Arguably, Highlands best run in the last 100 years. Beat Elder at the pit and beat nationally ranked Cincy St. X @ DCMS. Went to Colerain and hung tough with the Cards. Beat Trotwood Madison on their home field with at least 6 D1 legit players on their team. Might be more but those are the ones off the top of my head. Go into the season thinking Highlands is a pretender, you better call the "crow" guy and tell him,"we're going to need more crow." :lol2:

Mike Mitchell? Has played in the NFL since he was drafted in the 2nd round, number 47 as a DB. Drafted by the Oakland raiders , and played for the Carolina Panthers and is still playing for the Pittsburg Stealers. A little more on Mike. He wasn't invited to the NFL combine, but did attend Ohio U's pro day. Pre draft Mike was 6 feet one and weighed 216 lbs. His 40 yard dash time was 4.39, his vertical leap was 37 and one half inches, his broad jump was 10 feet 3 inches. He bench pressed 225 lbs for 22 reps. Like him or not, he's a pro football player and deserves the accolades that he receives.

How about Roger Walz of Highlands? I was talking to a real old man today. He was telling me that Roger was a three year starter at QB for the Birds. He won back to back state titles in 1960 and 1961. He told me Roger played for UC and UK during his college years. He couldn't remember if he went pro or not. Starred at basketball and baseball also. He also told me of Roger getting kicked out of a game for retaliating against the other teams third string player. Highlands didn't have a back up QB at that time so they had a RB handing the ball off the rest of the game without a pass.

Last time I was at T's stadium was when Quick, Dawkins and company were seniors. I got "the feel" while walking into the stadium. I don't know if it was the stadium or just knowing what my Birds were up against. Either way the stadium is top shelf and the players and fans will treat you like family. One of the best for sure. :thumb:

Serious question. How long has the baseball program been at Highlands? One hundred years for the football program, and this is the second final four for the baseball team, the last being 50 years ago.

I saw him on the football field a lot. Never seen anybody score from 2nd base on a bunt, with no errors. WOW.

I saw the ump signal "fair" and then the ball hit the back of the runners foot. They had to call it the way they did, if not, the umps would have really looked stupid. When is the Birds next game? Thanks!

Congrats to the Dirty Birds. A great team effort again. My play of the game was when Alex Veneman was on second base, the batter bunts down the third base line, 3rd baseman throws a frozen rope to 1st base. The next thing I saw was Alex sliding across the plate. The throw home was late getting there. Was that decision to go home on that play the coaches or did Alex do that on his own? Talk about speed,yikes!!
