PurplePride92 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I thought I saw on twitter that it was 33-11 at one point or something like that. 16-0 run to start the game????
JokersWild24 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 18 straight wins for Scott County. They are rolling and undoubtedly have the label of team to beat going into the region right now given this game, their victory over Trinity last week, and Trinity's beating Lafayette tonight.
tcjkbt Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Maybe the Cardinals can piggyback a basketball championship onto their football crown.

JokersWild24 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Scoring for Scott County looks much more balanced than it usually does. I think there's a real correlation between Raekwon Long's improvement and Scott County's 18 game win streak.

Casual Fan Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Maybe the Cardinals can piggyback a basketball championship onto their football crown. Not to mention the bowling championship they just won last week. Easy to hate Scott Co for their success and arrogance, but the truth is they give their kids great facilities, great coaching, and teach them to succeed. Congrats Cardinals on a statement win tonight. It was a beatdown to be sure. Gilbert shot the lights out. This is a solid team. Stats at cypersportsusa.com have a lot of unattributed team rebounds, and I'm not too sure about the 12-4 assist totals either, but looks like Scott shot 49.1% with 9/14 from 3. Catholic 33.3% with 4/17 from 3. Scott 18/21 FT (!) and Catholic 14/22. Scott with 18 second-chance points, LexCath 6, with rebounds favoring Scott 45-36. Both centers had double-doubles, with the questionable stats it just says 10-10 for each, by my count that may be low on rebounds for Dence, who also blocked 7-footer Long's shot once cleanly and again with a foul called.

I believe I have been watching a different Long than you have, but it could be their super hot shooting out of the gate
JokersWild24 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I believe I have been watching a different Long than you have, but it could be their super hot shooting out of the gate Definitely not there yet, but at least he's able to stay on the floor some without fouling was more what I was going for. He doesn't have to do much besides be 7 feet tall and stay on the floor to have an effect on the defensive end.
Casual Fan Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Scoring for Scott County looks much more balanced than it usually does. I think there's a real correlation between Raekwon Long's improvement and Scott County's 18 game win streak. Scott County is Gilbert, Ware, and Martini, not necessarily in that order. Long's rebounds and blocks are mostly a function of space occupied rather than going to get them. But he is running the floor better than when I saw him in December. He flushed a lob tonight, and finished a break with a big dunk, whereas in December he stood on the block. In watching for the 8 years my son has played, I've noticed that any kid who makes it to 6'9" has a long line of hangers-on lurking to train them and find them opportunities. I think this kid will have a fine future because people will invest the time and money moreso than for a more athletic kid without the height. I noticed him pounding his chest and signaling "we're #1" coming out of the national anthem, so I think he's tuned in and wants to make the effort.
GNGsports Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 16-0 run (11 points in first minute) to start this game without a doubt was the difference. Gilbert lights out (6-of-8 from three), Ware's on-ball defense of Talbott and Martini/Long rebounding equaled the perfect storm on Senior night. Don't think anybody was beating them. If the starters had played more in the second quarter, SC could have hit 60 points by half. Easily playing their best basketball right now.
