extracted from a write-up on iHigh The Lady ‘Stangs and Lady Camels battled thru lightning delays and rain for two innings before suffering through an hour and fifteen minute delay. When play resumed at Scott High School the Lady ‘Stangs of Bishop Brossart flashed a little shock and awe on Campbell Co. They jumped to a 6-0 lead with six big ones in the 3rd inning. They added one in the fourth to make it 7-0 before a one inning Lady Camel rally enabled the purple and gold to pull with in two at 7-5. Brossart added an insurance run in the seventh to cruise to an 8-5 victory and the 37th District Championship. Tricia Kramer got the ball rolling in the big third inning and then Maria Gries reached on an error. Emily Greis and Allie Anstead followed with rbi singles before Erica Riedeman was hit by a pitch. Shannon Kremer then went with an outside pitch to right for a three run double and then scored the final run on pitcher Karlie Shackelford knocked her home with a laser to center. Maria Greis tripled in the fourth and then scored on an Anstead groundout. In the sixth Maria Greis hustled a single into a double, advanced to third on Emily Greis’ infield hit and then scored on another Anstead base knock. Sophomore pitcher Karlie Shackelford, battling thru an injury, cruised like the Florida – Georgia line until the fifth when an error opened the gates for the Lady Camels to mount a mini rally. Senior pitcher Mary Kay Reilly came in with the bases loaded and shut the door on the Lady Camels and then retired six of the seven batters she faced in the sixth and seventh innings for the save. Allie Anstead, Maria Greis and Tricia Kramer were selected All-Tourney from a team that could have placed as many as seven players who made major contributions. Kramer, one of the most underated defensive players in Northern Kentucky made several outstanding defensive plays in centerfield for Coach Baynum’s troop. The Lady ‘Stangs will now draw either St. Patrick, Nicholas Co. or Montgomery Co. in Mondays’ opening game of the 10th Region Tournament at Bourbon Co. The draw is Saturday at Harrison Co. at 10:15 AM.

I do believe you because, anyone that knows softball well knows what he does for the sport. If he doesn't take stats for another 50 years I will always give him stuff about it I know it is in good fun to beat on the BGH but PLEASE remember that if you keep putting that in print it DOES take away from the girls on BBHS that are getting it done because everyone thinks that what these girls are doing in not legit and that is just not the case. It WILL hurt any of them that should get votes for different teams like ALL tourny, conference, region, state ect... You say you are for ALL of them in past posts and I do believe you however, I think in the fun you are unintentionally putting a cloud over some girls. Please consider what impact that could have on a high school girl that could get some good pub but did not get a vote because someone that vote does not understand your attempt at having some fun with BGH. No reason to re-write a masterpiece from the BGH. I would not ever think to try and write like he does. I just wanted to get the score and write-up posted on BGP where more people will see it. By the way JMU, BGH has not touched the stats or book for a year and a half so you can let that one go and move on. Love him or hate him BGH has done more for young ladies and fastpitch than anyone I know. My kids love their team and coaches and would not have wanted to play anywhere else. They have won a lot of games playing for a small School and as you know JMU that is hard to do with the limited number of talented girls in a small school. I hope we have a few more surprises for some team to finish out this year like we did with Nicholas but if not it has been a great ride for my girls. GO BBHS and GO BGH!!!!

The umpires did not hit the ball to the fence and run around the bases while the outfielders chased them. Best hitting BBHS has done all year!! Umpire had a slightly low strike zone but was consistent throughout the game. The only questionable call was if the ball hit the batter on a bunt which he call BBHS batter out and sent the run that scored back. if he saw it hit the batter it was the right call. I did not see it hit her but others said it did. Made the right call. Hopefully we get far enough to play them again and wil take our chances. Good luck to all teams moving into the post season.

