Area basketball stars to square off on Saturday 2:31 AM, Jul 13, 2012 | Comments Written by Jason Frakes The Courier-Journal Some of the Louisville area’s top high school basketball players in the 2013 class will compete in Saturday’s Kentucky High School Coaches Association All-Star games at St. Xavier. The girls’ game will begin at 6 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow at 8. The event was moved from Bellarmine University because of the current renovation of Knights Hall. The games will match players from the West (Fifth/Sixth regions) against the East (Seventh/Eighth regions). Bullitt East’s Derek Willis, who has committed to the University of Kentucky, is scheduled to play for the West. This marks the 25th anniversary of the girls’ game, and all four coaches from the first contest in 1988 will be honored: East Hardin’s Terry Buckles, Southern’s Bill Brown, Manual’s Ken Smith and Bullitt East’s Jerry Troutman. Rankings: Kentucky girls Class of 2014 | Jody Demling – Recruiting Posted on June 26, 2012 by Jody Demling Sandwiched between a really good Class of 2013 and a sensational Class of 2015 in the state of Kentucky, the ’14 class sometimes looks weaker. But there are some solid players in the ’14 class, which will be juniors this season. I think the problem with the class and its reputation as far as prospects goes is that it’s just not as deep as we are used to in the Bluegrass. With that said, he’s an attempt at ranking the class. • 1. Ivy Brown, LaRue County, 6-0, F – No question she’s the best of the bunch. Brown has improved and recently Stanford jumped into her recruitment. • 2. I agree WV Frank. I think the girls played really good pressure defense and that was the big key to their success. And from my observation they truly liked each other which made for good team chemistry also helped that Sydney is such a team player! When Indiana's Junior Allstar team was introduced, I thought OMG are these girls really in high school. They are tall and big. I think I saw 6 or 7 girls over 6ft. Would like to see the KY/IN junior all-star game but will be getting my daughter settled at school as she has to report on campus this week, but it should be a really competitive game as we have really good juniors, too.

The All-Stars dominated the second half to defeat the juniors 106-77 at Trinity High School on Wednesday night after romping by 30 over a team with some of the same players Tuesday in Lexington. This time the juniors led 42-33 before the seniors rallied for a 51-46 halftime edge, then blew it open in the second half. Pendleton, the Manual High coach, is preparing his team to meet Indiana in the annual two-game series starting Friday in Freedom Hall. “Last night down there in Lexington we beat them pretty good,” he said. “... We missed a lot of shots (tonight) and should have been up more. I think the kids that they added gave them some more bulk, size to rebound with us. This group probably will mirror what Indiana will bring on Friday.” Miss Basketball Sydney Moss led all scorers with 20 points, 13 in the second half. “Sydney is a great representative for Miss Basketball,” Pendleton said of the Florida signee from Boone County. “She’s really selfless and plays so hard. Moss was by far the best player on the floor, junior or senior. I told my husband I almost forgot how athletic she is, now I am not so worried about the length of Indiana.

Congrats to her. Only seen her play once against South. Although South won, I came away very impressed with her, she is a baller!!

South will have a good team next year. I think they will be better than most people expect. I think the incoming seniors will step it up. Seniors Corine Stanford, Kenzie Beaudrie, Kayla Mullins, and Samantha Taylor are all good solid players that had the unfortunate task of playing behind the class of 2012, I think they will suprise people. I think the biggest plus for South will be junior to be Emma Sedoris. I talked to her Mom last week and she said Emma was having a good AAU summer so far. She is tall and strong, if South can establish an inside game with her , I think they will have a very good team. There are also several other good juniors(Schumm & Platt) and sophomores that will contribute. The first step will be hiring a coach. IMO the obvious choice is Christy Higdon, the JV coach. I don't know why they are delaying the decision.

Actually, I don't think it was because of basketball but more so for his teaching career. It is known by most peple in oldham county that the teachers are paid a lot less but expected to do a lot more than say Jefferson County teachers. I can't fault anyone for making a career move like that. He is a great coach and a better person and I really wish him well. South will actually have a lot of talent coming back, it is unfortunate that they were not able to play as much because of the talent of the outgoing seniors. I told the AD this weekend that if my daughter was still playing, my recommendation would be the JV Coach, Higdon. She did a great job with the JV team and she played college ball at WKU. I don't know if she is interested but I think she would be a great replacement.
