The Lady ‘Stangs and Lady Camels battled thru lightning delays and rain for two innings before suffering through an hour and fifteen minute delay. When play resumed at Scott High School the Lady ‘Stangs of Bishop Brossart flashed a little shock and awe on Campbell Co. They jumped to a 6-0 lead with six big ones in the 3rd inning. They added one in the fourth to make it 7-0 before a one inning Lady Camel rally enabled the purple and gold to pull with in two at 7-5. Brossart added an insurance run in the seventh to cruise to an 8-5 victory and the 37th District Championship.

 

Tricia Kramer got the ball rolling in the big third inning and then Maria Gries reached on an error. Emily Greis and Allie Anstead followed with rbi singles before Erica Riedeman was hit by a pitch. Shannon Kremer then went with an outside pitch to right for a three run double and then scored the final run on pitcher Karlie Shackelford knocked her home with a laser to center.

 

Maria Greis tripled in the fourth and then scored on an Anstead groundout. In the sixth Maria Greis hustled a single into a double, advanced to third on Emily Greis’ infield hit and then scored on another Anstead base knock.

 

Sophomore pitcher Karlie Shackelford, battling thru an injury, cruised like the Florida – Georgia line until the fifth when an error opened the gates for the Lady Camels to mount a mini rally. Senior pitcher Mary Kay Reilly came in with the bases loaded and shut the door on the Lady Camels and then retired six of the seven batters she faced in the sixth and seventh innings for the save.

 

Allie Anstead, Maria Greis and Tricia Kramer were selected All-Tourney from a team that could have placed as many as seven players who made major contributions. Kramer, one of the most underated defensive players in Northern Kentucky made several outstanding defensive plays in centerfield for Coach Baynum’s troop.

 

The Lady ‘Stangs will now draw either St. Patrick, Nicholas Co. or Montgomery Co. in Mondays’ opening game of the 10th Region Tournament at Bourbon Co. The draw is Saturday at Harrison Co. at 10:15 AM.

I really thought Campbell had a shot at beating Brossart this year with them having a down year. good luck to both teams in the regional.

Yes, Camels made some errors in the 3rd inn, but most of them were throwing errors after the fact. Almost all the hits by Brossart were legit bombs. Good luck to both teams:thumb:

We must have watched 2 different games then. The bobbled ball at 2nd (would have been the 2nd out of the inning with a runner on 2nd, next girl gets a base hit and 2 runs I think score) and the ball which slipped out of the centerfielders hand and went into no man's land caused 2 - 3 runs to score. Like I said before if there were no errors Campbell Co COULD (magic word there) have won the game.

No show here, I am done. The real winner is the girl who came in relief for Shackleford (she was getting hit pretty good in the 5th) because she shut down Campbell Co. She did not throw hard but CC could not make the adjustments.

 

Like I said in my previous comment, you can't make errors and expect to win no matter how many hits you get. You have to do the little things right and if that does not happen you will not win. Little things are laying down sac bunts, not getting doubled off when the pop fly is in front of you, making a routine play to get the leading runner and I could go on, just stating some of the little things that killed Campbell Co. in this game.

If getting hit hard in the 5th is 3 hits and 1 being an error, I guess she did. I really do think you were watching another game. When she was taken out of the game it was 7 to 1.?? She is injured and not trying to push it. We thought we had the game wrapped up. Now were done.
