Cash Harney (QB/DB, Covington Catholic)

In his first game of the 2024 season Harney had 15 rush attempts for 131 yards (8.73 ypc) and 2 touchdowns, and he passed 18 times for 13 receptions, 184 yards and 1 touchdown, while giving up 2 INTs in the process. Despite Cov Cath's 26-20 loss to Ryle in their season opener, Harney helped captain the Colonels' offense to 375 total yards in the game, beating out Ryle offense in total yardage for the contest.

Citing Lamar Jackson as his favorite NFL player, it comes as no shock that Cash works to be every bit as dangerous running the ball as he is throwing it. In his junior season as QB1 for the Colonels he helped lead the team to the 3A semifinals with by rushing the ball on over 1/4 of their total offensive plays, and being the man to pass the ball away on another 1/4 of their of their plays. To say that a team's offense runs through their quarterback is a pretty obvious statement, but Harney likes to use his own wheels to take that statement to a whole other level.

Cash had a pretty quiet first game of the season on defense, with 2 total solo tackles in the game. Starting at safety last year for Cov Cath he had 11 solo tackles and 1 assisted tackle plus a fumble recovery. Harney's contributions on defense only help to prop up his case for Mr. Football contention as he starts his senior season.

*This will be a season long thread, serving as an extension of the BluegrassPreps Mr. Football Watchlist and focusing on individual players as opposed to the wider net of the weekly watchlist.

Cash played very well against Elder.

From the latest Mr. Football thread:

Cash Harney (QB, Covington Catholic)
⭐⭐⭐
?️ | CovCath has acquitted itself well in its 0-2 start and Harney’s played his heart out against Ryle and Elder. That's as difficult a two game start as any other Mr. ? hopeful has faced. Despite the loss last week, his 258 total yards against a GCL power elevates his standing this week.
Season so far: 24/34 (70.59%) for 358 yards and 2 touchdowns with 3 interceptions | 215 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns

After what Cash did to Boyle County last year and the year he's having this year, he's my pick.

He is not a pick for me. Good ball players. But he's not even the best QB in NKY, let alone the whole state. Cash is a great athlete and will be a solid D2/NAIA player, but I believe there are way better ball players with way more qualifications than him for Mr. Football.

Cash committed to UK!

Oh yeah definitely not. He’s going to be alright! It’s going to be a huge adjustment for him.

Adjustment? Probably playing DB I wouldn't be surprised if he earns a bunch of playing time.

It’s going to be a big adjustment for him. Prolly going to be starting at the bottom of the depth chart. He is not only competing against the current player on UK’s roster. But he’s also going to be competing against the portal. Going to work twice as hard as everybody and take full advantage of every single rep he gets.
