Scott County 56 Lafayette 52 (Toyota Classic)

Featured Replies

Scott County beats Lafayette 56-52 in Toyota Classic semis. Trent Gilbert 28 pts. Jackson Davis 32 pts.

11th Region is going to be a battle. Both of these teams are legit.

Scott avenges an earlier season 5-point overtime loss to Lafayette.

Yep.

I watched them play each other in the Repubic Bank Classic. Both of these teams can play. I love watching Gilbert play from Scott Co. Also, Jackson Davis is the REAL DEAL.

After watching this game, Jackson Davis could be the best big man in the state. Kid can do it all. Quick, can jump, has strength and seems to always be around the ball. His ability to shoot this year has improved his game and made him a serious guard at any spot on the floor.

But he didn't get much help tonight.

Trent Gilbert was forced to play more of a point guard role with SCHS' starter out, but the kid showed some toughness - got a wayward elbow to the face in the second quarter and knocked out a tooth. Came back in soon after and hit a deep three, which seemed to jump start his night.

It's clear, though, that SC is not the same without Martini. He's the glue guy if there'd ever be a definition of one.

I'm glad that I'll be watching a lot of 11th Region hoops coming up. I agree that it should be a wild ride.

GNG is right on.

I also thought Teddy Ware played some great on the ball defense tonight.

Most definitely. He and Reese Ryan are two of my favorite "glue guys" in the 11th this year. Daquice Allen of Bryan Station and Quentin Chames of Holmes also play that role well. All four of them seem to be blue-collar, hardhat and lunch pail types.

These type of players don't get as much attention as the scorers, but so valuable to the team. They are the players I usually pick out.

Why was Tony Martini out?

I know the 11th is deep, but I'll be disappointed if I one of these two isn't the rep at the state tournament.

Agreed. The best teams have a few kids like this, and that's what separates the good from the great.

Don't know if you've seen them or not, but Lexington Catholic is pretty good as well.

Tanner Johnson is a legit D1 prospect, Robert Dence is a big, long kid whose game I really like and seems to be coming along. I'd put him in the 6'5-6'7 range. Jarrod Griffin is a very capable point guard who would start for any team in the region. I've already mentioned Reese Ryan.

I don't think he was out. He did sit quite a bit with foul trouble though.
