  1. This is not necessarily true. You are not getting the same calibre of product from both refs. Same reason the professional painter costs more than your out of work uncle.
  2. First thing is this is the USSF scale being discussed in that comment not high school. Second is the pay in general is based on the game level being done rather than grade. So in a sense if the assignor is doing their job a 1 week grade 8 isn't getting the same games as a grade 5 (national referee candidate). Third is some tournaments do have a pay incentive for high level refs. They get a per game bonus. No club up here does this though. When I discussed this with some fellow ussf refs most thought it stupid. Those are also the refs that have no interest in upgrading though. Go figure.
  3. I see another issue with this in that some schools will want "discount" referees that are cheaper and other will only want the best and it will then become a favoritism contest. "Why did we get so and so?" "We deserve what's his name" seems like the better pay option opens up some other problem.
  4. Have you ever run in the cold. You can still sweat and have cold hands my friend. It's about keeping body temp regulated. Doesn't take away from the fact that some refs do seem to become over involved but that's a pretty thinly veiled excuse to see them as "dressing" the part.
  5. Shame the game had to end that way. I don't really see why it is the refs fault on at least three of those reds listed. You can't run on the field during a scuffle. Doesn't matter what you were trying to do. As for the other two I wasn't there to see the play so I can't speak but I'll hazard a guess that there was some bit of nastiness to earn the Reds.
  6. You would need a thousand videos of each
  7. Sure and the coaches and parents don't add anything to it either. I have heard and watched games go sideways a lot more quickly because of comments heard from outside the lines than I have from anything called or not called by the ref. Here is the real life lesson in all that and the responsibility of a coach when they see this happening though. Pull your players over that you see are getting frustrated and lay it out for them that you will not tolerate them losing their cool. That is part of coaching and parenting at the high school level especially. Know that you are not going to get the best quality referee that day and do your job to help stop the escalation and not say "well if the ref can't control it I guess we just let things play out how they will". After the game do not confront t referee, it will never help. Simply have one of the countless videos of the match sent in for review. There is never just one villain in these situations no matter what people want to believe.
  8. I hate it when the refs go out and try to get kids hurt. It's always their fault and not the players.
  9. I hate it when the refs go out and try to get the kids hurt. :meh:
  10. 1st point is you HAVE to get the ball first. 2nd you can't wipe the player out with the continuation of the tackle. That is the tackler's body causes the contact. Not the tackler got the ball and then the tackled ran into or fell over them. You cannot come in with an inherently dangerous lunge and get any player. Example with raised clear, or leg, or at an unplayable angle. Slide tackling from behind is not illegal but incredibly difficult to do legally and carries a higher risk penalty if done wrong. Those are the basic things I can think of but it is very much a you had to be there thing.
  11. If it is a triple header sometimes 4 or 430.
  12. It would be an interesting experiment.
  13. I agree with all the points your official friend made.
  14. Fair enough. The point was made quite a few posts before so easily missed.
  15. What? No of course not. The kick is taken from the spot of the foul. The spot that is chosen is usually decided by the players if this within reason.
  16. You are comparing apples and oranges. We are talking about a play where the ref has said don't move the ball, and is it where you want it? The ref in your example didn't do that. In your example I would agree that is harsh. If the player said yes it so where I want it and the ref said ok don't move it, then the player moves it, what do you want to happen?
  17. In the pros maybe but these are high school kids and in the last minutes of possibly their last game ever something that wasn't a foul earlier may be a little more nasty to them at that point.
  18. Eh I get what you're saying but what if the players start to lose their cool and stuff that was just hard play earlier is now a screaming appeal and bunch of complaining from both teams. This can escalate and cause problems
  19. That is placing the ball though. I think we are talking about situations where the players are done with the fancy spin, checking the wind, and digging out the rut in the turf. After all that and while the wall is being placed then they move the ball again.
  20. Has anyone confirmed the khsaa is tracking yellow cards and also dishing out suspensions for them? Not school based but from khsaa. I think you are living in a pipe dream if you are using this yellow card as an example of lack of consistency. How often do we see players trying to move the ball after it is set anyway?
  21. Whoa! Much more in depth than my knowledge. Sounds like someone might wear a purple badge on occasion.
  22. Correct. At least in my understanding. Which is why I speculated that the card was really for "moving" the ball. Again what I have been told is this is to prevent players from moving the ball forward once it is set or left or right to get a better angle. Not to put it back. I guess the only thing I can say is maybe ask next time before even resetting it. Just avoids any confusion. Seems excessive but sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry.
  23. It doesn't matter what happens while the ball is not in play you go back to the original kick, throw, etc. It would be like if there was a throw in but before the throw in occurs the thrower says some sort of nasty thing and gets a red. Yes they are gone but we still have the original throw because the ball was not put back in play. They cover that concept at horrible length in the ussf classes.
