That could really hurt in the JV game. Took control in the JV game versus Beechwood.

Times have changed. Used to be high school play was your ticket to continuing to play at the next level and maybe even getting your education paid for. You could play multiple sports and go from one season to the next. It ain't that way anymore. I might not like it, you might not like it but that is the way it is. If the way to getting to the next level is to lift or condition for football and attend camps and forget about basketball, then I do not blame anyone for leaving a team that isn't going to be left stranded by their departure. Same way if a kid is playing JV football and decides the leave and play Fall baseball. Or the girl that leaves the JV softball to pursue club volleyball in the Spring.

NCC still looks like they are trying to find the right combo of lineups. I can tell you I have no clue which would work best. I don't know what you do with the 3 post players. They really only have 2 forwards and one was there but not dressed last night. They have a lot of perimeter players who are very quick. Not sure if you try to pair up the big guys or try to go with a 3 guard line-up. It looks like on any given night they could be really good and then then next night struggle.

Maybe if those players were Varsity starters or heck even JV starters. If a couple of football stars that were playing basketball leave the JV team bench to do baseball or even to train for football where they have a shot of playing after high school then it really is not big news.

NCC beat Bellevue by 20. This might be the most "down" year for 9th region All-A teams in quite some time. Both at the top and throughout the bracket. State contention for whatever team wins it might be a long stretch this year.

Maybe so but seems like the gap is widening? Dixie might be the only other 9th region team that has the "look" of a contender. And their best effort may have been a loss to the Camels. Lloyd has a nice team but nowhere near the Top 2. NCC maybe by year end? Other normal contenders like Conner, Ryle, Holmes, Holy Cross not a threat at this time.

I know Dixie has some nice wins and there are some other good teams, but is 9th region starting to shape up as CovCath and Cooper showdown?

I believe when Ronnie Dawn was a Frosh he played only the first half of the first JV game and had 22 points and never saw the JV team again. Guess that would be earning that Varsity spot. :banana:

Cowens had a foot problems (bad arches) that required corrective fittings in his shoes. Missed a lot of time early on in high school with that.

Never change the Pass Interference in High School. ( In fact I think you will see the NFL modify their PI rules in the next 5 years). High school refs have it hard enough without the added pressure of calling a 50 yard PI. And in the NFL it is almost guaranteed the receiver will catch the ball. In high school you can have a kid go out for a 50 yard pass untouched and he will drop it 50% of the time.

They would still have enough players. Especially with 3 Frosh starting JV all year.

Neace was a Junior playing only JV. Cain and Kelly are very good football players who both started as Sophs and will be counted on even more next year. If any of them plays Baseball also I would say basketball would definitely be the one sport to go.

No Sophs on Varsity this year so I assume there would have been 4 on JV? And don't they start 3 Frosh on JV?

If the restrictions were to be lifted there would still need to be a limit in place. Maybe a max of 2 games a year for each KHSAA member school to compete against an "Academy" school. That would keep the better KHSAA schools from scheduling 15 games a year against National Academy teams but still allow them to play a superior opponent to test themselves.

Just like the Boys, the 9th Region Girls All-A appears to be wide open this year. Potentials winners could be ................just about any team. Who is the favorite? Games are at Bellevue so factor that in.

Last 15 years it has been NewCath's as the favorite and eventual winner just about every year. This year it appears to be wide open. Potential winners could be Newport, Lloyd, NewCath, Holy Cross, St. Henry and Beechwood. And Bellevue, Dayton, Villa, Ludlow will not be heavy underdogs in any game. Would Lloyd be the favorite with the games on their floor?

Frosh final not unexpected with 3 Frosh playing JV and dressing Varsity for NCC. But JV win is a good one for HC as NCC JV has beaten some 9th region teams handily.

NCC teams in the recent past have opened the season ready to go then seem to peak again at All-A time and then hit a little lull before Districts/Regionals and then are in the mix with other teams seemingly "catching up" to them. This year will be the opposite of that in they would hope to be one of those dangerous type teams with a so-so record that come playoff time you are hoping not to draw because they have evolved since the beginning of the season. We shall see.

Way more athletic but lacking in basketball fluid-ness with not having played for 4 years. Faster and can jump higher but not the scorer of the past bigs.

If NCC ever gets to the point where they can play 2 of their 3 bigs together that is a tough matchup for any high school team. They have 3 that all bring different things to the game. Plus they do not have to worry about foul trouble.
