Featured Replies

The Lady ‘Stangs have been looking for a “big” win as they move toward the post season and Wednesday evening at Alexandria City Field they got a nice one coming from behind to knock off All “A” Region Champion and Defending 10th Region Champion Nicholas County 10-4 on Senior Night. The team is starting to play it’s best softball of the season at the best time of the year.

Bishop Brossart’s five seniors Maria Greis, Emily Greis, Mary Kay Reilly, Erica Riedeman and Tricia Kramer were all in the starting lineup and played key roles in the come from behind victory. They were honored with their parents prior to the game.

Nicholas County (14-8) drew first blood taking a 3-0 lead with one run in each of the first three innings. Brossart took the lead with a big third inning scoring four runs as Amanda Graus reached on a smash off the third baseman’s leg, Maria Greis singled and then Emily Greis plated Graus with a double. A ground out by Allie Anstead plated Mama Greis and a single by Erica Riedeman drove in Emily Greis. Amanda Lloyd’s sacrifice drove in the lead run, Riedeman. They came right back with four more in the fourth to open up an 8-3 advantage as Tricia Kramer and Graus opened with hard singles and then both scored on a long triple by Maria Greis. Emily Greis then homered to scored the Greis family. They would add on two security runs in the sixth. Graus walked and Maria Greis singled again. Emily Greis drove home Maria Greis with a hit then Riedeman’s chopper off the third baseman allowed Emily Greis to score.

Meanwhile on the mound Mary Kay Reilly won her second game of the year holding Nicholas County to just 5 hits in four plus innings and Karlie Shackleford came in to get the save.

Brossart outhit Nicholas Co. 14 to 8. Graus scored three times, Maria Greis was 4 for 4 with three RBI. Emily Greis went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and Erica Riedeman drove home two runs.

Brossart plays tonight against a very good tBourbon county eam so we will see if they can keep playing well at the right time of the year.

Wasn't at the game, but me and DD ran into some of the Nic players at a resturant and they were NOT happy with the umpiring:) Watch out if Brossart meets them in the regionals, it will be "game on" :) Congrats to the Lady Stangs...very big win!

Nice win. Congrats on the victory.

Well, I was at the game and thought the umpires did a fine job! :ylsuper: If you weren't there, you should probably take that comment for what it was worth - frustration from the losing team. Congrats Lady Stangs and good luck to the 5 seniors on their future endeavors!

OH, I did just that:) They just made a point that they hoped they met again in the regionals and that would be a great game...haven't been to a single game in the last ten years of watching fastpitch that the umps didn't have questionable calls:eyeonyou: They weren't snarky about it at all...even asked my dd how her game went and wished CC good luck. My only complaint about BBHS is the lack of scoreboard at the new field...we parents had a heck of a time remembering where we were at in the game! LOL Like I said, congrats to the Stangs, I consider it a very big win:)

The umpires did not hit the ball to the fence and run around the bases while the outfielders chased them. Best hitting BBHS has done all year!! Umpire had a slightly low strike zone but was consistent throughout the game. The only questionable call was if the ball hit the batter on a bunt which he call BBHS batter out and sent the run that scored back. if he saw it hit the batter it was the right call. I did not see it hit her but others said it did. Made the right call.

Hopefully we get far enough to play them again and wil take our chances. Good luck to all teams moving into the post season.

I hear ya! Lack of scoreboard AND lack of concessions but hopefully both of those things will come sooner rather than later. Coach Baynum and his crew have done a great job so far with their new home.

Written in true BGH fashion.........

Nice victory for the 'Stangs! Nice write up Ballmer99, even if it was a copy and paste job. :lol2: Also congrats to the Brossart seniors, they've had a very nice hs career. Glad we won't have to see M. Greis and T. Kramer anymore, they gave most teams all they could handle.

Likely the NC players were not happy about being warned to not argue balls / strikes and be demonstrative about it. Could have been a restriction to the dugout.....I'm guessing the plate umpire was feeling nostalgic on senior nite.....BBHS killed the ball.

Two of the girls mentioned that the ump said that the catcher and pitcher were not allowed to talk to each other? What was that all about? They hit really well against us last week too:eek:

Looks like no game for us against HC tonight...dang weather:sour:

They weren't so much talking to each other as much as rolling their eyes at the ump's strike zone among other things they were saying and doing. I guess the ump got tired of it after having talked about good sportsmanship during pre-game instructions of which both girls were in attendance. Players need to leave the arguing of balls and strikes to their coach.

I just left the field and it's perfect right now. If it does not get hit hard again they should play.

WE have gotten an inch so far...this stinks! Would have been my dd's last game since she doesn't pitch varsity anymore this year:meh: Wish we could make up some games, but when we do, they make them varsity only:( I'm really starting to dislike HS ball, hoping we can find a summer ball team and make up some lost ground:eek:
