Rankings: Kentucky girls Class of 2014 | Jody Demling – Recruiting

Posted on June 26, 2012 by Jody Demling

Sandwiched between a really good Class of 2013 and a sensational Class of 2015 in the state of Kentucky, the ’14 class sometimes looks weaker.

But there are some solid players in the ’14 class, which will be juniors this season.

I think the problem with the class and its reputation as far as prospects goes is that it’s just not as deep as we are used to in the Bluegrass.

With that said, he’s an attempt at ranking the class.

• 1. Ivy Brown, LaRue County, 6-0, F – No question she’s the best of the bunch. Brown has improved and recently Stanford jumped into her recruitment.

• 2. Kayla Rankin, Perry County Central, 6-0, F – Really had a sensational year for Perry Central; likely to go down as one of the school’s all-time leading scorers.

• 3. MacKenzie Cann, Anderson County, 5-11, F – Solid and steady.

• 4. Danielle Lawrence, Butler, 5-9, F – Has never really gotten the hype with other top players on the roster; but she’s really good.

• 5. Shalika Smith, Glasgow, 6-1, F – Loved her game at Sweet 16; averaged almost a double-double last season.

• 6. Javonna Layfield, Ballard, 5-11, G

• 7. Brooke Todd, Paul Dunbar, 6-0, F

• 8. Nicole Kiernan, Newport Central Catholic, 5-10, F

• 9. Eriel McKee, Anderson County, 5-10, F

• 10. Raven Merriweather, Sacred Heart, 5-7. G

• 11. Tereka Guyn, Scott County, 5-11, F

• 12. Alexus Calhoun, Marion County, 6-0, F

• 13. Jamie Castle, Magoffin County, 5-5, G

• 14. Daijia Ruffin, Sacred Heart, 5-10, F

• 15. Emily Fryman, Bullitt East, 5-5, G

((NOTE: There are some prospects that could be making a transfer of schools that is not included in these rankings.))

IMO Abby Owings/SK should be on this list

Not a lot of size when compared to the 2015 class. Maybe one of the reasons Jody thinks so highly of the younger ladies.

Agreed. Small, but fast, tough, a huge heart...and scores. Probably now the best all around point guard in the 8th region.

These rankings, I believe, are based on college potential....with that said, Owings size certainly is a big factor.

Have to say though, really enjoy watching her play!

Nice list. Surprised the Futcher girl from Brossart did not make this list.