The Lady ‘Stangs have been looking for a “big” win as they move toward the post season and Wednesday evening at Alexandria City Field they got a nice one coming from behind to knock off All “A” Region Champion and Defending 10th Region Champion Nicholas County 10-4 on Senior Night. The team is starting to play it’s best softball of the season at the best time of the year. Bishop Brossart’s five seniors Maria Greis, Emily Greis, Mary Kay Reilly, Erica Riedeman and Tricia Kramer were all in the starting lineup and played key roles in the come from behind victory. They were honored with their parents prior to the game. Nicholas County (14-8) drew first blood taking a 3-0 lead with one run in each of the first three innings. Brossart took the lead with a big third inning scoring four runs as Amanda Graus reached on a smash off the third baseman’s leg, Maria Greis singled and then Emily Greis plated Graus with a double. A ground out by Allie Anstead plated Mama Greis and a single by Erica Riedeman drove in Emily Greis. Amanda Lloyd’s sacrifice drove in the lead run, Riedeman. They came right back with four more in the fourth to open up an 8-3 advantage as Tricia Kramer and Graus opened with hard singles and then both scored on a long triple by Maria Greis. Emily Greis then homered to scored the Greis family. They would add on two security runs in the sixth. Graus walked and Maria Greis singled again. Emily Greis drove home Maria Greis with a hit then Riedeman’s chopper off the third baseman allowed Emily Greis to score. Meanwhile on the mound Mary Kay Reilly won her second game of the year holding Nicholas County to just 5 hits in four plus innings and Karlie Shackleford came in to get the save. Brossart outhit Nicholas Co. 14 to 8. Graus scored three times, Maria Greis was 4 for 4 with three RBI. Emily Greis went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and Erica Riedeman drove home two runs. Brossart plays tonight against a very good tBourbon county eam so we will see if they can keep playing well at the right time of the year. BBHS had bases loaded twice and could not get a run in. Pitcher made a Great play on the last out of the game which was a very hard hit ball that she gloves at her feet. If that ball goes through 2 runs score with 1st and 2nd and the 2 hitter up. well pitched game by both pithers and so some good defense as well. BBHS is playing much better than they were 2 weeks ago and are show some signs of life. maybe peaking at the right time to make a small run?????? We will see. Good Luck to NDA. IMO the 9th region is theirs if they want to take it.

And I was just about to complement your husband on his excellent job ump-ing. :lol2: I would not go that far. He has done about what seems like 10 of BBHS games this year and I think we lost all of them. Maybe he is the reason we are 12-7 with the same team basically as last years 25 win team.:isurrender: We need someone to blame, it might as well be him we did it in basketball.:lol2:

You hijacked it when YOU decided to take a shoot at BBHS because of you personal hatred for them and BGH and expect everyone just to take it. By the way BGH does not keep the book like everyone likes to think. When some of our kids get three hits and do well were would rather you just say nice hitting by some of the BBHS girls. By the way 2 of our 4 infields told your Daughter Nice hit as she round the bases on her home run because it was a Bomb and deserved recognition. THATS what I expect from BBHS kids and thats what you will always get from our young LADIES. Now that I am proud of. Best of luck to ALL teams as we move forward in the season.

Thats the exact point, you hate when someone else does well and your daughter is not the center of attention and apparently she does not like it either after her comments to 2 of our players. You should be a proud dad! Also your talking about a BBHS team that has won 6 games and have been playing terrible so yes they were excited to final win a game. is there anything wrong with that. By the way I think your daughter is a great player and fun to watch but needs to make sure she keeps her head in the game and not make remarks like that. Just like BGH gives BBHS a bad name sometime and you are doing the same thing for your daughter.

Your comments are getting old. Sorry you got beat. BBHS always beats HC! Please quite taking away from girls that get it done day after day. The day before they had 7 hits between them against HHS in a lose. Your hate for Brossart is getting LAME. Injuries and illnesses happen on all teams, deal with it. Also some comments made to some players on the field were out of line. Good players get out some times and when they do they should take it and move on. I would expent more from young ladies that has been around the game more than most and play at the level they do. Go back to the bench and get ready for the next inning. Frustration showed in the late innings of this game. Good luck to ALL GIRLS as the season moves closer to tournament time.

