I agree there has to be some distinction, but with regards to this Kansas case the fact that this Adidas guy is supposedly really good friends with Bill Self. In this case the line between Adidas employee and Kansas assistant coach is pretty blurred. If this guy develops a great relationship with a recruit he’s going to be seeing him a lot because I’m sure he has almost as much access to the KU program as an assistant coach.

The difference there though is that at LSU, Arizona, and Auburn it’s assistant coaches who are alleged to have set up the payments not a Nike or UA employee like is being alleged with the Adidas guy and Kansas.

Nike invested in the schools more than the players. I’m not going to turn a blind eye and act like Nike isn’t doing stuff as well, but Nike became Nike because they tried and have largely succeeded in creating a monopoly on outfitting college athletic departments. Why would Nike need to pay more money than Adidas when the player is statistically a lot more likely to end up at a Nike school than an Adidas or Under Armour school. Adidas has to do this. They have to get players to go to Kansas and UofL because if those schools don’t make the final four there’s a good chance Adidas won’t be represented at the table. In the first 5 years of the college football playoff Nike has had 19 of the 20 schools (only exception was ND last year). For basketball there’s more diversity but not much 15/20 schools in the final 4 have been Nike schools. Nike has invested in making sure the best players go to their schools, but they’ve done it largely by maximizing their opportunities as opposed to directly making payments like is being alleged here with Kansas. You mentioned it before about Nike sort of being untouchable, but at least in America they are. The 5 largest sports in the country (NFL, NBA, MLB, College Football, and College Basketball) Nike is either the official uniform sponsor like the NFL and NBA, they dominate the market like in college, or even in MLB where Majestic is the official uniform sponsor but Nike still makes all the undershirts and non uniform apparel for the teams like the undershirts with the Nike logo on the collar that is visible when the jersey is buttoned up. Nike doesn’t really have a need to pay people the way Adidas and UA do. It’s cheaper for Adidas to try and funnel athletes to Adidas schools then it would be for them to try and outfit more schools to compete with Nike.

Nike is king without a doubt. Nike may do some “dirty” stuff by the letter of the law from the NCAA but not anywhere near the level of Adidas imo. Adidas and UA are chasing Nike. Nike/Jordan outfit well over 60+% of college programs. Nike doesn’t really have to do anything to funnel kids into their programs, because why would it matter to Nike whether the kid goes to UK, Duke, UNC, etc. Adidas has Kansas and UofL. Under Armour doesn’t even really have a college basketball power besides UCLA. If Adidas and UA want the best kids in the country to be wearing their stuff it only makes sense that they would go out of their way to make their schools more appealing.

Deuce does make a great point, Adidas is centered around a lot of this and it’s not just centered around football. It’s even worse with football recruits on the west coast.

Serious question, would you like to see UofL move away from Adidas and sign a deal with UA or Nike?

Is Harbaughs time in Ann Arbor coming to an end soon? Fans are disgusted, team is uninspired, is it inevitable? I don’t believe Michigan will fire Harbaugh, but I do believe Harbaugh may move on his own.

Regarding Peppers: The most overrated and overhyped player in the history of college football. The fact that he isn’t panning out to be anything more than just a serviceable starting safety in the league shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The guy set the rookie passing TD mark while ridiculously sitting the bench his first two games. Baker is more than solid. Andy Dalton is solid. Baker is next level.

Richard Sherman talked extensively about what makes AB so good and it has nothing to do with lateral quickness. AB is much more Larry Fitzgerald on the field than he is Ochocinco.

My biggest takeaway from this trade has nothing to do with the Browns or Giants. Pittsburgh got absolutely hosed in the AB trade. I get what happened at the end of the year with AB was a bad look for AB. The dude just flat out quit and the Steelers had to deal him. But it’s not like OBJ comes with no baggage himself. How does the top receiver in football only haul a 3rd and 5th while one of the best receivers in the game hauled a 1st, 3rd, and Peppers. I can’t imagine what’s going through the head of the Rooney’s right now but it can’t be a good night in that household.

If healthy AB is #1 in the NFL imo.

I don’t think anyone dislikes Billy Hicks because they think he’s bad to the players.

The block was clean. I guess by rule a block could have been called on 23, but that’s far from an egregious no call. He was double teamed and was doing anything he could just to get through and get up a shot. I would have swallowed that whistle as well.

There are other schools plenty big enough to host the 8th region, but there is nothing like the Roy. The history that has been made in that building, the wooden bleachers, the lighting, everything about it screams Kentucky HS basketball. Yeah it sucks to drive all the way there for 32nd district teams, but it’s worth it to be in that building. Growing up, playing in that gym would have been like playing in the Garden. Pure nostalgia.
