unbiasedcoach
1-0 at half. Goals by Marsh (2), O'Hara, Davis, and Seger. Not the best officiated game IMO. Cards and fouls not given on both ends when they should have been. Martin, Leffler, and Moran played well. Those 3 synced up real nicely. Leffler's speed and foot work was a handful for SK's defense, but able to maintain the shut out.
kysoccer
WV played well the first half and kept SK at a 1-0 lead. Leffler, Moran and Lawson all had chances. SK controlled the game much better than WV. They had the majority of possession the second half whereas the first half was pretty even. WV defense seems to be main problem for the team. They're unable to stop the ball to even get it up to their offense. WV only gets a few good chances a game and are unable to capitalize. Bryce o'hara seemed to be the best player for sk, but sk's central mid fielder (tall guy don't know his name) really helped set the pace for Simon Kenton. Martin for WV seemed to be the entire midfield. He had very few options besides Moran and leffler which made it tough for the team to keep any possession If Walton Verona can figure out their defense and offensive possession, they can give sk another game at districts. gameplayedright
If Walton Verona can figure out their defense and offensive possession, What in the world does this mean?
kysoccer
If Walton can fix their defense such as bad marking/positioning and work on their offensive possession rather than just kicking the ball over top of the defense. That's what it means
gameplayedright
Thanks for explaining. Sounds like WV has a LOT of work to do. Goal keeping OK?
kysoccer
Walton Verona definitely has a lot of work to do. It will be no easy task for the coach. Jake Poland is a great keeper. Got very unlucky against sk. Goals were more so defensive errors that left to "tap ins" or one on one breakaways. Most of the time WV can look to depend on him

Both with solid saves and both denied multiple 1:1 opportunities. ... tap ins, 1:1, and 2 rips upper v

Joydowntherrtside
Maybe the referees did do a bad job, but have you ever refereed?

oldgrappler
You and I, in fact all of us, have watched matches where the calls or no-calls by the refs escalate the emotions of the boys and they start "getting even". Many times this is preventable by the refs doing a better job of evenly officiating the game. Issuing cards fairly is one way to bring the emotions back down. We all know the refs are human and can and do make mistakes. It's when those mistakes begin to mount as the game goes on or when one side seems to get called for stuff not called against the other side that it gets ugly. The refs do contribute to the violence of a game in this way.

The refs do contribute to the violence of a game in this way. Sure and the coaches and parents don't add anything to it either. I have heard and watched games go sideways a lot more quickly because of comments heard from outside the lines than I have from anything called or not called by the ref. Here is the real life lesson in all that and the responsibility of a coach when they see this happening though. Pull your players over that you see are getting frustrated and lay it out for them that you will not tolerate them losing their cool. That is part of coaching and parenting at the high school level especially. Know that you are not going to get the best quality referee that day and do your job to help stop the escalation and not say "well if the ref can't control it I guess we just let things play out how they will". After the game do not confront t referee, it will never help. Simply have one of the countless videos of the match sent in for review. There is never just one villain in these situations no matter what people want to believe.
