You would think so, considering how long the process has taken at Mercer, but I would assume he has been their first call the last couple of times... Hasn't gone to Mercer, yet.

I am sure his staff will have plenty of names (former college players, and what-not), but that doesn't always mean they can coach. I wish him the best at Woodford, but Mercer needs someone with experience guiding that program, right now, IMO. It is hard enough to coach at home, but when it is you first head coaching job and "home" is already facing some fractures in the fan base, that just makes for a poison cocktail a lot of times. Probably better for Coach Johnson to cut his teeth elsewhere.

It has been eerily quiet. Last couple of times this job came open, there was speculation swirling the whole time. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. lol

That is a good point. I have heard Boyle had over 40 FRESHMAN on the team last year.

Bardstown & Garrard are probably a notch behind those guys - BUT not by much. Both are capable of beating any of these teams, on a given night.

What exactly is your criteria for evaluating their schedule as "average, at best?"

Apparently, not every agrees this is an "average at best" schedule.

3A is definitely the deepest class in the new realignment.

Any of you guys see the Film Room of the National Championship game??? I thought it was an awesome way to watch.

Seen a fair amount of discussion about this region in other threads. Thought it deserved its own. Looks like this: District 3: Bardstown, Central, Henry, Moore, Thomas Nelson, & Waggener District 4: Boyle, Garrard, LexCath, & Western Hills. There will be some tough 2 vs. 3 matchups in the playoffs.

I guess "odd" isn't the exact idea I wanted to express. Certainly different. Very animated, trying to pump up the crowd, sort of all over the place. Just different than what I am used to from a head coach... That along with the "rolling stone" career just makes me curious what he actually wants in his career. That said, his results speak for themselves -- and he has won in some places where there has never been a lot of winning. If I was looking to build a program from scratch, he would, at the very least, be on my list to call.

Boyle will almost certainly be back in 4A in the next alignment.

Poynter seems to know football, and has been successful in some "dog" jobs, but I just can't figure him out... The incessant moving, his choices of jobs, and his sometimes odd sideline demeanor, kinda leave me scratching my head, sometimes. Just a different kind of dude, I guess.

It can be a tough job... But most jobs are tough jobs. There are maybe 10 jobs in the state that are "good" jobs. Every other job is a fight. I will say this - I think the admin problems have been greatly exaggerated - at least regarding the most recent turnover. The fans can be tough, but so can all fans. The whole Mercer/H-town split is overblown, IMO. However, I do believe the next head coach better have some interpersonal skills to go along with some football chops. Coach Pardue was doing fine - just had a season that went off the rails... Injuries, off-the-field issues, etc. Seems like everyone got frustrated and it boiled over. I don't think it was anyone's "fault," least of all the admin or fans, just a lot of frustration all around. There is an opportunity to do really well for the right guy. But they need a proven HEAD COACH, if they can get one. It is not an impossible job, but it is also not the job for a new guy, cutting his teeth.

It is not a good measuring stick on an individual level, BUT a good middle school program is vital to a good HS program for one reason... Numbers. Especially at smaller schools, it is important. Maybe less so for a school like Woodford. I am of the belief that the most important person in a football program is the Head Coach of the HS, the 2nd is the Head Coach at the MS level.

But not the same that oversaw all the mess prior to Rains, right? My impression was that Rains left because he got a pretty sweet deal to go somewhere else. Could be wrong. Either way, Pardue is a really good coach and I thought they had the makings of a good staff. Going to be tough, moving forward for Mercer - though they are in a pretty light district in the next alignment.

I could be wrong here, but wasn't there an admin shakeup after Rains left? I don't think this admin is not the same as previous ones

Doubt either Dudley or Perry have applied to Marion - although I think it could be a good job.

Maybe I am a little slow on the uptake... Why would a school fire a head coach just for APPLYING to for another job?