No pencil whip needed after 3 and 4 hitter go 6-8 with 2 walks and 7 stolen bases. Put that in your book!!!

BBHS will have plenty left after beating up on HC. HC may be overrated and we hope that BBHS is final reach the level of play they had last year. Time will tell.

I was there and it was a very bad call. She dove, made the play, dropped the ball while laying on the ground by the bag. Picked it up with her hand and tagged the bag with the ball in hand a full step before the girl got there. She never lost control after she grabbed it with her hand. Since it was a force out all she had to do is tag the bag and she DID do that. Inning should have been over. The base ump missed 3 call. The girl going to 3rd was out as well on the overthrow that the shortstop caught and tagged the runner on the arm. She tagged her hard enough on the arm that you could see her arm get knocked back. He had a bad day. The SHDH pitched did a nice job keeping BBHS hitter off balance and as well as she pitched BBHS would have had a hard time scoring. Did have 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs but a ground out to second ended the inning.

I was told by 2 brossart players that it was 19-2 and that "Those girls can hit"! 1st time outside for BBHS but it does not matter when they are hitting balls off the fence and over the fence. No panic here about a scrimmage. This may be a tough season for everyone if the weather does not get better. My senior year in High school we played 13 games due to weather. hope it is not one of those years. I would love to see some games Soon!

Hand Checking is one of the big problems out front and as an official you should use the "R.I.D."method. If a player Redirects, Impedes, Or causes Displacement of a player it IS a Foul period and should be called but in many cases is not.

Took over as official head coach last year. Was Mel "assitant" before that but really has run the team for a long time. He does a great job!!! I also like CCHS's coach. Sandy Kitchen does a great job and knows how to motivate kids and you also get Bob as they come as a package deal.

Key words bolded above. No district champs, No regional champs (almost "major colapse"), No winning record, and a pitcher that plays summer ball before her high school season is over and breaks her leg. The only thing they have going for them is their coach who IMO is one of the best. She is the reason they will turn the program around when they do. As I said earlier I "Guaranteed" they ARE over due. See you on the field soon somewhere!

Kids are not choosing to come to Brossart to play sports so as to give them an unfair advantage because they are a private school. You hear it a lot about private schools south of here like Trinity, St.X, among may others. For example if I had a Stud football player am I going to send him to Brossart, probably not I would send him to Highlands to play ball and get a great education. Don't get me wrong for the size of school Brossart has GREAT sports programs and beat many large school teams in many sports (just ask CCHS soccer team and softball team about that) but it is not a Sports machine by anyones definition. Zap thats exactly what I mean.

What does that have to do with anything. 380 kids versus 1100 kids means more players to pick from and there are not many kids choosing to go to Brossart for sports and if they are they are picking it for the wrong reasons. They have a good sports programs and have been very good but just don't have the numbers to reload every year. Some very good classes and some ok classes thats how it goes for small school. Montgomery has a really good team and would beat BBHS 8 or 9 times out of 10. No disrespect to BBHS because they are good and play as hard as anyone, thats just the way it is. I love small school sports and would love to see classes but it will never happen. All A is there chance to shine and some years in the big show. How many "A" schools will make the sweet 16 in either boys or girls. Not many if any.

Maybe it is the Camels year. When is the last time they won the district or even had a winning season? They are way over due "Guaranteed". How many games did they win last year? They should be improved this year but time will tell how bad or good they will be or if they can beat BBHS. What year was the last time they beat BBHS? Wasn't Carter President. Just say'n Good luck to all and let the games and write-ups begin.

Look at the body of work for the season and tell me CC is better than BBHS. You can't! CC is playing much better now than they were but they are not the "better" team IMO. At this time of year it really does not matter, all you want to do is advance and BBHS did while missing the best play. There are a lot of players/teams with their seasons over but BBHS is still playing. thats all you hope for. NCC was a really good team but they are Done. BBHS lives another day and all the other talk is just a waste of time! BBHS beat Manual, does that mean they were a better team?
