My advice would be to be realistic in the pursuit of play at the next level. If a D1 ride is not probable then consider a D2 school. If a D2 offer is not possible then consider a D3 bundle with academics/grants etc. but only if it males sense economically.

I understand but even then there is a world of difference between a 9-4 CovCath and any other team with a winning record on either teams schedule.

There is danger in doing any statistical comparison because I'm sure both teams could have won some games on the schedule 100-0 if they wanted to.

I'm not sure how many TDs the Beechwood first team Defense has given up in the last 9 games but it is probably 2 or less. I think NCC scored once and there may have been one more.

HC has very few Sophs and Frosh on the team. I do not think they have had a Frosh team for a few years now. Might be another 5 years before they are among the Top 10 again. Sort of like the Miami Marlins.

BTW the 1967 Dayton team was undefeated in the regular season including a win over Highlands but was upset in the playoffs before the Final

From Mike Fields: It was 50 years ago today — Nov. 26, 1966 — that Dayton High School stunned Russellville 6-2 to win the Class A football title at UK’s Stoll Field. Dayton hadn’t been to the state finals before, and it hasn’t been there since. Russellville came into the championship game undefeated (11-0) and a solid favorite to handle the Greendevils (9-3). One big reason: Russellville’s linemen outweighed Dayton’s by an average of more than 30 pounds. The Panthers’ Henry Noe and Donnie Bagget blocked a Dayton punt out of the end zone midway through the second quarter to give Russellville a 2-0 lead. Ironically, Coach Ray King’s Greendevils wound up winning the game on the same kind of play. Early in the fourth quarter Dayton’s Jerry Brooks blocked a Russellville punt — his fifth block of the season — and teammate John Fowee picked up the loose ball and returned it 8 yards for a TD. It was the second-lowest scoring game in Class A title game history. Bellevue, Dayton’s arch-rival, beat Madison 7-0 in the 1979 finals. 5

You got to remember Barnes is their best defensive player too so if you run him 35 times a game you diminish his ability to change the games on defense. And they absolutely need him to be at his best on defense.

Certainly the one common opponent would seem to favor Beechwood heavily but I would not use just that factor. If Hazard can throw the ball as well as run it that would certainly be a big factor. Stopping Beechwood will be tough. Forget the numbers against 1A schools, check out the offense they put up against NewCath and Holy Cross which were two pretty good 2A teams. To win Hazard is going to have to hold Beechwood to maybe 21 points and that is going to be difficult.

Maybe they want to work on some things. Got to remember they haven't had to do much in the last 6 games where they actually had to play in the second half.

Russellville is going to have to develop some sort of passing game. Just can't run the ball up the middle on Beechwood although you think you would be able to. They adjust.
