Can Highlands match what Beechwood did in the 90's?
horst muhlmann replied to Qryche11's topic in KY Football (High School)
Agree with you JB that 4A state wide is a more competitive class than 5A, with the likes of Boyle and Bell County. As for running the table this year, Dale will not allow them to look past any opponent which makes their chances of breaking BW's NKY win streak a good possibility. As for Gryche11's comment on the future prospects of HHS, the underclassman, including the current 9th grade class (and the 8th grade class for that matter) have a tremendous upside. For that reason, the sky's the limit in Ft. Thomas. -

Great win for CovCath's JV against a GCL South squad. Congrats. -

It would be great for N.Ky football to have CovCath competing at the state chamionship level. I think several BGP posters will think HHS will be looking to win 21 in 11. Maybe CC and HHS will be in different classes and both could bring back state titles in 2011. -
That was my thought too. If he's flying around on D and blocking PATs, I think he's got great upside on Defense.

With Pike's size & skills on D and special teams Pike seems like he's on is way to being a beast on the D line. I wonder as the season progresses and recruiters begin to see his skill set that he won't spend more time on D versus as the QB. Wasn't his father a defensive/special teams player for the Bills?

HHS did the right thing playing the 2nd group up 35... although allowing the starters to play the entire 1st half seems like it may have been the thing to do. #42 Vocke for BW is a tough runner
-
5 TDs and probably around 250 yards is working the D over pretty good. The 14 yard run weaving his way through multiple tacklers in the 1st half at 3rd and 10 showed his toughness.

As for the game, I think Simon Kenton gets their first win of the season 28-21 over Dixie. -

From the stats in today's paper Young Mr. Pike has already run 25 times in 2 games. That small sample size shows he will take off quickly if his receivers aren't open. -

Trinity 49 Highlands 42 (Scrimmage)
horst muhlmann replied to Birdsfan's topic in KY Football (High School)
As many BGP posters have said, HHS reloads every year. Having McCoy ready in the wings if needed is a good feeling for Birds' fans. From the looks of things and the likelihood of a few lopsided wins, he'll get plenty of work at the Varsity level this year. -
Manual/Trinity predictions

Having seen both schools play this year, albeit Trinity in a scrimmage, I tend to agree with LN. Trinity will likely take this one by 2-3 TDs. -

HHS 24 St X 19 Final Very closely contested game at DCM in Ft. Thomas. Great atmosphere for a freshman game. HHS had a 3 headed rushing attack with #43 Harris, #30 Wrobleski, and #21 Hayes. O Line was outstanding for the frosh birds. Hayes has electric speed running back the opening kickoff for a TD 90 yards to start the second half. Speedster #83 Allen seals the win for the birds with an INT with 2 seconds left. Future keeps getting brighter for the Birds.

HHS 46 Ryle 7 David Christian had 3 TD catches.

Could Any Coach Win at Highlands?
horst muhlmann replied to Jim Schue's topic in KY Football (High School)
I understand Dale teaches AP Physics or AP Calculus every other year. Having only observed him from afar, he reminds me of a cross between Bill Nye the science guy, a mad scientist who is always trying to create something better than the day before, and Vince Lombardi. He is incredibly bright and his record speaks for itself. Dale is a wonderful motivator and the kids love playing for him. Although other coaches would likely have a successful career at HHS, I am confident they would be hard pressed to duplicate his success. -

It's amazing that HHS gets criticized for not playing a tougher schedule when they continually play up in class every year and schedule much larger schools 6A on a regular basis... and I know they've played 1A Beechwood the last couple of years -

After NCC's big comeback vs. Dixie last week in the 2nd half I think the Tigers are salivating to get after it vs. the Red Colonels. Beechwood 28, Dixie 20. -

Hempel is certainly up there with the best QBs in N.Ky this year. Looking forward to seeing the young man play this year. -
Highlands vs Ryle: Take 2

Good points by all. I just think the margin of error is less for Ryle.... and tempers flaring make it doubly difficult. One more point that hasn't seemed to be made. Nichols departure for South Bend. That was the one area I thought Ryle could have exploited last year when Hempel threw to the big TE across the middle. HHS didn't do the best job in stopping Nichols. Does Ryle have anyone to replace their D 1 TE from last season?
