The job of a Principal is agonizingly busy. Managing a school, being present at most every extra-curricular activity, dealing with teachers, students, and parents. NO THANKS. They don't get paid enough.

The snowpocalypse is going to bring down the hammer, and that may be the only thing the 10th Region has that can stop George Rogers Clark. The rankings this week stayed identical to last week. Pi had the foresight to rank Mason below Bracken, and the Polar Bears are celebrating their first men’s victory over Mason since 1998. This is a 2 horse race, and if Sears isn’t eligible it’s 1. But, anything can happen in the field house in March. 1.) George Rogers Clark ?|| (15-3) Tate’s Creek and Paris got COOK’d this week. Neither one gave the Cardinals a particular challenge. Gay, Akins and Ashford are all in double figures, and JaMylyn Johnson is .01 ppg away from joining the club. Firing on all cylinders, momentum swinging in Winchester. 2.) Montgomery County ?|| (10-7) The question of Austin Sears’ eligibility still lingers in Hot Pocket town. He will greatly improve an already good team, but outside of a 6 point loss to GRC, the 10th region has proven pretty docile even against the Indians with only the younger Sears. This week they see Franklin County, and then have a rematch with GRC. 3.) Campbell County ?|| (14-5) 12 points is not a drubbing, but it’s not exactly a close one either. Montgomery County handled the Camels well, but Sowder’s boys are built for March. The spring brings new hope for the 2 humped purple and gold. This week they face a tall task in Covington Catholic, then host te protestant side of Kenton County when Community Christian comes to town 4.) Nicholas County ? || (14-6) Owensboro is 3.5 hours to Carlisle, and the Bluejackets made the trip with high hopes. But a Green Dragon was not to be slayed. They rebound this week with 10th Region bottom dwellers Robertson and Harrison, then a district seeding matchup Friday against Pendleton. 5.) Bishop Brossart ? || (8-9) The only action this week was down I71 and the Gallatin County Wildcats. This week has a full slate, Augusta, then Community Christian and a huge seeding matchup Friday against Scott. The way the 37th is right now, this could mean everything. 6.) Scott ? || (11-7) My vote for coach of the year before Benjamin Brown came to campus was already going to be Fromeyer— losing the top returning scorer to a football injury spells DOOM for a lot of teams, but the Eagles were already playing well. Now Mr. Brown has them humming along. This week is a big one. St Henry, then Brossart, and Holmes. 7.) Bourbon County ?|| (14-7) “Colonels Win” is a refrain heard in Paris 5 times in the last 8 days. Bourbon is getting hot— and if they weren’t in the 40th they would feel good about their chances to make some noise in the district. GRC, Bath and Ryle this week. Winning 2 of those would be an accomplishment. 8.) Calvary Christian ?|| (13-6) Calvary beat the Demons, and two more Catholic schools this week. None of them were particularly close. This is perhaps the best Calvary team ever? Holmes, Ludlow and Villa again this week. 9.) Pendleton County ?|| (9-9) Another .500 week in Falmouth. Pendleton Memorial takes a step forward and a step back each week. This week Robertson will give them a bounce-back game, which is good, because a seeding game Friday in Carlisle waits. 10.) Bracken County ?‍❄️ || (10-8) Deron Breeze, Gary McKinney, Jay Fite, Chad Persinger, Jeremy Miles, Jason Hinson, Adam Reed. Not a one of those coaches did what Terry King did Friday. He beat Mason County. The Polar Bears are flying high, and it’s not because of the frigid temps. This week St Patrick and Madison Southern see the Polar Bears. 11.) Harrison County ?|| (4-15) Some racehorses get put out to pasture. The ‘Breds aren’t there yet, but they aren’t Secretariat either. Nicholas and Robertson both come to Cynthiana this week, presumably with opposite results. 12.) Paris ? || (2-14) Young, inexperienced, new coaching staff, whatever the cause, times are tough in Paris. Frankfort, Madison Central and Boyd County make this a week that they would rather forget coming up. 13.) St Pat ?|| (7-8) Something is in the water at St Pat’s. They just keep winning like they haven’t in a while. 2-1 on the week is a good place to be. They have 2 seed games this week with Augusta and Bracken, and if they win one of those, look out! 14.) Mason County ?|| (2-14) In 1998, the last time they lost to Bracken, Mason still went 18-10. Things are bleak for the boys in blue. Royals just can’t find a way to get it figured out. The game against Augusta looms larger than it ever has. Mason County could very well be the 4th seed coming into the district tourney. 15.) Augusta ?|| (5-11) Scott and Owen County got the better of the Panthers this week. A busy schedule for the Orange and Black, Brossart, St Pat, Mason and then Anderson County means they don't have time to lick their wounds. 16.) Robertson County ?|| (1-16) Bleak is the word in Mt. Olivet. Good people, great community, struggling ball team.

The Kenton County Superintendent is not a sports guy. Sports are not a priority for Central Office. Places where that's not the case don't care about the rules. KCSD does. I believe Boone has been following the same process and rules. I did some digging. Scott announced their last two hires also on Feb 1. This is not new. SK named Wynn early 1/9/25, but he had started a teaching job in the building right away; Trimnell has not. Dixie didn't announce Burke until 2/1/22 when they hired him. Boone announced Court 3/14/24, and Ryle announced Englert 2/1/14. KCSD has made it clear that they will not violate the Feb 1 rule. The weight room is open, kids are working, and for all I know, Trimnell might be around. But the rule is the rule, whether anyone else follows it or not. Scott's Athletic Dept gets a lot of heat, and I would deem most of it unnecessary.

