are non-scholarship in football (though they still compete at the FCS level against scholarship-granting schools).

Hated when Morehead dropped out of the OVC in football. It happened while I was a student there. I still blame President Eaglin for it. :(

I'm sure it was a tough decision (money). The facilities (money) were needing work, the fans (money) needed motivation to attend games in the old facilities, the state had cut back funding (money). Lots of things (money) conspired to kill the (money) program.

I agree @NKY Bandit that $$$ played an issue. Jayne Stadium still needs to be updated, but they do have a new playing surface that is as good as any other artificial surface. A few years back they nearly beat EKU, cant remember the score but it was within a TD if I am not mistaken. If they could have gotten over that hump I think that there would be more motivation to rejoin the OVC, but they got beat soundly the last few times by EKU.
