Coaches who have gone to the Sweet 16 in different Regions
So that's three regions for Hicks right? - 13th (?), 8th and 11th...

2013-2014 All BluegrassPreps.com 11th Region Team
Tony Martini doesn't have the stats to get noticed but he could be the most improved player on the year.

Scott County 67 Eastern 65
I believe my numbers for Trent are 2,482 career points... still nothing official from SCHS coaches yet, though.

Scott County 67 Eastern 65
It's definitely possible. He had 2,300 plus at the Toyota Classic. But for Trent to do this, it would have to include his points from 8th grade when he played varsity at Wolfe County. Don't know how schools deal with those types of situations. I had heard SCHS wasn't sure how to handle it. Either way his total is impressive.

Scott County 81 Lexington Catholic 60
16-0 run (11 points in first minute) to start this game without a doubt was the difference. Gilbert lights out (6-of-8 from three), Ware's on-ball defense of Talbott and Martini/Long rebounding equaled the perfect storm on Senior night. Don't think anybody was beating them. If the starters had played more in the second quarter, SC could have hit 60 points by half. Easily playing their best basketball right now.

Scott County 70 Trinity 65
I was not able to watch the first half of this game, but Spaulding only had one point at the break I believe. Wondering what happened there? He was a beast in the second. Just seemed to run out of time.

Or the lead Scott County took was too much.

Scott County 86 Perry County Central 78
I thought Jackson Davis was the best big man in the state, until I watched Johnson play tonight. He made a real argument in my eyes. WKU got a steal if I ever saw one. If he adds 10 pounds of lean muscle he'll be unstoppable. Billy Hicks after the game - "We've played against Julius Randle and Jahlil Okafor and aint none of them dunked on us like Johnson did tonight." Beverly was great too, but that's it for PCCHS. He made so many great passes but no one could knock down an open shot. Only two threes on the night. Meanwhile SC had four in double figures and hit 9 threes - big difference. Great game though!

You can dunk all you please until the 15 min. mark when the officials walk onto the floor.

Scott County 81 Henderson County 67 (Toyota Classic Finals)
I've watched Trent almost every game for past the two years and I can definitely say that he's developed into an even more scoring guard this year. I have his career numbers at 2,324 points. Which either way you slice it - shooter or scorer - is filling it up. SCHS only needs him to play PG about 30 % to have the most success. He literally doesn't stop moving on offense, which makes him a hard guard on the wing. When he does bring it up, though, he's shown an much-improved ability to take it on the drive. He's much more comfortable making a move and getting to the rim than he's ever been. He also shoots a high % from FT and 90% of the time he drives he'll score on a crazy contact layup, a pull back jumper or he gets fouled. The other 10 % or "questionable shots," SC will take its chances with a miss when you have the 7-footer Long and Martini inside, who has a special knack for offensive rebounds. SCHS will have the most success with Matt Murray running the point the majority of the game, then Trent taking over in last-minute situations or the fast break or when Matt is out. As for college, Trent would fit in perfectly with a long, quick, athletic team that likes to run. D1 or not, that's the system I think he could have the best career at. That way, he doesn't have be the other teams main focus (He was tripled team a few times and double a lot against Henderson), he can catch kick outs all game and shoot from the outside, and then use his ability to score around the rim or get fouled in fast break situations. In 2011-12 when SCHS was state runner-up, Gilbert was the third/fourth option with two other D1 players and a NAIA PG. He made 104 threes that year. All-around great player and fun to watch. Hard worker too. You can't get him out of the gym.

Scott County 81 Henderson County 67 (Toyota Classic Finals)
Sometimes it's easy to forget he's 15 or 16 years old. Rae seems to be just now figuring out the style of basketball HS teams play in KY. It's much different than he's used to. It's easy to get caught up in his size and think he should dominate every game - that might happen when he's a senior, but right now he's still figuring out how to play.

Scott County 56 Lafayette 52 (Toyota Classic)
Sat most of third quarter with four fouls. But managed to play the entire fourth without getting another. When he fouled out against Lafayette in the Republic Bank Classic the game changed completely.

Scott County 81 Henderson County 67 (Toyota Classic Finals)
Watched Henderson all week and they impressed. Have a lot of guys that can play. Will be surprised if they don't give their region a run for its money. But it was all SCHS in this one. Cards really never threatened. SCHS: Trent Gilbert 34 points (6-of-10 from three) Raekwon Long 21 points, 8 reb, 3 blk HC: Brady Norman - 21 points David Simmons - 19 points

After watching this game, Jackson Davis could be the best big man in the state. Kid can do it all. Quick, can jump, has strength and seems to always be around the ball. His ability to shoot this year has improved his game and made him a serious guard at any spot on the floor. But he didn't get much help tonight. Trent Gilbert was forced to play more of a point guard role with SCHS' starter out, but the kid showed some toughness - got a wayward elbow to the face in the second quarter and knocked out a tooth. Came back in soon after and hit a deep three, which seemed to jump start his night. It's clear, though, that SC is not the same without Martini. He's the glue guy if there'd ever be a definition of one. I'm glad that I'll be watching a lot of 11th Region hoops coming up. I agree that it should be a wild ride.

Associated Press All State Team
Personally, I nominated five Scott County High School players (the team I cover) and no one else. Have no clue who nominated the rest. When I sent my nominations in, there were already a majority of these players on the list. From my understanding only 15 media outlets voted...

Scott County 92 Jackson County 70
Scott County (3-1) wins it 92-70 over the Generals (3-3) in the Hilton Garden Classic. Trent Gilbert led all scorers with 32 points. Gilbert has now scored 132 points (including 40 against Ballard) in just four games. 33 ppg average. Raekwon Long added 25 points for the Cardinals. Jordan Fox led Jackson Co. with 24 points. A real nice player!

"The Fumble"
Game was tied at 14-14. Would have given Meade the lead, not padded it.