The Cards equal their season high in points and improve to 15-3 with a solid road win.

I guess this weather just favors the Polar Bears. First win over Mason since 1998.

It's not all squarely on Kirk's shoulders, but it's also not not on his shoulders either. Times are tough in Maysville for sure.

Another interesting week in the region that covers the northern half of the AA Highway. The clash of the Titans this week tilted the way we expected. St. Pat beat Mason County for the first time since 2000, Nicholas County claimed their spot as the ALL A Representatives, Paris gave Bourbon all they wanted. It was something else. The top is still the top, and honestly, it’s starting to look like they’ll need to engrave George Rogers Clark into the trophy. 1.) George Rogers Clark ?|| (13-3) Cook’s Cardinals took care of the business. That’s what #1 teams do. They dispatched of Bourbon County and then played well against Montgomery. They sealed the #1 seed in their district and announced to the rest of the state: they are for real. 2.) Montgomery County ?|| (8-7) I’d be curious, of all 16 of our regions, if a team with a worse record is ranked this high. They haven’t quite figured it out yet, and waiting on Sears’ eligibility is a huge question mark for them. Paris is first up this week, then a GIGANTIC 10th region preview Friday when the Camels come to Mt. Sterling. 3.) Campbell County ?|| (13-4) It’s probably 2A and 2B with these two, but we’ll know more Friday night. After handily defeating Mason County and Covington Scott they struggled against Summit Country Day. But this week it’s Polar Bears and Indians. We’ll know a lot about this team come Friday night. 4.) Nicholas County ?(? 1 ) || (14-5) The Bluejackets were high on my list early this season, and they’re finally getting warm. They’re traveling to Owensboro this week, looking for a trophy. First in their way is Harlan. 5.) Bishop Brossart ? ( ? 1) || (7-9) The Mustangs have owned the 10th All A for almost all of the last 20 years, but this wasn’t one of those years. Still playing well, Franzen’s boys head to Gallatin County for their only game this week. 6.) Scott ? || (9-7) Adding one of the nations top freshman players wasn’t enough to overcome the Camels. But Ben brown is averaging 30 points per game in Blue and Gray, and optimism is high. This week Harrison County, Augusta and Tates Creek are up. Tates Creek will be at the Hoosier Gym, maybe Fromeyer will run the Pickett Fence? 7.) Bourbon County ?|| (11-7) Bourbon got a scare from their crosstown rivals this week, we’ll see how they respond with a trip to Breathitt County, then hosting Pendleton and Menifee. It’s not an easy spot to be in, but they’re battling. 8.) Calvary Christian ?|| (10-6) The Cougars played two Ohio Private schools this week— beating both. This week, two more private schools come calling, along with the ultimate battle for them, against the Demons of Williamstown. 9.) Pendleton County ?|| (8-8) Falmouth’s finest took one on the chin Thursday at MoCo. This week they travel to Paris, and then a seeding game against district rival Harrison County. Cynthiana and Falmouth do not get along, so there’s always something to see. 10.) Bracken County (? 1 ) ?‍❄️ || (9-6) Losing the only game you play in a week is not normally a recipe for moving up in the standings. But, the 10th region is like no other. And I am not sure that’s a good thing. This week they head all the way down the AA to see Greenup, then the other direction up the AA to Claryville to see the Camels, then head to the field house, surely licking their chops, hoping to do something that they haven’t since 1998. 11.) Harrison County ( ? 1) ?|| (4-13) The Thorobreds are struggling. Only 2 players in double figures, and not many bright spots on the schedule. This week, they play host to Scott and Pendleton. If they want to turn things around this would be a great week to pick up two huge wins. 12.) Paris ? || (2-12) No coach wants to hear “your guys almost had it.” But in year 1 of the Strait regime, that might be a positive. Hanging close to Bourbon is worth noting. The Greyhounds will continue to struggle this week though. Facing MoCo and GRC back to back. Frankfort is the light at the end of the tunnel on Saturday to maybe eek out a win. 13.) St Pat ?|| (5-7) The year was 2000. St Pat has beaten Mason, Lord of The Rings was in theaters, and Lex Turner was head coach of the Saints. Time really is a circle isn't it? The Saints take on Menifee, RULH and Cov Latin this week. They could be staring at 8-7. What a time to be alive. 14.) Mason County. ( ?3) ?|| (2-13) Honestly, the news could get worse in Maysville. It would involve the closing of Pasquales, but, times are tough on top of the hill. Campbell and Fleming had their way, and St Pat closed out a tough one. SK will roll Tuesday, and then Bracken County, followed by South Laurel. Residents of Mason County may want to cover their eyes. 15.) Augusta ?|| (4-9) A busy week coming up for the Panthers. Robertson, Scott, Owen and Rowan. 3 wins are possible. As long as they’re not too focused on the week after, when St Pat and Mason are the draw. 16.) Robertson County ?|| (1-15) A 51 point drubbing from Harrison county has to smart. This week is shaping up to be equally painful. Times are tough in Mt. Olivet.

There were still plenty of blowouts and undeserving playoff teams in 4 classes. The issue isn’t classes, the issue is the divide between haves and have nots will continue to grow.

Yes, plenty of qualified people can do it. A parent with free time and internet access can run a moderately successful off-season weight program. Bench, squat, power clean, deadlift, auxiliary lifts, and agility work. Make sure the boys know safe form, and they're pushing themselves. Sure, numbers won't be there yet, but it's not a great mystery how to run a decent off-season program.

Age and maturity are not always perfectly linear or equal. That's how I can best qualify that Perrin and Martin's situations are not the same.
