FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Middlesboro High School Announces Promotion of Hunter Adams to Head Football Coach Middlesboro, KY — Middlesboro High School is proud to announce the promotion of Hunter Adams to Head Football Coach of the Yellow Jackets football program, effective immediately. The announcement was made by Athletic Director Ben Slusher. Coach Adams has served as the team’s Offensive Coordinator for the past seven seasons, following several years as a position coach within the program. During that time, Adams worked under legendary Head Coach Larry French and was a key member of a staff that captured three district championships and one regional championship. Over his seven-year tenure as Offensive Coordinator, Middlesboro consistently ranked among the top 10 scoring offenses in the state each season, including two years finishing No. 1 overall in scoring. Under his leadership, the program produced two record-setting quarterbacks and developed the school’s all-time leading receiver, reflecting both his offensive expertise and his ability to develop elite talent within the system. Someone who understands the history while being an essential part of its future, Adams is a fourth-generation Yellow Jacket football player and a member of the Middlesboro Sports Hall of Fame. His deep ties to the program and community are matched by an impressive football resume. Adams played collegiately at Tusculum University, the University of Kentucky, and finally finished his career at the University of Pikeville, where he later earned his bachelor’s degree. In addition to his coaching and playing credentials, Coach Adams’ commitment to Middlesboro extends beyond the field. He is married to Sally Adams, the Head Coach of the Middlesboro High School girls basketball program. Together, they have two sons, Case and Cam, and are expecting a daughter to be born in May 2026, who represent the fifth generation of Middlesboro athletes, further demonstrating the family’s commitment to the Yellow Jacket community. I heard Pendleton County was lights out from the 3 point arch. Here they hit a total of 16 three pointers in this one. You hit that many you usually don’t lose any games.

The Bearcats were hit very hard by graduation. Both offensive and defensive production from its state title team took a massive hit. The loss of 20 Seniors from last years squad will be a huge up hill battle. The Bearcats will bring back MVP Deion Davidson though. The backup fullback Nic Doster returns as well. They have Sophomore to be DJ Lawless back too to help with this rebuilding (or reload) season. They return 3 staters on the offensive side of the ball, and 3 on the defensive side. Tripp Swisher will headline the Kentucky Country Day defense from his Safety position who was 4th in tackles from last season. The Kentucky Country Day Bearcats return just over 1,028 total yards of offense from last season. The defense returns 2 of its top 7 leaders in tackles from last season and a secondary that had 5 interceptions from last season. This is from Matt Chandler per a Facebook Post. On Thursday afternoon around 1 PM I was informed by our athletic director of the decision by school administration to not renew my coaching contract beyond this year. I was told that I could resign or be given a non renewal letter by Monday December 8th. I was told that a meeting occurred that I was unaware of where some assistant coaches told the athletic director that they were not happy with the direction of the program or the way that things were handled within the program. They claimed there was a lack of opportunity for input from staff throughout the year. I was also informed that “all but 4” players on the current roster had said they would not be playing this year if I were retained. This information was allegedly obtained through contact with all the parents of the student athletes on the roster. To my knowledge, this is not true. Multiple parents have reached out saying they were never contacted by anyone to ask about their players plans going forward, and that their players were planning to come back out next year. I was encouraged to keep quiet about the circumstances surrounding my resignation in order to protect my standing within the coaching community and pursue other jobs. That became nearly impossible when inevitably word spread quickly in the community and people began to ask what was happening with myself and my family. I did not feel comfortable lying to my players or the people within a community that I have poured my heart and soul into, especially when it became clear that there was a narrative being created that I had already accepted another job prior to my resignation. I would like to be very clear on two things. Number 1 I am far from perfect. I am sure that there were situations and scenarios that, as an inexperienced head coach, I did not handle as well as I could have. With that said there was never a single day where this school, my players, and my staff was given anything less than 100% of myself and my family. Communication of any issues amongst our staff and football family was constantly encouraged and input from everyone was always asked for. If anyone had anything they felt was an issue or concern, the opportunity to address it was always there. Number 2 I did not resign for any reason other than I was encouraged to do so before word got out about the school’s plans to non-renew my contract. I didn’t want to be anywhere but Hazard. I was making and finalizing preparations for the 2026 off season early in the week, planning our community service opportunities, working on plans for our Leadership Council, and continuing work on the locker room renovations our program had fundraised for. I hope that our community, school, and players understand the level to which myself and my family committed to ensuring their success both on and off the field. I like the fight SW put up. But they missed some opportunities early in the first half. But Trinity is Trinity. I really believe we had the two best teams in this one.
