Don't know if you've seen them or not, but Lexington Catholic is pretty good as well.

 

Tanner Johnson is a legit D1 prospect, Robert Dence is a big, long kid whose game I really like and seems to be coming along. I'd put him in the 6'5-6'7 range. Jarrod Griffin is a very capable point guard who would start for any team in the region. I've already mentioned Reese Ryan.

 

The only game I have seen them play this year was when they got destroyed by Chaminade, so that probably isn't a great gauge, but I didn't see a lot out of them to put them toward the top of the state. I would agree they are the clear #3 team in the region right now, but I think there is probably a decent gap between the top two and them.

They had great results in their 2 Christmas tournaments (8-0 with 4 top 20 wins) and poor results in their other games (4-5 with a home loss to LCA).

 

With that said, barring a big change, they are easily the favorite for next year.

Why was Tony Martini out?

 

Sat most of third quarter with four fouls. But managed to play the entire fourth without getting another.

 

When he fouled out against Lafayette in the Republic Bank Classic the game changed completely.

After watching this game, Jackson Davis could be the best big man in the state. Kid can do it all. Quick, can jump, has strength and seems to always be around the ball. His ability to shoot this year has improved his game and made him a serious guard at any spot on the floor.

 

But he didn't get much help tonight.

 

 

 

Trent Gilbert was forced to play more of a point guard role with SCHS' starter out, but the kid showed some toughness - got a wayward elbow to the face in the second quarter and knocked out a tooth. Came back in soon after and hit a deep three, which seemed to jump start his night.

 

It's clear, though, that SC is not the same without Martini. He's the glue guy if there'd ever be a definition of one.

 

I'm glad that I'll be watching a lot of 11th Region hoops coming up. I agree that it should be a wild ride.

 

As I have said earlier, IMO, he doesn't have much help. If teams, like Scott Co did Friday night, force Lane to handle it and make decisions the others do not make shots consistently. If Davis gets into foul trouble, which he is prone to do, and they go cold, they could make an early exit. There is lots of youth at the guard position and if their pg plays like he did Friday night (6 assists, rebounds and steals on 2-8 shooting with 7 turnovers), it is a recipe for disaster. If they get the ball to Davis, who most certainly will be a candidate for Mr. Basketball and a first team all stater, then they will be dangerous. Late Friday they forgot about Davis and had the wrong guys taking shots. When you have a stallion you ride him into the sunset.

Because of the way the districts are set up, the 11th is one of the more unpredictable regions given how the draw usually shakes out. This year should be no different.

 

I have dropped Lex Cath in my rankings this week because of performances like the ones you've mentioned though.
