  1. 13 total passes by Towles tells you the game plan changed in the 2nd half. I'd like to see a rematch in November.
  2. Completely agree with LN. If Towles has time to throw, it should be a big night for the Birds on offense. Then again, if he is forced to scramble, he has shown the ability to make big plays with his feet. Thanks to the Seniors for a great run!
  3. Like the beat down you put on St. X I suppose, ya think Ox?? Trinity and Highlands will peacefully co-exist ... for the foreseeable future.
  4. Highlands sends out its seniors in style, wins 49-10.
  5. The great things for HS football fans is that we get to watch for 3 years to find out.
  6. Not a single person on the visitor's side said a word about that TOG... at least your sound system works... Back to the game. Props to the DL and OL for the Birds. Several stops for losses on D and the holes were there for their trio of outstanding backs to run through. The LBs for CovCath are tough kids. Shout out to #69 Little on HHS O-Line. His block in the 2nd half to free Harris for a TD was textbook. QB for CovCath is a tough kid. Bet these 2 meet again in the frosh championship... and many times in future years given the KHSAA proposed realignment which keeps HHS and CC in the same class.
  7. Haven't seen Lone Oak play but many BGP posters have sung their praises for a while now. Would enjoy seeing them in person. Some of the West 4A schools are a bit of an unknown (have seen Franklin Simpson several times), who are the most likely 4A finalists based on history, talent, etc...?
  8. Couldn't agree more. Although the future at HHS looks very promising with the current JV and freshman teams. With the proposed district alignments, I suppose HHS would meet Boyle/LexCath in the state semis (assuming they advance to that round), and play the West finalist in the finals...
  9. Great point. So long as coach Mueller continues to take one game at a time, HHS will continue to stay highly competitive in 4A, or whatever classification the KHSAA places them. But to crown them champs next year and beyond is silly IMO.
  10. Very accurate posting. IMO, next year's 4A will be much more competitive top to bottom than this year's current 5A.
  11. Holmes should take a lesson from Highlands' game plan this past weekend. They rushed 3 all night and as a result Pike was unable to get much space to run. Their game plan seemed to be keep Pike in the pocket and make him throw from there. His 2 impressive throws (one across the field for a nice gain and the TD pass) were when he was scrambling. If Holmes can keep Pike in the pocket and make him throw from there, they have a good chance. As for a prediction, Dixie's defense is improved from year's past IMO... Dixie 28 Holmes 21
  12. I'm looking forward to a great game at CC this week. Both teams have absolutely smoked their respective opponents. I hope the game lives up to the billing.
  13. Describing what someone observes from the stands is not bashing. I wish him well but hope his attitude doesn't hold him back.
  14. New Cath, SK, and Ryle are 2A, 2B, and 2C.
  15. I understand he helps some of the kids get to practice. Some of my Covington friends say he's the best thing to happen at Holmes in football for many years.
  16. Good news for Elliott that his jaw is not broken. He's the heart and soul of the Raiders. If he is out for any length of time it would be tough on Ryle
  17. With the JV and freshman games this week (JV 69-6 HHS, frosh 53-0, I think Towles has a lot more reinforcements to help him at Highlands than Pike will have at Dixie. The class of Towles sets him apart from the brashness of Pike. Both are quality players but one IMO has the temperment that coaches love.
  18. If you had asked me 3 weeks ago I'd have said Ryle by 2 scores. Now, with the way Ryle has played the last 2 weeks, I give the Neers a close victory, 22-20.
  19. With the exception of the St. X win, tne 2nd and 3rd stringers have gotten a lot of PT for the frosh this year. The Dixie game was 40-0 after 1 1/2 quarters. With all the hype from TOG and others, it looks like the 1st teams may play a lot in this game. Well see.
  20. 42-14 win in the first district game is important no doubt. So you have to say we are "happy." I think the defense and special teams were excellent. Daniel Gold did his best AC imitation with his catch and run for the long TD in the 2nd half. As far as Coach Mueller being happy, of course he's disappointed with the multiple penalties (probably >10) so there's still a lot to work on. I'm confident that the tape of the game will be used to make adjustments as always. With the bye week next Friday the Birds have 2 weeks until their next district game. Many teams may not play their absolute best game and lose... HHS has such great balance on both sides of the ball (as many posters have commented on many times) that they can have an off night by some and still win 42-14.
  21. Although I haven't counted them on the sideline, it seems there's around 40-45.
  22. From the postings in this thread I assume Fulton City is a district game for Mayfield?
  23. That why I think he'll play a position other than QB in college. Running over people is not something QBs should be in the habit of doing, especially those playing with very large DEs (those in college) chasing them down. As for the thread, I agree that we should let young Mr. Towles play his game and after his HS days are over we can compare him to other HHS QBs. For now, let's enjoy his excellent play and leadership skills.
