CENTERREF
Can someone explain to me who's responsibility it is to schedule refs for matches. I'm still struggling to understand how two matches in one week were canceled due to no refs. Is the ref shortage that bad or is it due to scheduling girls and boys matches on the same night what gives. Or could it be refs are tired of parents treating them like third class citizens or worse and the pay just isn't worth it.
plantmanky
There are not enough refs to go around.

CENTERREF
What matches were cancelled? I heard of two from Scott and I believe one from Cooper.

Joydowntherrtside
If game times were communicated there would have been refs.
gameplayedright
I would speculate there are not enough refs due to a lack of new refs joining the NKY association and some of the existing refs have either quit or retired. Boys HS play in the fall, girls HS play in the spring, like the majority of the country does. Makes a lot sense and resolves a lot of issues. groinpull
Sounds like a coach/school competency issue to me. As someone said, if the games had been scheduled and recorded on time there would be refs there.

imsays
Games are scheduled months in advance so scheduling the week of is near impossible. The pool of refs is shrinking and the pay is less than club pay in most cases. NKY refs are supposed to cover mason county to carroll county and from the river to Owen county. I pointed out weeks ago that Scott schedule was short games and it's not like club where you can schedule the week of because most refs in club are from ohio. In Ohio all jv games are two man and a third comes in for varsity there are no triple headers. Yes soccer uses arbiter.
Oregano
Soccer does use arbiter. Most of the scheduling is done well in advance of the season. I believe the schedule is mostly done between coaches with the AD stepping in if there are issues with field availability.
